I’d rather stick with Flanders, Pou, Nas, Boxshall, Garcia etc.

I don’t think we need Neale we have Macrae to show the youngsters the way

If we are sitting top 4 with a gulf between us and the best sides you'd love to be able to throw him in. It could be the difference between winning a flag or not. Also takes a weapon off one of those sides.

His impact in last year's GF was extraordinary. I've never had him in that absolutely elite category because I didn't think he was a high impact player. He impacted massively last year. Even as a sounding board for others guiding them it would be handy.

I wouldn’t understand it. Currently 32, soon to be 33…his credentials are great and he is a champion of the game, but we need different types of players - explosive pace types ?
We also have a good young core we need to blood in the middle?

I mean. Swap Carroll for Neale in this weeks team.

I think it improves us.

That’s low hanging fruit.

Different positions and salary cap to consider..bringing him in what ever his salary is, risks pushing one of our kids out ?

We are going to have our work cut out retaining Wilson and the Viking.

Each to their own.

I just think we are past that.

We haven't even made a final yet but plenty of sides have got to a prelim and are 2% to 5% off the top tier of teams. Port got to that point and it's really hard to move forward without a pretty fortunate set of events.

Guys that have climbed the mountain before and are proven performers can make a huge difference. Collingwood would not have taken the Saints down without Ball coming in while we struggled to get players over other than B graders. Bridging that gap is different to long term planning.

We will know if we are in that conversation at round 23 I guess.

Yeah good point mate.

See where we are at by end of the year.

I just predict Pou, NAS, Flanders, Boxshall, Hall, Windhager can keep improving, along with Wilson hopefully going in there at stages.

Then trying to get a young Zac Bailey from
Brisbane to rotate between forward and midfield.

Gold Coast last night had players just rotating between forward and midfield. So many could run through there.

Of course. Mine was a very basic take. There is much to consider. But from a purely team strength perspective I think it's hard to argue.

I imagine it only really works if we plan to phase out Macrae or he drops off significantly. Which doesn't seem likely as is. Although he's on a pretty hefty contract for this year and next anyway I think.

Have heard if the suns go the whole way this year Ben king is all but coming home

When you look at our spend on contracts. We are paying 6 players a huge proportion of our cap:
  • NAS
  • King
  • Pou
  • TDK
  • Flanders
  • SOS
The rest of the squad take the remaining of the pie. If these 6 are performing then yes its a great decision, but if not it will affect us dramatically in the future.

This Neale chat is making me wonder, what are everyone's thoughts on the future prospects and ceilings of the kids we have in the midfield?

I think Hugo has looked really good with his leg drive and he was cleaner this week than last, and he's only 20. Also has a mongrel, speed and defensive ability that we need. Flanders looks good to me but I wonder if he isn't better suited to an outside role where he can be more of a conductor. Phillipou had a good first half last week but is tbd as a midfielder, not sure I see it. Boxshall the same. Travaglia, who knows?

Windhager and Hall are the ones who really excite me, I wanna see them with more midfield opportunity. Think both have potential to reach A-grade status, something seems to have clicked recently. I think in order of who I want to see in there the most, it would go:
1. Nas
2. Hall
3. Windy
4. Flanders
5. Garcia
6. Phillipou
7. Owens
8. Macrae
9. Travaglia
10. Boxshall

Neale just looking like another Hannebery type deal to me now.

We have bigger issues than an expensive mid seeking a new start to their career.

He turns 33 in May lol, it's crazy.

I don't believe there's a link at all, it was a throwaway line by Tom Morris as an example as to where he could be playing next year. Everyone thought it was either WA or Brisbane, when it's no longer the case.

Jack Macrae turns 32 in August, which is a surprise. Thought he would have been a year or two older than that

Unless Keeler has cemented himself as a solid forward option by the mid season draft I think our best bet is finding a big bodied full forward to actually provide a solid forward option that isnt as easily pushed off their line.

Keeler could be that for us, he just needs to put on another 20 kg.

He offers literally nothing else. I've never seen a more lazy player.

You think Pou is a big spend?

Morris was talking shit about him being on a million a year but it was almost certainly going to be a front paid contract that he has left details out of. He burnt bridges with people at the club and enjoys bending the truth about us whenever possible. Absolute slimeball of a human.

Not sure Collingwood has that big aura it has to have for players.

Looking at a steep cliff
How long have we been saying that about the Cats though?
