Apart from, pretty good start to the year

Garcia is still our most used mid at centre bounces. >80% again today. Did anyone think that's what we were going to do going into the season? Is anyone happy with that? Surely he's a depth mid at this stage of his career. Absolutely monstered at the clearances as well.

Can anyone try to make a case for TDK being worth 1.8mil a year over 8 years? I don't think we're any better off now than we were with Marshall as our starting ruck
Marshall is injury prone and I doubt we’ll get more than 2 more years out of him.

I wouldn’t write off TDK yet. He’s clearly a good ruck

Also, im sick of the amount of one-note players we have. Garcia, Phillipou and Windy dont really offer anything at all around the ground
Garcia - 20
Pou - 21
Windy - 22

Up against a Premiership hardened midfield of Neale (dual Brownlow medallist), Dunkley, Berry and 2 brothers that in all respects / should have been no 1 draft picks

I tried to tell that to everyone here and, for the most part, I got relentlessly shouted down by the troupe of fanboys frothing at the mouth because an A-Grader finally chose St Kilda.

Except as we've found out, he's not an A-Grader.

Far from it.

and to think we would also have Aleer on 800k if didn't run out of cap space.

Not TDKS fault he got 1.6, look at SOS.

Ro is slowing down. Not a great forward either besides providing height.
Not the player he was.
Dodson is not ready.
Tdk will have to be the man - needs to get some synchronicity with his mids. It will come.
Tauru needs to continue playing forward.
I don't think Ro is slowing down at all. He has only ever been effective as a starting ruck and right now he's at the peak of his powers. That's why he tried to leave, because we decided to make him a backup ruck/forward when he should be in the AA ruck conversation.

I’m usually all about keeping to the path and not overreacting too far either way… but I really want to see Higgins dropped.

The only time I’m confident he will kick a goal is in general play, his set shots and set shot snaps are diabolical.

He can’t kick it 50m… so why did he get up slowly whenever he marks in 45m out, act like he got hurt so he can take his time and give himself an excuse not to look for a pass… and then just drop it on the goal line or spray the snap.

So many times he will have a handball on running by or a short pass into the pocket/50m and he just refuses to do it.

Plus his defensive pressure is really off. Playing like Hollywood but doesn’t get the hands dirty.

He’s a star for us, but just like Dal and Milne back in the day, sometimes you need to be reminded that you have to do the team first stuff as well

just because Neale had 19 disposals doesnt mean Garcia had him on toast. Neale was the 2nd highest clearance player of the game with 8 clearances, our highest was 5...
He doesnt care about cheap touches, just the important ones. 8 clearances and 7 score involvements. "had him on toast"

And by the way, the right player to tag was will ashcroft....

Agree to disagree.
Young inexperienced kid takes on one of the most elite players in recent history and keeps him quiet for 75% of the game.
Take that every day
Hugo should’ve worn a G String.

Old mate Neale would’ve tripped over his jocks.

Does anyone know the stats on our disposal efficiency from hand passes? It must be insanely low, that was the difference between the two teams in my opinion

Not going anywhere by playing half a game of football, then looking out of condition by the last quarter while being run off our feet by Collingwood, Melbourne, GWS and now Bris who all looked full of run late in the last quarters. There's a few issues the club is going to need to nail both on and off the field. I have no more confidence with Lyon as coach as I did with Ratts and Richo, though Ratts was better than Richo.

Yeah it shows the coaching groups lack of ability to change game plan. Yes, Neale didn’t have 40 disposals, but we got absolutely killed in the middle and at clearance. Our midfield is a huge worry, Pou and Garcia in particular just looked so outmatched by all of Brissys guns.

I couldn’t believe we passed on Murphy Reid at the time for Travaglia when we desperately needed a midfielder and it’s hurting us now.

After years of investment in the draft, millions in free agents and being super aggressive in trade we are……… bang average lol.

Just had to win that Melbourne game. If we come somehow be 2 and 4 post SA trip we can maybe push for wildcard in the back of the year.

Love Tauru forward, guy could be a star.

Half a game is disingenuous, we were with them for 3.5 quarters.

Yep. It's not clicking yet.

Watching Tauru as forward, he actually looks to lead into space and if we put it up in front of him he’d have a great chance to run and jump at the ball. Unfortunately we consistently kick it to useless spots dense with opposition players.

Give it til round 8-10

If this is still happening it starts to become a concern.

But I think we’re just still slightly off in a few areas. Tidy up some of those skills and decision making in tight, lower the eyes a bit more going forward and we’ll be fine.

completely agree, it's pretty clear they're still learning the gameplan and how to play with each other - at the moment there's 6+ guys in the side each week who basically didn't play with the group last year. chemistry takes time, especially when your core is as young as ours.

We would have beaten most teams today, but we simply don’t currently have the midfield to compete in there with the stacked ones like Brisbane (lost clearances 28-42), as Pou hasn’t stepped up as hoped, Flanders hasn’t returned to the heights he reached in there in 2024 (when he received 12 Brownlow votes from his last 12 games), Windy is needed across HB, and with Macrae currently out.

So we’re simply going to lose more than we win against these teams who are stacked in there.

love Ro but he's basically never been in the AA ruck conversation, only in the squad once

A sound 3/4 effort, but we are not going to beat good teams with our consistently poor conversion rates.

We have to work really hard to cover teams as skilled as Brisbane and when we dont get rewards in front of goals you dont put on score board pressure.

This other issue for me is our blokes are still giving dinky little hand balls to stationary team mates under pressure. Its so blatanly obvious we are just inviting more pressure and turn overs.

Its like in close we are panicking and just handing the heat to a team mate. We need to learn to move, get our arms up and make the tackler commit to you and then give off - but use your vision and go longer to outside spares.

We had as much of the ball as them but simply didn't use it well enough. Then when you don't kill off teams the pressure comes and again we lost our dare when it mattered.

It would have been a great win, but the result is about where we sit at present. Until we can sort out a straight kicking forward line we will not be playing finals.
