If Hayden Young was playing Worner’s role we would be a much better team.
Can’t say I disagree entirely but Young in the midfield is a thing of beauty when hes firing and he is the best forward 50 entry we have , plus he adds some much needed size .

The positive spin on this is that we have multiple weapons to throw in there and that’s what the best sides need

It’s more that we cannot have both him, Worner and McVee in the same team.

Worner is the worst of those 3, so get rid.
💯

Worner out, Walker in.

Young is great wherever he plays. The question is what is the bigger net gain?

Young off half back and Brayshaw and. Bolton/Reid playing Young’s midfield role? Or Young in the mids, Brayshaw reduced to a tagging role and Worner in the half back role.

I’d argue Young at Half back improves the team more than Young in the midfield or Young in the forward line, as our weakest ball users (with the exception of Clark) are in the back half.

I'm just gonna put it bluntly: I don't think we have a midfield to win a flag without Young

I do if Bolton and Reid play more mid time.
Both freaks. Both small. We need bulk in there otherwise we just get bullied when the pressure is on. Youngs size combined with his skills is a big point of difference in there. I'd even argue Bolton doesn't get off the chain last night without Young playing at a decent level.

Size is wildly important in the modern clearance game. You can't have a midfield of Serong, Bolton and Reid: Jackson would have to have an 80% tap to advantage rate in big finals for us to win enough of the ball in big moments. It's why the rotation is very important as it changes things up and creates mismatches and disrupts opposition midfields.

That’s where Johnson and Ras come in, adding some size into the mids.

I still maintain Young alongside Clark at half back would be one of the most damaging one/two punches in the league, and our ball movement being created in their hands plays into the speed on the ball style that is winning games of footy right now.

Young can certainly still shift through the mids when needed, but my word the idea of those two having the ball in their hands more really does excite me.

Fair. It's a good thought but we'll have to agree to disagree here as I just don't see it. Happy to be wrong but I think our half back skill and drive needs to come from elsewhere.

If that’s the case then I think they need to take a punt on Simpson then. He could be the one that adds that drive off half back if you’re absolutely set on Young being a full time mid.
