I haven't seen a lot of Gardiner obviously, and I was wondering what he was like.

Played a couple of very decent games with you guys at the start of the year (at least according to the stats!)

Do you think he has a future, either as a lead-up half-forward flanker or a taller midfielder?

I saw he came second in the VFL B&F for Geelong.

He's much maligned on this board so you probably won't get much of a sense here.

My view is that he's never going to be a world beater but he should give you guys reasonable service as a lead-up half forward. His strengths are his lead-up work and he is reasonably mobile for his height. His weakness is definitely his kicking. He will waste a fair bit of the ball he gets.

He simply wasn't going to get any game time with us so there was no point us keeping him or him sticking around.

His excatlly right, Well i would of like him here still at the Cattery but you just cant keep them all, cos you got other younger players coming, e.g TOMMAHAWK. Look his got a bit of talent, you can play he him as a flanker CHF position, He was getting alot of goals towards the end of the VFL.At the end of the season i was hopping he got another chance playing, but he just didnt, I think he will do well at the Saints.

He's. ;) Short for 'he is'.

Hes similar to the way Hamill played for St Kilda, in the sense that he was the leading HFF for the team when he played; he did spend quite a fair amount of time in the guts for the VFL team, played quite well there; able to score goals still playing as a centre/ ruck rover.

Kicking and over head marking (uncontested) have seriously let him down.

Can take a good contested mark though.

Gardiner is a good pickup for the Saints. Pick 90 Geez, depth for Casey at worst. If injuries hit, stick him on a flank he can play the lead up role pretty well. Don't keep him to close to goals.

I'm only kidding. The Gardiner story has been said a million times over, and I felt like looking at things from a different angle.

He's maligned on this board for a reason. He has terrible decision making skills and poor execution, and it's difficult to survive at AFL level with those deficiencies in your game. He may be a good mark and mobile, but there is no point in him getting the ball at all if he is just going to turn it over. If the Saints can get the best out of him then good on them, and I think people that have been frustrated by him in the past still wish him all the best at his new club and hope he blossoms into a handy player.

I think he has a future as the designated player who falls over. Can play it to a tee.

When someone use 'his' mistakenly, instead of 'he's'... and commits the error twice in the one post, it deserves to be highlighted and corrected.

He's maligned on this board because it is in footy culture - especially Geelong's - to have a player that gets bagged mercilessly.

I'm not saying he doesn't have his flaws. He certainly does.

But are they exaggerated and given more attention than his upside? Most definitely.

Why is there all this talk that Charlie is a strong mark? The bloke spills his marks with alarming regularity and when he doesn't it's usually because he's panicked and fallen over due to perceived pressure. Extremely soft player. Occasionally he'll do one impressive thing, like gather the ball with one hand or turn out of traffic, but then he'll stuff up the simple thing of kicking the ball to a teammate.

Can't kick and sure as shit can't mark. No loss at all for Geelong. Good luck to him but I'll be shocked if he plays more than 10 games for St.Kilda next year. Then again, for pick 90 he might be worth a roll of the dice.

He is one of those players who are great at VFL level (like Playfair), but can't make the step up.

Watching a bit of the two's this year, mainly towards the end of the season, I actually think Charlie improved a fair bit this year. The likes of Playfair and Callan while playing good games always had those moments within games where you would just cringe and realise they are just not going to be able to step up to AFL footy. Charlie was like this but I thought his last two months were very good and deserved a shot ahead of N.Ablett at one stage. He started throwing his weight around, taking strong contested grabs in the forward line and even his disposal and kicking for goal was pretty good towards the end.

Realistically though he is not a long term kp proposition so he was basically competing with Chapman and S. Johnson for a position on a flank so it was goodbye and good luck.

Mr Sensitive may not be very sensitive here but I think that what he has said here is how I also would sum up Charlie. I do not think that Charlie can play CHF in an AFL side. I doubt that he could play in any KP places but may survive possibly on a back or forward flank.
