I was wondering if this kid could be groomed to play defense. He has a good turn of speed and obviously a great leap. The reason for this suggestion is at 197cm with speed and great leap it seems these are qualities often required by Full Backs.

"Developing ruckman with terrific athletic ability. Basketball background with limited football experience. SA U18 representative in 2005. Super impressive when tested with 99cm running vertical jump and 2.95sec for 20m being outstanding result for a ruckman. From Blackfriars FC."

They can't all ruck at the same time, so is it possible to groom him in a key defensive post. At the same time, he could be a good back up Ruck if injury strikes. Comments?

Re: Luke McEntee

His brother, James, was a very good full forward for North Adelaide reserves. Left at the end of last season probably due to limited opportunities at senior level.

Have often thought the same myself. Has a bit of mungrel in him too from what i've seen. Hopefully he will be elevated onto senior list and we can try him down back and as another ruck option.

He looks good. Needs to put on weight over pre-season to push for selection in '08, too risky to throw him in the backline for the seniors with that light frame. Just ask Thurgood.

As a ruckman, Bailey (bar post-op niggles) with his ready made body will be placed well in front of him.

I hope he does. We need another tall, strong defender. The only tall defender we have is Croady. And Browny is probably the toughest one.

More more likely to be a ruckman-cum-forward than a ruckman-cum-backman. His kicking for goal is decent and his marking is okay. I don't think he has the capacity to be a defender.

Todd Viney's assessment to RustyHawk and me earlier this year was he is a ruckman with the best tap/palm at the club. TV did not see him being turned into a KPP. We asked him that very question. He was quite affirmitive in his answer. He is a tad short for a ruckman at 197cms but he has a Jeff White type of leap. Jumps so much higher than any other tall at the club it is not funny, and from only a couple of paces.

Absolutely correct N24. Just a matter of continuing development of his football brain and skills. He will take another few years, but plenty of natural athletic talent to work with there.

ok thanks for info number 24. Do you have a shoe phone like number 86?

Hahahaha. McEntee looks funny. My little sister was scared of him but now she loves him..lol.
He can play defense...we better try him out.

Best player in the 2005 draft according to Colin Wiseby!

Ok, so he's a bit of a joke sometimes, but i like what i heard about him from BH and considering last year we thought we had 1 decent ruckman only, now we have that plus 4 others that could be regular senior ruckmen in the future.

I think you'll find Wisby had Hurn at Number 1 in that draft, so presumably he thought Hurn was the best in the draft. He did rate McEntee highly - either 2 or 3 from memory.

McEntee isn't a defender by the way, his strength is his leap and his palming. Probably, could play in the hole though to cut off the leading forward and combine that with his rucking, in much the same way that Campbell has been doing.

LOL. Nah, but RustyHawk and I go along to training and we are able to speak with the players and the coaches from time to time.

If you pick your moment and do it casually, usually TV, DH and Frawley will stop and have a word with us. Earlier this year I said to TV " I hope Beau Dowled makes it this year but he still loos a bit tentative, has he fully recovered." Todd stopped and had a chat about where they saw this immediate progress and what they expected in 2007 from him.

McEntee was working with the Big Russian just in front of where we were talking and so I asked if Luke could develop into a KPP and I have told you the outcome.

Rusty and I don;t press the point too hard or try and "grill" whoever we talk to. Seems to work well to take a low key approach and the fact we, esp Rusty, are there often lets the players and coaches know we are genuine supporters and not just freeloaders.

We will be there over the summer and will report as and when.

i cant believe what i am hearing did anyone see him play for box hill, yes he is quick but got pushed off the ball far too easy. not big enough to be a afl ruckman, he got beaten in vfl level.

i cant imagine him being in our next premiership team!

I hope he will prove me wrong.

He started the year at 89 Kgs, so he still has some weight to put on. Plus rucks take a bit long to develop and learn the game like Key Position players so I wouldnt rub him out just yet. And he mustve done something right to get senior listed with out playing an AFL game (coming in for some one on the long term injury list).
