iv watched a few vids latley from his first year and hes got great tallent, pace and a hige leap. should we be playing him in the middle rather than flanks?

I'd like to see him being played in the midfield. Imo he should be the one we're all talking about at the moment, but due to his average disposal by foot and inconsistency, he hasn't exactly set the world on fire.

Most common quote from people who just quote what others say.

Walker in his first year had some issues which were addressed over the subsequent seasons.

His disposal issues have been ironed out but peoples inability to move on has not.

He has been used as a tagger and stopper since there was no one else in the team even mildly capable of doing this.

He has played on the best player in the opposition team every week for two years from Andrew Mcloud, Goodes, etc.

He is without doubt the most uderated player in the carlton Guernsey and one of the most underated in the league, Is constantly bagged and yet when you actually judge him on his merits rather than preconsepctions he is one of teh best 21 year olds in the game.

Given the opportunity he will be in the top five for our club, if not top 3.

Wrong, completely wrong. Saying that is just naive.

I have watched him myself in fact, and from the 22 games i've seen this year, he still has disposal issues that need to be addressed. He is not consistent - some game's he goes walk abouts.

I'm not saying i don't like him - he is a good solid player. However there are aspects of the game he needs to work on.

People just don't say it because others do. They say is because it's true.

At the moment he is not considered one of our best, and thus to do so must improve his game. I have no doubts that he can, but to say he doesn't lack certain aspects to his game at this point in time is incorrect.

Walker is has all the makings for a high possession getter, but if we gave him a fair go in the midfield, those possession, as the past couple of years has show, would probably be in-effective. I have no personal problem with Walker, but until he is able to hit a target consistantly, I think he is going to continue being the underated, hidden star that he is. I mean, the Kangaroos game in Round 21...

I'm as big a fan as any - and his disposal/decision making was at a high mid-season when he was playing with confidence. Unfortunately, on returning from injury both these dropped - whether due to confidence or shoulder issues who knows.

Personally, I like him in a back pocket / HBF when the match up is right - such as his game on Robbo in 06 where he not only smashed Robertson but also hurt the opposition with his rebound from defense. Defense rotating through the midfield, and probably spend more time in the middle as he grows more comfortable in the position.

He is a terribly frustrating player to watch ...he has great pace and the leap of a gazelle ..but his disposal is still not up to AFL standard ...he has improved slightly in this area but still needs lots and lots of work .

There you have it folks. The bandwagon at full tilt.

You have guys like simpson being lauded all over the park, he can only kick on one foot.

Walker runs faster and harder than any player in our team, he has the evasive skill of judd at times, can snap goals, hits players on the chest bursting from the center, weaving out of the back line, etc. He misses one or two a game bacause fat bastards like lance can't jump and take the dive and its all over for walker. Why, because thats what people look for, that is what he is known for. He has the reputation and any thing which is not centimeter perfect is immediately a glaring example of walkers "not up to afl standard" football. Yet other players are running around like muppets without a tag playing the receivers game. Heres walker taking out Andrew McCloud and being told he is not up to AFL standard. Whitnall was accused of single handedly tanking, tell me this guy is not up to AFL standard.

Total joke.

I think thats a bit of an overstatement. There are plenty worse kicks in the AFL then him.

It was actually extremely good before his injury but he still needs to improve.

has the makings of a judd type player, and with time will be a key to our success.. exciting to watch... one of my favs right now... love the kid

We need to use him in the same way Adelaide use Andrew Mcleod where he can be totally damaging with his run off half back.

Audas I think you are wrong for criticising people suggesting his disposal isn't great. I personally don't think it is bad but he is prone to making the odd terrible kick or decision that will cost us one or two times a game. His disposal has improved every year however and it won't be long before it is no longer an issue for him. He will be an elite player in the competition within a couple years time, such a gun!

People are claiming that he is not up to afl standard. Im saying thats just ridiculous, and stand by it. It is a ridiculous comment.

Previously my arguments are that this is an area that was highlighted early on in his career and is now constantly singled out for condemnation. People come on here saying the most outrageous comments with out actually considering the reality of the situation. Walker occasionaly makes a stuff up, yes, but if this guy was in another body and played exactly how he does now people would be wowing. It is a perception that refuses to go away rather than the basis of reality.

As I have said, Simpson can not even manage a kick on his wrong side and I have NEVER heard anyone criticize him like walker cops.

Walker is super fast, tough, committed, agile, fantastic leap, strong and highly, very highly talented player who is totally maligned by his own supporters because they believe their own tripe.

Further, Walker will be playing at 21 next season, turning 22. Almost every week he gets given the toughest assignment on the ground and does it brilliantly only to be labelled he goes missing....good...that means Andrew McCLoud or Goodes is being taken out be A Walker.

How can it be that people trash this kid when these are the assignment given to him with confidence. How can it be that he is not up to AFL standard ?

If people want to say that occassionaly walker has a bad disposal but on the whole he is an excellent contributor who is fundamental to our team then fine. But they don't. They bag him cause he used to have poor disposal, which has improved by MILES and cant get over it. People go on about round 21, did anyone see lance ?

Watch this and come back and tell me he is not up to AFL. Remember two things while watching this, first, he has been playing a tagging, run-with, negating type role for three years as he "learned the game" under Pagan. He has not been given the opportunity to go into an attacking, mid field role capacity where he can showcase his natural game. Also remember he is 21. Again so you don't forget this, 21.

21....

watch it...

Whatch it

Mate I agree he is a star, the footage of his debut game is awesome.

The interview at the end is priceless too. :D

Thanks, I am not saying there still aren't some nagging issues with the guy, but the constant bagging, to the point of actually being written of by some just has no bearing on reality.

To watch that video and then be told he is not up to AFL standard and be called an idiot for thinking otherwise just winds me up.

His decision making and disposal still leads a lot to be desired.

For those that think I'm jumping on the bandwagon etc, check round 21 vs Kangaroos. He racked up 30 possessions about 10 of those were dead set straight to the opposition and he gave away like 4-5 free kicks.

Then he can play games such as the port game in round 11? Where he dominated with such drive through the centre.

IMO his confidence has been shot, and Walker will be the benefit more from the inclusions of Judd and Stevens than Murphy will.

He has all the makings to be a gun player just has to (just like Waite, Simpson, Carrazzo, and Betts) bridge the gap between his best efforts and his worst.

08 will be a big year, I'm confident he will turn it on lets just hope so

Damaging as in costing us a goal every time he turns it over?

Might have only kicked 24 goals in his career, but he has put through some absolute rippers. :thumbsu:
