Re: Murray Football League

Nathan Parker, has been there a couple of years think he went there when Kennedy first arrived.

Don't think it was a wise move by Mul. Pressure maybe to much for Parker, should have tried to get a non playing coach with experiance to help them get over the line instead of falling just short again. may have also held on to some of the players.

Surely he couldn't have pissed that many quality players off and still got the job??? It's gotta have something to do with money doesn't it?? (please feel free to speculate, i have.:):))

Personally, I have my doubts if Parker would have the insight and presence to be a good coach. He has played as a loose man in defence in recent years and if u do that week in week out players will soon see through that! Hopefully I'm wrong but I can't see him being the answer nor as good a footy brain as Kennedy

As posted before Lamberti i think is retiring, Kennedy is linked with Tungamah but is leaving Mul to devote more time to business interests.

don't know about money. the main ones that were paid bigger dollars were Stevens (now gone to Benalla with his brother) Lee James ( returning to old club i think) and Cowman i think.

Don't know why Lucas (who has played at yarra mul and cobram), Banch (played at yarra and mul), Ben james ( is he lee's brother maybe he's going home as well) are leaving could be money or could be the success factor as well.

Personally i'm not involved with the club but have spoke to a couple of yarra people and they reckon it wasn't a smart move appointing Parker due to lack of coaching experience.

I RECKON YOU WILL FIND MORE WILL LEAVE IF HE IS COACHING AS HE IS AN ''I AM MAN'' JUST ASK HIM AND HE WILL TELL YOU. IF HE HAS BEEN PLAYING LOOSE HE WILL DO AGAIN AS IT MIGHT GET A BIT TOUGH FOR HIM

Re: Murray Football League

I would think the coach may struggle without these players and the discipline issues that have sometimes held the club back will need to be rectified-both Mulwala and echuca United appear to have lost a group of quality players

Even though the eagles have lost some good players i would expect them to announce some big signing's before the start of next season. Majority of the players leaving would of been paid i imagine so this will free up money to pay other 1's. And with Coach Heuston having played for Box Hill, VCFL Rep sides he should have a number of quality contacts.

As for Mul perhaps its there time to have a spell down towards the bootom of the ladder. Any news on who's coaching Rumba and Finley??

Rumours scotched

Goulburn Valley legend Chris Kennedy has denied rumours that he'll be playing for Picola District Football League club Tungamah next season.
Kennedy, who retired in September after four seasons coaching Mulwala, said he had heard the whispers, but wasn't keen to pull the boots back on at this stage.
"I know how these stories come about, I'm married to Rob's (Wren) sister Katrina, and she's going back to play netball there next year," Kennedy said.
"But at this stage I've got no intention of going around again, but I'll probably be there watching the netball."
Wren has taken the reins at Jubilee Park for a second stint as coach, replacing David Putamorsi who has moved to Euroa.
Kennedy led the Lions to four preliminary finals in a row and won five best and fairests with Goulburn Valley club Shepparton United, and if the 34-year-old did take the field for the Bears, it would be a massive coup for the club and the league.
But Kennedy said that was unlikely, despite his brother-in-law pumping up the Bears' tyres.
"I speak to Rob a bit, and he keeps telling me they're going all right," Kennedy said.
"I wouldn't rule it out completely, but at this stage I'm enjoying retirement.
"They body is feeling pretty good and I wouldn't be surprised if come January or February, I might get itchy feet to start playing again.
"But I'm too busy with work and other commitments at the moment to even think about it."

Magpies feather nest

By Richard Goodbody

Moama's premiership stocks continue to soar through the acquisition of former Lancaster star Tom Roberts and Robinvale assistant coach John Harley.
Roberts, who has spent the past few years playing for Aldinga in the South Australianbased Southern Football League, has returned to the Goulburn Murray and will slot nicely into the Magpies' line-up.
Harley, who is a damaging on-baller, will reunite with senior coach Shannon Keam, who led Robinvale last year.
"We've managed to sign up three and we've got another five or so on the go," Moama general manager Rod Toll said.
"Tom's a centre halfback, who's pretty big and is a good player by all reports . . . and John is an in-and-under onballer.
"He's pretty hard at it, so that will be good."
Earlier this week, the Magpies kicked off their pre-season campaign under Keam as they attempt to re-establish themselves as a finals contender.
During the past four years, the Magpies have won just 16 of 64 games and boast a winning percentage of 25.
But with Keam at the helm, they are hoping to reverse their form as they chase an elusive Murray Football League premiership.
"We had 28 at training the other night, which was good," Toll said.
"We've got a couple of exciting players in the pipeline, so hopefully we've got a few more announcements very shortly."
Moama will kick off next season against Finley on April 5

I very much doubt if a premiership is on the horizon! They were a long way off the mark last year and Barooga and Nathalia seem to be getting stronger. I wuld imagine a total of 6-8 wins would be a good result

I agree with you to go from 2 wins this year to a premiership the next would be almost impossible, think they should aim for just outside the finals next year then build for finals the year after.

We also need to take into account that teams such as Toc, Tongala and Rumbalara will also be strengthened so there will be no easy games for any team next year

Just posted on the Picola Thread

Rob Resuggan returning to the Picola League... Looks likely he'll play for Mathoura

Might be nearly past his prime though and I wonder why he would'nt return to Deni Rovers as he is a past captain. He signed with Coolamon a few years ago but played one game and returnd to Deni. I thnk Deni may cover him if they get all their locals back.

don't think toc will be that much stronger, think downie is leaving and a few others as well, even if they get warnett from finley and mellington i don't think they'll be much better than this year.

Maybe he got along ok with Chris Mitsch the new coach of Mathoura and he may have lured him out there. who is a stronger club Deni Rovers or the Timbercutters

5.Trent Kreeck (tungamah)
6.Mick James (W.A)
7.Ben James (Melbourne)
8. Lee James(melbourne)
9.Rob Lamberti(Retired)
10.Jason Sanderson(billabong crows)
11.Slattery (melbourne)
12.Isac Orr(melbourne)
13.Scott Sanderson(billabong crows)
14.jake cowman(shepp united)
15.Justin Mcabe(year off Knee is shot)
16.and there is a couple more fringe players tempted to go out bush with sanderson . the melbourne bloke are travellers. this is all pretty close but i could be wrong lot of players there its only what i heard

If Downie can kick 70 goals in the side Toc has this season Mellington will kick 90+ with the side Toc is putting together next year. Cramp is back along with a couple of his mates that are going to travel. Throw is the signings from the Shepp Bears as well and they have already improved.

Who are the Shepp Bears signings??? Are they quality players or are they just fringe senior players

I maybe forgetting a few but out of the G.V recently the only ones who have had an impact on the Leauge would be Byers, Brunt when he played at Congupna. Wellington, Kennedy and Cowman to a extent,

There are a lot of players that the Shepp News pump up saying a massive signing for this team and how they'll dominate but when it comes to game day they are just the same they don't tear apart the leauge

For instance with the huge wraps that liddell and Harrop came with i don't think they delivered to what they were portrayed as. i think Harrop played well in the finals he kick 6 v Cong 5 v Echuca 6 v Mul and then 3 v Nath
during the year tho he kicked his big bags against the lower sides and got an average of 2 - 4 against the top six sides. Liddell kicked a bag of 7 against toc but other than that averaged about 1 - 3 a game.

I spose the point i'm trying to make is just because they have come from the G.V doesn't automatically make them a star or someone who will tear the MFL apart.

Re: Murray Football League

Just a few things i've heard on the grapevine in this wonderful silly season.

Mellington to sign with Barooga not Toc as people think

A couple of Barooga seniors players seen with Ex St Kilda Player Aussie Jones, could he be a potential player or is he friends with the players.

This is my favorite so far possibly no truth to it but maybe the tron burger can help. Mulwala look set to lose 30+ from their list this season, surely 30 odd people can't be leaving due to money. Maybe not the best decision by the Mul board.

As said at the top it is the silly season so this could just be all bull

Who has said that the players recruited are going to tear the MFL apart? I cant say that i have seen it posted or heard anyone saying it as yet. All the talk is there will be improvements. I think that Haz done job at Barooga dont forget he did his shoulder and should have missed more games with that then he did. Liddell well no one likes the bloke, not even ppl at the club he plays for. I remember being at a 21st in Barooga earlier this year and a couple of his team mates were going to knock his head off. Says alot about a bloke if your own team doesnt like you in my opinion.

Barooga have thrown an extra couple of hundred at Mellington then Toc has from the reports im getting.

I have also heard that Mul will be losing a few, not sure if it will be 30+ though. i heard 15 are leaving, you would think if they lost 30 players the wouldnt be able to get a reserves side together. Thats a huge turn over.
