There is not a big gulf between the amount of A grade KPF's taken before 20 and the amount taken after 20. The numbers are pretty close. They are just very rare, and there are a number of them taken very early who have completely flopped. Its not a guarantee that an early tall will become A grade, its almost 50/50.

Amen.

I'm feeling pretty confident about Wilson, Kennedy, Schofield and Brown.

Midfielders are safer bets and if we have excess then we trade then out for needed player or use those picks on a needed player.

I agree. thats why i reckon you should almost never use a top 5 pick on a tall. much much safer using it on a mid and then later first rounders on talls. Besides the game is also won and lost in the midfield.

Whilst i see your point, Jack Watts, Nick Naitanui and Michael Hurley, all top 5 talls in the 08 draft. I'd kill for any of the three.

How do Smith and Atley compare? Atley sounds like more of a line breaker so i'm inclined to prefer him, but what's the basis for preferring Smith?

hmmm. smith plays more like judd and atley more like say a cotchin? dunno how to describe smiths better at breaking through clearances but i reckon atley will break more lines and lay more tackles. Atley will play on a wing wheras i reckon smith will play on ball.

Thanks. Reckon we need a good winger more than a good on-baller at the moment, but then class in either area wouldn't go astray.

Skilful and talented genuine small forward in the Eddie Betts mould. Great goal sense, clean hands and has been impressive at senior level this year.

Sounds perfect

Is there a Stephen Hill clone in the draft who will slide to Pick 4?

That's who we need.

Bennells the closest. Bennell reads the play far better than hill though. Bennell wont slide. Our gettable stephen hill type clone was jetta last year. But we chose sheppard. I say we just put sheppard on the wing next year he's a reasonably similiar player to hill but will be far more consistant and not as deadly.

i guess in some ways andreolli and atley aswell. Atley has an inside game though and loves to tackle.

I don't agree. I would contend that there are more high quality key forwards taken between 1-20 than those taken in the rest of the ND, PSD and Rookie drafts combined.
Pavlich, Riewoldt x2, Roughead, Franklin. J.Brown would have been if he wasn't a father-son pick.
Who else is there? Fevola?

Quality key forwards are a rarity, and for that fact they go high in drafts.
A bigger risk, but a big reward. Ask Richmond if they regret not taking such a risk.
I'm not saying we should just go out an draft any key forward with our first pick, as i'm not sure there is one worth such a high pick (other than Day), i'm just criticising the view that good key forwards can just be easily manifested with late picks.
