The VFL Tigers will be without captain Sam Darley this Saturday, as they battle Essendon at Punt Road Oval for the annual Sir Doug Nicholls Cup.

Darley, 24, has been handed the honour of captaining the VFL side for this Saturday's state game against West Australian Football League at North Port Oval.

It marks his second state league call-up since joining Richmond VFL at the beginning of 2016.

While Darley's absence will be noted in the VFL Tigers defence, the side gains Tiger tall Ivan Soldo and hard-running midfielder Anthony Miles who return from AFL duties.

The VFL Tigers were dealt a 55-point loss at the hands of Williamstown last weekend, but will set out to turn their form around against the seventh-ranked Bombers on Saturday.

Saturday's game kicks off at 4pm and Gates open at 3:30pm. A pre-game ceremony, including a War Cry begins at approximately 3:48pm. Entry is free for Richmond members. Food and drink will be available to purchase.
