The future of the ABC - Guthrie sacked

finaly a leftie that has some common sense!

The network will then be responsible for coming up & finding their own finds to push their utopian agenda

By privatising the ABC, you will be increasing competitive pressure on the commercial media networks for the declining advertising revenues, the ABC like all media outlets has its pet topics, despite that, the ABC's core audience is largely Liberal/National Party voters particularly in rural and regional Australia.

Sure there are people within the Liberal Party that have been having wet dreams for years about selling off or closing down the ABC, however lets remember their recent record of being in touch with "average Aussies", before the survey result, only Fitzroy types want it and the yes vote supporters should stop shoving it down everyone's throat, only for 95/150 federal seats including many safe Liberal seats returned 60+ yes votes. Then we had the laughable 2014 federal budget, an absolute political wet dream for this same faction of the Liberal Party, basically that didn't go down well either. The IPA/Murdoch faction has basically lost every public debate they have engaged in.

Sure....But in today's political landscape $$$$ speaks louder than all else.

We all know what this is about....The attempt to eradicate the one last voice of moral opposition & check against these guys assault on both our landscape, our rights & our interests as a Democratic society.....The A.B.C represents the final bastion of a public democratic institution & the last remnant of an independent voice of the Fourth Estate.....The institution charged as the moral check & whistle-blowers on powerful government bodies & private industry alike.....We alone are the moral check on these arse-holes & they KNOW it.....Hence their manic & protracted campaign to destroy that last check upon them & their corruption.

These mother-*ers need stopping in their tracks right here & now.....This piece of s**t, no account Turdbull, uses his vanilla essence as a disguise for his real motivation.....To destroy Democratic institutions & moral checks upon government & business in this country.....They use both Abbott & Pauline as distractions for their real motives.

Killing The ABC: The IPA’s Agenda To Dismantle Australia

that is all they stand for: their own interests and those of their wealthy backers, to the exclusion of the rest of us.

This is fascism, the merging of government and corporate power.

In August 2012, the far right “think” tank The Institute For Public Affairs (IPA) published a wish-list of 75 suggestions for restructuring Australia’s system of governance.

If you have the time, please read this article, despite the repugnant Weasel-speak in which it is written, because it truly exposes the hypocrisy of the IPA and its agenda – one in which Medicare (ie. public health)is described as a “radical policy” and our “generous welfare safety net” (social security) as “unsustainable into the future”.

Item numbers 50 and 51 on this list were:
Break up the ABC and put out to tender each individual function
Privatise SBS

I think this act of right wing ratbaggery has just gifted the election to Labor.

Pretty sure you're either ignoring the fact that they voted not to do anything to the regional arm or you are unaware about that.

They can’t implement it and they won’t, let alone just privitize the ideologically unsound bits.

Hilariously they will have to defend this policy.

I am fully aware that the carried motion separated rural ABC from the rest of the ABC, and while it may be possible to ring fence regional radio stations, landline and other rural based programing but many ABC viewers don't just limit themselves to country programming, also many rural and regional people are skeptical about anything to do with privatisation.

The coalition would need to get the policy detail right because just saying we are excluding rural programing might not be as simple or cost effective as maintaining the ABC as it currently is.

In effect is the government saying that it will pay whoever buys the ABC a fee to maintain certain services or would they be thinking that it would operate under a different business structure to the spun off parts of the ABC?

Hahaha. Really? Liberal Members aren't very good at understanding business, are they? If they had any clue they would've said, 'privatise, but the government should subsidise regional journalism.'

Because there is no "regional arm" of the ABC. There is a "regional and local" manager, but that is primarily an upper management thing. The guy who does that used to be the head of radio, and "regional and local" still is focused foremost on radio. So if they voted to exclude the "regional arm", they are either a bit daft or are playing politics (hint: it's a bit of both, but mostly they're playing politics and aiming it at people who know no better).

Spoken like a true leftie!
The joint needs a total clean out!

I don't get the so called bias, the Liberals have been banging on about so called leftie bias since the early 1990s when there was a clear love in between the ABC and the Keating government. However today all the Liberals seem to be doing is calling everything they disagree with as leftie, it has become a bad habit that the Liberals need to break themselves out of. Surely the gay marriage survey result should have told conservatives that having alternative views or discussing social issues was not just lefties.
