1. Don’t forget it’s a combination of how good stocker is with how good the player at Adelaide pick is compared to the early 2019 Carlton pick.

Nah.

The only question is if the pick is high enough to trade for the contracted player we target (or how much has to be added to get it done).

IMO the chances of us holding and using our 2019 first pick are close to zero. No matter what the number. And if we had entered the trade period with, say, a top 4 pick it would either go direct in a trade or have to be split into smaller chunks in a secondary deal and possibly leave us something left over.

The true outcome is now in the hands of the players. They have to give enough cheek on the field to convince quality trade targets that they are getting into something exciting, not just getting a pay rise in return for putting up with misery on field.

I think your kidding, Stocker is the main ingredient in the trade by a mile, i dont care if they take Adelaides pick to the draft or trade table.

Will Stocker be > than the difference between a player that could have been got in 2019 draft / trade and the player we do get is the equation for anyone interested in simple algebra. If we want to complicate it with more reality you add time as a necessary dimension which brings some assumptions along with some calculus and probability into the equation.

There's a distinct lack of alcohol in your methodology.

Try harder.

I sit admonished and will surreptitiously close my copy of Mathematica down delete my half composed set of algorithms I was going to post for S**** and giggles and retreat gracefully back into a summer slumber ignoring the fact that this pre-season is an absolute Cluster ****.

My psyche is so badly damaged in regard to CFC I've decided to find other outlets.

That’s a view across all the runs. CC won one. Walsh won one. Eddie won a few and never worse than third.

SPS and SOs big improvers

Ben running like Jack did in his first preseason

McGovern very unfit
I'm not to concerned with McGovs fitness other than injury.

He and his brother have some of the least typical AFL physiques i can imagine but they do good things when the heat is on.

I hate this term but they're both the epitome of clutch players. When there's big moments to get involved in these guys stand up.

And clutch they both are

400 reports for those interested:

Eddie overall the most consistent and I’d say still has the title.

CC second

Cottrell third

Walsh fourth

LOB 5th

SOS 6th

SPS 7th
Impressive list, thanks for the info. LOB is an elite runner and can only manage 5th (did have some downtime for an undisclosed ailment).
JSOS ticking all the right boxes is fantastic, and SPS releasing the handbrake is fantastic (nothing sinister, was clearly hampered last season).

Cottrell clearly auditioning for a reason, how close is his footy prowess to his athletic ability? Would love more pace and endurance, but must
still be a footballer.

I am. No free rides. If we are upping our fitness KPI's, it must apply across the board. Would rather play JSOS as the 3rd tall forward than
reward a bloke who does not have the (quality) miles in his legs.

I am sure he will get "there" but let's not apply double standards.

Little anecdote, as a 16yo kid training in my first season with the big boys, who had won the last 3 flags, I had contempt for a number of senior players who I never saw at training. One of them was
Bolton's father. Was always a fitness freak (don't look at me now) and hated those who did not put in on the track, regardless of how entitled they were. For the record Bolt's dad was probably shorter
than him, but a "great" country footballer.

Russell will get Gov right. I have faith.

Yeah, well I mean I'm not worried about his fitness because he's had an interrupted 12 months even before the back injury and I'm sure, if he plays, he'll be fit enough.

And don't make up stories about Bolts' family. Nobody can be shorter than Bolts.;)

I think your kidding, Stocker is the main ingredient in the trade by a mile, i dont care if they take Adelaides pick to the draft or trade table.

The two things are related, and cumulative.

Both impact on the "success" of the deal.

It was quite clear before this deal was done with Adelaide that Carlton would favor the trade table over the draft in 2019. The Club has said repeatedly that it was hitting the draft until 2018.

A clear intent to trade the 2019 pick leaves a situation where a high first may well have become a case of using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

No matter how much the Club was hot for Stocker, to not factor in the trade ramifications would have been pure negligence.

It is a distinct possibilty that we will look back and find that we got Stocker virtually for nothing - if the trade deals we want get done with the picks we end up with it simply doesn't matter if we gift Adelaide a substantial upgrade. Their ancient list structure is set to implode and one good kid is not going to save it.

Again, it is up to the players to show enough to put the bait in the water
