The Crows did that deal because they think the Carlton F.C is a joke. Take a look at the replay of their war room with Reid and his cronies winking and giggling amongst themselves. Win games, raise the middle digit.
They can wink & giggle all they like, but they will always be the team that allowed the Tiggies to break a 37 year premiership drought (just as the Dopers allowed the Maggies to break a 32 year premiership drought in 1990).

I'm really not concerned what Reid & Co think or for that matter anyone externally as it can be grouped with the likes of the media, who will always exaggerate a situation in the now. There are so many moving parts to the trade, that I suspect will continue to be intertwined for many years to come such as the Gibbs trade.

Gained: O'Brien, Schumacher, Kennedy, De Koning,McGovern, 2019 3rd
Lost: Gibbs, Wooller, Richards, Hill, McInerney, Foley, Jordon, McAdam, 2019 5th

  • The trade - If you look at this in isolation, many would not give up a top 4 pick for 2 latish 1st rounders, yet prior to this draft (any draft) I would be an advocate for this type of trade. The chance of getting 2 quality players versus 1, even if you miss on 1 of the 2 picks, it is debatable that a player taken in the first 4 ever goes on to be the best player in the draft. One Hodge (or Judd) versus a combination of S. Mitchell and S. Johnson, the debate would be interesting as they are all great players who have won flags, taken in the same draft
  • Stocker - No one knows what he will become, nor do we know where other clubs rated him. A side like GC, despite having 3 picks in the top 6, may have rated him at 7 and so on for all other clubs
  • What next year's picks will yield for both clubs and what impact will they have on their respective sides (see first point)
So many people get caught up/excited in the now/one aspect of a trade, yet the outcome will take years to determine the impact it will have.

It becomes a very good trade for Carlton if we choose this year to begin our progression up the ladder. Simple concept, don’t understand the need to talk about the technicalities of it.

His broken arm shouldn’t prevent him from the fitness work. He will just be a bit rusty with touch. His experience should put him in good stead and still allow him a spot in round 1. He will be doing contact work in 6 weeks you’d think.

He won't be playing round 1, club suspension.

No sign of Williamson this morning.

Jones, Lang, Macraedie, Cunningham running laps.

Marchbank doing very little.

McGovern and Setterfield in full training.

I'm torn. Last sentence is exciting, everything before that is not.

Thanks!
