Injury Wines has done his shoulder

According to this article, the club gave permission for Ollie Wines to water ski with several of his teammates. I suppose there can't be any repercussions to the player if it's agreed to by the club.

Im not sure how I feel about this yet. Happy that Ollie didnt do something he wasnt meant to but why would the club endorse activities that have a greater risk of serious injury?

Christ it's water skiing, not shark wrestling while wearing a meat suit
Its about risk mitigation. If its not a big deal then why do all AFL players and players in other sports have a clause about it in their contracts?

Well that was a massive storm in a teacup.

A few here with egg on their faces
Aside from showing us once again the embarrassing lack of professionalism on offer at the club. After the last 4 years, it would be great for personnel to start making sacrifices to be successful, and for the club to demand it.

But it's not listed ? Not a grey area. It's not

It says, 'including but not limited to'.

Wines sought and was granted permission to conduct a 'dangerous or hazardous activity'.

If he didn't think it was dangerous, then he wouldn't have sought permission from the club.

I don't want our players to be boring owned robots, but if you do something dangerous often enough then don't be surprised if you get hurt.

Not yet, need to wait for his scans to come in.

Even if he gets lucky and there nothing in it, not for a second would i for one feel like i had 'egg on my face' and i've probably been the most opinionated here. its un unnecessary risk to take leading into a new season.

Players need to understand, they need to make sacrifices as an AFL footballer to ensure they are 100% leading into a new year and have the professionalism required to succeed. You can have fun behind a boat without pushing the limits on a wakeboard and doing flips ect. If he gets away without injury, and i stress the if at this stage, it really needs to result in strict policies being put in place by the club. No high risk activities during preseason or the season. In your own time, its up to you but you must limit the risks.

Lol anyone believing scans take days to come in are being a bit naive. They are in. He trained today ffs.

If he sought permission, all good. I am a little bemused by people describing water skiing as a super hazardous, risky activity. Seriously, unless trying barefoot, speed water skiing or some hard slalom, it is a challenge to seriously hurt yourself.

Wakeboarding flips etc can pose more risk, but generally the speeds are still pretty tame. generally the worst happens when you forget to let go of the rope!

Did they ? Ithough he couldn't get them done because of the public holiday.

Pretty loose term saying trained. Did a bit of running away from the main group.
Doc has his sauces (I like BBQ) anyway it's another wonderful thing about our club more leaks than the Belgrano.

It can be hazardous, it just comes down to what your doing and how hard you push yourself.

Generally you have to be unlucky, but still pushing yourself is not something you should be doing as a AFL player.

I'm just waiting for the AFL integrity unit to investigate the circumstances to Wines injuring his shoulder, then a $20,000 fine being issued.
Just cause it's the AFL!!!.
