If Krooz is not 100% fit, who plays round 1? Lobbe or Phillips?

Phillips sounds like he's in good nick, Lobbe performed well late last year.

My money is on Lobbe. Thoughts?

*assuming we only have 1 ruck and no Levi for backup.

Based on training I'd back Phillips

Seems like a bit of an exaggeration - 50%.
Does anyone feel like putting together a best 22 based on all these 'outs'.
Might be an interesting excersise in assessing our depth.

Kreuzer will play if 70% fit.

While you'd like to have 22 cherry ripe players in round one, the truth is that good players are going to play a substantial number of games nowhere near 100%.

Kreuzer's work helping the young mids is important enough that if he is not in danger of reinjury, he plays.

Most important quote from article:

Tom Williamson

There had been concern for the defender after he sat out the last two sessions. But the club is adamant it is simply giving the youngster a breather after a brutal workload following a year out of the game with a debilitating back problem.

This appears to be a positive development.
This calls for some Willo magic.. 20190130_194829.gif

Considering he didnt get a game till late on last year..(and then did very well indeed)...I can't see how there can be any feelgood involved

Lobbe was and is a very good footballer. Does not get enough respect amongst our supporters.

Yeah he’s solid. Good leader and gives everything he’s got.

I’ve got no problem if he sees game time in 2019 but the point was he shouldn’t be gifted games just to get to 100.

There is a big difference between being available for selection and at peak fitness.

Yes, we don't have too many long-term injuries, but not having a full pre-season impacts the opening games and sometimes lingers through the season.
& you dont wanna let it linger, if you dont have to, dont have, dont have to let it linger.

I was a teenager when the Cranberries were big so I used to sing

I hate it when it lingers
Did you have to, did you have to pull my finger?

If everyone else comes on, he may end up becoming a De Goey type forward by necessity.

Cripps, Fisher, SPS, Setterfield, Dow, Walsh, O'Brien, Stocker.

Silvagni as a floating defender who rotates on-ball and Kennedy as a pseudo-power forward rotating on-ball.

Are you talking about Kennedy?
De Goey has just about the best burst pace in the league...If you actually meant Kennedy, you probably couldnt have picked a more different player for comparison....

I'm not concerned about giving some players a rest. It was common practice at Hawthorn during Andrew Russell's time. The value of an occasional rest is something I've learnt in recent years, I always believe that it's better to be fresh than to be fit and injured/sore. They've been training hard, I can't see why the odd player shouldn't be rested every now and then, particularly the older and the more injury prone players.

I would not be surprised if we see a good number of players being given a week off now and then during the season. It's good management.

Agree. McGovern would be our version of De Goey in the forward line. Has that burst speed, good vertical leap and can really take a hanger.

Kennedy going forward would probably be the equivalent of someone like Luke Parker going forward.

I have to admit, I am disappointed to read about Lebois. I had high hopes that he could potentially fill that high energy small forward role that we have been lacking since Eddie and Jeffy left.

Although, my hope was based on absolutely nothing - just his highlights packages.

Silvagni. The ever-present sentinel of the CFC.
Seems to be a lot more involved around training than in previous years. Maybe everyone is.

Re. Phillips vs Lobbe.
Phillips clearly the better performer so far although he'd want to have improved his tapping to advantage.
His leap is fine and he does get hand to ball better than many others, but he has to start to use that advantage. Maybe with the new ruck coach?

Good to see. One of my gripes with the club is the lack of involvement with past players with the current group. We have terrific, inspiring resources at our disposal, we need to engage them.
