Teams New England Patriots - The Pats

they ALL played their part on D, and most if not all players made big individual plays
Certainly, but I was particularly happy for Gilmore.

He copped a lot of negativity from Pats "fans" especially after that Carolina(?) game (not completely unwarranted), but didn't drop his head and turned it around big-time by the end of that season. Then this year he got better again, deservedly 1st team All-Pro. To cap it all off with the pick that essentially iced the game must have been so satisfying for him.

Can't at all say the big spend didn't pay off!

  1. Flores and Belichick need to be bronzed for that game plan. The team played with aggression, speed and literally gave the Rams WRs no chance to separate. That all started by shutting down the run game.
I've seen numerous comparisons of this defensive gameplan to the brilliant job BB did vs the Bills in SB XXV.

Well, not everyone is a bonafide star/great. Most players are just average who struggle week to week, or have their ups and downs from season to season, for a variety of reasons, onfield and off-field...even just stress from regular life. Often a SB winning team...different players have their ups and downs thru the year, not all firing week to week, and others pick up the slack, but eventually they pull it all together, as one, as a team, and that's all on the coaches for getting them primed at the right times.

I know it didn't result in ultimate glory but his PBU against the Jags in last year's AFCCG will be hard to top for mine

What kind of offers do we expect Trey Flowers to get? Do the Pats franchise tag him?

Would hate to see him go as he is a very important piece of the team.

He will attract some very enticing offer no doubt about that.
He is the signing that I am most anxious to read that we have re-signed.
He has had high production for two years now and is a keeper IMO.

With Gronk the the Twins possible retiring and 12 draft picks , 6 of which will most likely be in the first three rounds , it’s going to be interesting to watch the refit that Caserrio and B.B. do .

I agree he is definitely our biggest name FA but I would not be surprised if teams are offering him 10+ a year that we just pick up a new Edge with one of those draft picks you mentioned

What most stuck out to me this playoff run is when the D was asked to play more aggressive and get up field, it can and rather effectively. The Pats D just bludgeoned three of the NFL's best offences (with the exception of flag football in the second half against KC) by killing the run and bringing the heat. Makes you wonder about the effectiveness of read and react.

The team is in an interesting state. We could be legitimate title contenders for the duration of Brady's stay or in something of a flux. I hope Gronk has enough to go around at least once more and on D, Flowers on something similar to Hightower's contract would be welcomed. If he's looking to cash in on a big contract, I'm not sure we'll have enough cap to keep him.

Fascinating debate for mine is the "is Edelman a HOFer?" question. I probably lean ever-so-slightly toward no but his playoff resume is off the charts

Is it really a debate? Two 1000 yard receiving season over the course of his career, I mean Wes Welker's career shits all over Edelman's and no one mentions him as a HOFer...

Good player and all but it shouldn't even be a discussion, he isn't.

His record in the post-season is nuts, and winning championships is what it's all about, so I don't think it's a question that can be instantly dismissed.

Deion Branch a HOFer?

Welker has never come close to putting up prolonged playoff performances like Minitron however, as much as I like Jules, regular season numbers count for a lot in the eyes of voters. He's clutch and I love him but the HoF rewards statistics.

Agree, you must have stats in the top echelon at your position or at very least a longevity of consistency in the top 10-15...Edelman has the odd year here or there where he is but not enough to be a HOFer.

Injuries along the way including that serious one last year and slow start this year (for various reasons of course) probably messed that up for him, otherwise, he was on track to have a few good years back to back.

That said, I agree with you. When you take the bigger picture, he's not there. You're also talking about WR position, it's a crowded place to park your spot in the HoF. I think the conversation is warranted, it's not a ridiculous call. But push comes to shove, he misses out for mine.

I’m sure 3 rings (so far) and a SB MVP more than make up for it though

Devon McCourty announces that he is playing on in 2019. :):thumbsu:

Very important and underrated player, hopefully his brother sign on as well.

The longer the season went the better Jason got.
