I smiled at the comment in this morning's paper. More goals scored in the Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar game than were scored in the AFLW game between Adelaide and Bulldogs. In fact there were twice as many and we will await the Tory Shepherd article in reply.

i turned on and watched the last 5 minutes and i saw at least 5 kicks out of bounds on the full under no pressure.

I hope the rest of the game was better, because that 3 mins was awful.
Melbourne absolutely folded at the end, couldn't clear their defensive 50. Freo on the other hand couldn't convert. A poor spectacle by then but no different to a zillion men's games. As for no pressure we'll have to agree to disagree.

Sloane's sister Shae did her ACL in her debut game on the weekend too.

Shae Sloane?

Sounds like something I ordered at a Swiss restaurant once.

Second year in a row the Giants W team have a game at Drummoyne.

Second year in a row a massive thunderstorm has hit almost on game time.

Massive scoring game, this.

2 points half way through the last quarter. Collingwood doing their best to rebuke the knockers.

No pun intended.

It’s the first time I’ve actually taken notice of the W league comp. A question to Gill. if the umps are going to throw the ball in 10 meters from the boundary line ever time the ball goes out of bounds. Wouldn’t it be better just to decrease the width of the oval.

Missed the point there. Per New rules announced for 2019 NAB AFLW season the rule was added 'with the aim of creating more space around the contest and fewer secondary stoppages'.

They've done this in the mens pre-season over the years and while it's not an essential change, I don't mind it as a relatively "non-intrusive" concept to open the play up a bit. Changes the next potential contest from linear to 360 degrees which IMO does make for better footy.

I understand the rule, but has it actually opened up the play or just making it more congested around the pockets, wings and flanks.
The scoring hasn’t improved at all? Coll 1.2 yesterday and the crows last week 1.11 was laughable in perfect conditions on the Parade postage stamp.
The womens league want last if it continues and the AFL should introduce zones.
Atm it’s nothing more than rolling scrums, stoppages and hack balls.

Can the commentators stop being patronising pieces of shit?

Huge shank when kicking for goal, kick goes sideways:

"She's presenting well and she's a nice shot at goal, I actually think she's a chance here."

"Chloe Scheer, 45 degree angle to kick for her first goal for the adelaide crows, and that's off the side of the boot, not ideal."

Stop sugar coating it, they're playing at the top level. Call a shit kick a shit kick.

.... The scoring hasn’t improved at all .....
Not true, it has improved hugely from 2017. I'm not sure though there's any correlation with the boundary throw in rule.

You'll probably find half a dozen AFL games from last year with that sort of skewed scoring. Especially when adjusted for the women's games being shorter.

No it's not.
In general the ball is moving quickly up and down the ground in the various women's games. Plenty of examples of the ball going end to end in 3 kicks, which is the standard in men's games. Marking has improved out of sight. Accurate distance kicking to a player is really getting there too. Probably only bouncing and handball to advantage are lagging.
Yes if you want to look for rolling scrums, stoppages and hack balls you'll see them in phases of most women's games - just like the men's games.
I kept a copy of last year's North Melbourne v Sydney game on my hard drive as a sublime example of the very best our game can be and the women's games are nowhere near that but again almost none of the men's games are either.

You should stop comparing it to the AFL men's game, It's nothing more than a glorified amateur bore feast with commercial TV rights and sponsorship.

I'd rather watch an AFL match than an A League match.

But I'd rather watch a W League match over an AFLW match after watching the 2 semis and GF and minor round.

This year the W League had 40 international players - 25 from the USA which has the best domestic comp and the timing of the 2 comps schedule means the best in the US and Oz can play in both leagues over 12 months

That is the weakness of the AFLW's top down approach. They can't bring in marquee players, just unskilled code hoppers.

The women's game is actually the best way to take Aussie Rules internationally in a reasonable time frame, more so than the men's game. But this bullshit top down rather than bottom up approach, is going to stuff that up.

At the risk of upsetting any supporters of the lady's version of the game ( which is absolutely not my intention ), I would much prefer the Power and Maggies get their on field acts together before any consideration is given to the club entering a team in the AFWL.

If it is done too early I can foresee the move bringing out just more excuses for failure from some of the serial offenders who run the club.
