Teams Las Vegas Raiders - The Black Hole

That Mayock interview...

He's gonna over-think it. Trading top picks to gather more picks, so he can make a splash in the draft, drafting all these sleepers in the later rounds, trying to be too cute with picks, etc. He's already over-thinking it explaining the computer system and scouting system he's installed for his position coaches etc.

And that's not even including the "Jon Gruden Effect" come draft day, who is the pants wearer in that relationship.

Oy Vey, Raiders.

So he is doimg what you do in fantasy then?

I just think it's a very dangerous and silly situation.

Owner Mark Davis, has a love affair with Jon Gruden, who thinks he can do no wrong. Hires him to a position of total power for 10 years. Who in turn shreds the roster of worthwhile back-end talent as well as a few top level players, just so he can start from "ground zero" with "his guys". And hires a number of sub-standard assistants like Tom Cable, Greg Olson. And then proceeds to hire old time friend Mike Mayock (a media guy) to a position of GM -- that's "GM". Basically JG surrounding himself with yes-men and enablers, who has an owner who bromantically loves him and thinks he can do no wrong.

Recipe for disaster.

There's no accountability. No prove it or lose it situation. Got free and total reign for minimum 7 years (imo, because it's 2 years in Oakland, and at least 5 at the new LV to give a roster a chance to develop).

Instead...a very smart organization like the Ravens, they're constantly putting their players, coaches, FO people in "prove it or lose it situations", don't just extend contracts unless there's proof for it.

Which Davis too readily showed extending Reggie, and Reggie too readily showed extending Carr before Mack.

Talk about cutting it close. A little over a month ago the Raiders withdrew their bid to lease Oakland Alameda County Coliseum for next season, leaving them homeless until further notice. Commissioner Roger Goodell has said he would like to know by early February, presumably shortly after the Super Bowl. So, basically a week from today. Then there’s this.

The Raiders have begun calling season ticket holders telling them that they don't know where they are going to play next season, but ticket reps will stay in touch.

This paragraph is amazing, bashing the guy for using the yearly GG fantasy draft strategy. Lol 🤣🤣🤣

fantasy its shits and giggles (and even then i get mocked for it and people threstening to quit the league. But not a good plan for professional football with careers and millions of dollars on the line.

Just because you think he'll do something doesn't mean he will. You're acting like its a forgone conclusion.

Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock may be tempted to make a splashy selection early. Brown would qualify. Though undersized at 5-foot-10 and 168 pounds, he’s a deep threat in an increasingly pass-happy league. Plus, he’s already a fan of Gruden’s QB and Raiders captain, Derek Carr.

Oklahoma wide receiver Marquise Brown announced that he will skip his senior season to enter the 2019 NFL draft.

Brown led the Sooners with 75 catches, 1,318 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018.
Brown might be one of the most dynamic players in the entire draft. He possesses track-like speed, elite quickness in his routes and the ability to win after the catch. Despite his smaller stature at 5-foot-10 and 168 pounds, Brown could have a similar impact to Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill.

Or he might be Tavon Austin.

New Raiders defensive line coach Brentson Buckner inherits three young linemen and not much else, but he likes the potential of defensive end Arden key and defensive tackles P.J. Hall and Maurice Hurst.
“They played hard every snap,” Buckner said, according to The San Francisco Chronicle’s Matt Kawahara. “They have a hustle about themselves, they have a want-to about themselves. You saw the growth. None of these guys have reached their ceilings. They’ve all got upside.”
Buckner’s plan to coach up the three members of the 2018 draft class is simple and very much traditional.
“My philosophy with defensive line is pure fundamentals,” Buckner told Kawahara. “Technique, assignment and constant violence every snap. Bring a relentless effort.”

Not much good having a go long receiver with a QB who only throws 11 yards. Better to get another Cook.

Chargers receiver Tyrell Williams is set to hit free agency in March. Based on his own self-evaluation, it sounds like he’ll be looking to make big bucks on the open market.
I definitely feel like I’m a No. 1 receiver,” Williams said while exiting the Chargers’ facility earlier this month (via Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com). “So I want to make sure that I clean up all of the little things in route running and blocking, to make sure I solidify myself as a No. 1.

Trade Down
The nightmare scenario is this, and frankly I think it’s exactly what’s going to happen. Bosa goes first to the Cardinals, Williams goes to the 49ers, and Josh Allen goes to the Jets. What do the Raiders do then? Take an edge guy or a DT who is a reach?
Luckily for the Silver and Black, there are several intriguing quarterback options on the board that teams might want to move up for. Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, and Drew Lock are the top guys in what is probably a fairly weak quarterback class. The top four teams in the draft don’t need a QB (unless you are totally off the Derek Carr train),

The Dolphins, Broncos, Giants, Jaguars, and Indigenous Persons could all do with an upgrade. There are only so many blue-chip QB prospects to go around, and someone’s going to want their guy. When Heisman winner Murray eschewed baseball, it threw everything into flux.

So, say the Raiders trade down a few spots. They can still get a quality edge rusher like Ferrell or Gary at a much better spot and also pick up a few picks for their trouble. Remember what the Chiefspaid for Patrick Mahomes, and what the Bears paid for Mitch Trubisky. The Broncos are said to be in love with Drew Lock, what if they’re scared of not getting him and being stuck with Case Keenum for another season? What if the Dolphins really want Murray? What if the Jaguars think Haskins is going to the Giants, and want to prevent that from happening? Hell, what if the Buccaneers decide they’re through with Jameis Winston? Even in their nightmare scenario, the Raiders are still in the driver’s seat.

There is also Brian Burns who would be available late maybe even second round.
The other option would be the TE Hockenson. He looks like a top ten pick going on bpa. Good hands and blocks like an Olineman. Both our Ts need help.
