JLT series kicks off this weekend and we are playing Melbourne in what can only be described as "their Grand Final"

Not going to do a 'last time we met' or anything like that given the JLT is a bit of a unknown, so instead I'm going to pose a few questions that I would love to get everyones thoughts on for this JLT game:

1) What are you hoping to get out of this JLT game vs Melbourne?

2) Who are the prime candidates to do some rucking duties while Nankervis is off the ground?

3) How much game time do you expect Cotch, Dusty, Jack and Rance to get?

4) Brandon Ellis needs to have a big JLT, will his move back to the wing reignite his form of 2014?

5) Which young player are you looking forward to seeing run around the most?

6) Do you expect to see much difference in our game plan in 2019 vs 2018?

7) What is your starting 22 for this JLT game?

No injuries and a great showing from the kids would be fantastic!

Not concerned at all with the score line at all
Wouldn’t even mind the team throwing a few centre clearances to play around with some defensive setups from a quick clearance

Want to see Balta, Soldo, Chol and CCJ all given a crack in the middle as well along with some stints forward and even a couple of stints on the wing for Balta and Chol just to see if they can provide anything in different possies

Young blokes and players like Ellis and Kmac having a red hot crack and walk up best 22 blokes just going through the motions getting game time in the legs

Playing the dees is perfect for a JLT game, gives us a great chance to muck about with different set ups in the middle against a team with a dominant ruckman and good midfield, also a good opportunity to see how much the 6-6-6 rule will affect us.

If i could hand pick an opponent to play in the preseason it would be the Dees for exactly the reasons you highlighted, perfect opportunity to test things out in a game that means nothing in the grand scheme of things

1. A competitive, but injury-free game. A win is not all that, but like every JLT game I want to see a lot of positives. If we go there and get pummeled by 40+ points then I am not going to be happy because there isn’t much from a confidence perspective that we get out of a thrashing. It’s how we started off the disastrous 2016 season.

2. CCJ, Balta or Soldo. From the practice match on Saturday, it looked like these guys (along with Astbury) were being groomed in this role. I personally don’t want to see us using Astbury for the ruck contests, so one of the three mentioned above.

3. Depending on how fit they are. I expect Rance and Riewoldt to get a lot of time but Cotchin and Dusty especially to be on managed time. Maybe 60% to Cotchin and 50% to Dusty.

4. I don’t know. It’s certainly better than the backline though.

5. Higgins, Balta and Collier-Dawkins

6. Yes. I think our taller set up will cause us to rely on forward pressure less. We are going from 2 talls forward of centre (Riewoldt + Nankervis) to potentially 4 (Riewoldt, Nankervis, Lynch and a 2nd ruck like Soldo). The forward pressure will probably still be there, but I see us relying more on a mix of forward pressure/crumbing and contested marks in the air.

7. Ignore the exact positioning of the players but here they are:

Rance Grimes Astbury
Vlastuin Houli Broad
Ellis Cotchin Dusty
Edwards Rioli Higgins
Soldo Riewoldt Balta

Followers: Prestia, Nankervis, Graham
I/C: Short, Lambert, McIntosh, Butler

Caddy, Castagna, Garthwaite and Lynch will probably miss JLT by the sounds of it.

1. Competitive game, no injuries for either side. Result not a huge issue as long as its not a smacking.

2. Soldo sounds like hes the one, id personally perfer a Balta type but we shall see

3. Jack and Rance to play 75%, Cotch and Dusty closer to 50%

4. I think it definitely will, now that Grigg is injured the wing is Ellis' for the taking. Was a gun in that position early on in his career, its his natural spot.

5. Ross, Higgins, RCD. Really hoping all 3 play and show something, obviously Higgins has already shown plenty but id like to see some new strings to his bow.

6. I think there will be some differences, i expect pressure to still be at the forefront and possibly even more direct ball movement with the extra talls (if thats possible).

7.
B: Grimes, Astbury, Vlastuin
HB: Short, Rance, Markov
C: B Ellis, Prestia, Lambert
HF: Rioli, Riewoldt, Butler
F: Baker, Balta, Edwards
R: Nank, Dusty, Cotchin
Int: Soldo, Higgins, RCD, Ross

I'm really scared about this game.
Apparently the Demons are all over the new 666 set-up and playing Gawn with Preuss has made them Premiership favourites already - and Preuss playing up forward has the Coleman and Brownlow already in his pocket.

We gonna get reamed!!!!

Leppa said best side available .... sounds familiar

What I'm wanting and expecting to see

Good contest (so the coaches have something to work with) ,
Cotch & Dusty cruising around and injecting themselves occasionally and looking totally awesome

Ellis busting his arse

Prestia & Lambert have good games (to be premiership contenders we need them firing )

I'm wanting to see but not overly hopeful

of seeing
Markov, Balta , CCJ , Soldo , Bolton , Naish , Weller & Stack all in action

we might see some but I suspect not all

the weather in shepparton might be too hot for the melbourne players lol
Yep, considering it will be 38 degrees at bounce time i am not going to take anything away from this game other than we will blow the cobwebs out and i expect the BMW's to be rested in the second half and then the extended squad to see out the rest of the match.

The heat rule will see this played with no time on, starts at 20 min and just ticks down to 0 non stop.

That's all I ever ask out of these matches. Love watching the kids

The Jack's (Riewoldt and Higgins) will have a tube of zinc on each, poor blokes. I feel their pain.

Hopefully both clubs are smart with rotations and everyone makes it through all ok. L
