Guthrie had 10 contested possessions today from 23 ( second only to Dangerfield ) ...DE at 87%....Unlike some, I didnt think he was terrible ....

He wasn't.
He was ok, the issue (atleast for me) is for a bloke with the experience and "leadership" he has he SHOULD be doing more.
The biggest irk for me is his lack of defensive running, often I saw guys like Parfitt run PAST Guthrie to man up Cams own man or chase him down, that's simple not good enough.
Equally I'm frustrated by his "handball backwards at all costs" mentality, particularly when we have open players forward of the contest that he simply didn't see (due to said mentality).
I personally think he's a good player, would float into most teams 22 and would carve out an ok career, but he should be better, now I'm not suggesting that's all down to Cam himself, as others have mentioned perhaps he's played out of position, or the coaches can't develop him further, but I expected better at this stage of his career.

Should be going at 100% when you dont kick the ball further than 20 metres. Chip chip chip chip...

Seriously people? What is it with the Guthrie hate? He's been played out of position for 2 years now, and that's affected his game. Gets played in the middle in the second half, has 9 clearances (the most on the ground) and nearly single-handedly drags us back into the game. Yeah he dropped off in the last, but so did most of the team. He was shit in the first half and then played in the middle and wasn't. It's pretty obvious that he's just being played out of position, given the stark difference between his first half and the third quarter in particular.
Guthrie managed 7 kicks for the game,3 of those were in a 15 second period 3rd quarter?where he waxed it with a couple of other on half back all 3 kicks covered a bought 15 mtrs side ways,he had no positive influence on the game what so ever.Zack was better not great but better.Same old Geelong if Cam gets picked rd1 on that sort of effort.

The blokes talking Guthries game up must be the blokes without Foxtel.... your observation was spot on.

No influence? He had 9 clearances, the most of anyone on the ground. I feel like this board just isn't happy unless they've got a whipping boy. My boy is Parsons, if you're looking for one. Or O'Connor based on yesterdays effort. Hey even Kelly was a joke, so I'm not sure why he's not getting the bulk of the hate, instead of Cam. His quick step out of traffic and his handball dishes to Danger were what facilitated our comeback in the third. Matt Crouch kicks like shit, lol, and he won a best and fairest off handballing. Guth is clearly a better mid than a defender. He played like shit when he played in defence yesterday, then turned it on in the second half. To say 'he had no positive influence', is just taking the piss imo.

We were getting smashed before he got put on ball and turned the tide of the game with Danger. It's just your own biases in general that are clouding your judgement. I hate Guthrie as much as the next guy, when he deserves it. Doesn't deserve it off yesterdays effort. That should be solely reserved for Kelly.

Oh and you're right, I don't have Foxtel. I have a vpn and watchafl.com.au. Still watched the game though.

He has developed a knack of arriving 2 or 3 seconds after a contest,I liken him to a crow turning up after a road kill looking for the easy pickings.

He had 9 f*cking clearances, lol. Not sure how you can arrive '2 to 3 seconds after the contest' but still be first to the ball 9 times? Ingrained bias just means that no matter what he does, you've all made up your mind about him. That's just narrow-minded.

Wrong... Im basing my opinions on what I actually saw.

Also I thought it was a pretty scrappy game, we matched it controlled periods, the capitalised more.
Despite the hyping up by the commentary the 6-6-6 rule isn't drastically going to change the game at all
They had close to their premiership side in with Sheppard and the currently suspended gaff (how's a that work) added and Kennedy missing. We had Tuohy, Bews, S.Selwood, Cockatoo, Ablett, Hawkins missing. Reckon that's not so bad.
We need to re look at Zac Smith. He is more of a goer than Stanley. Rhys will work into the season but needs to be told go or Go. Fort just needs to get used to the pace of AFL. He will be a good addition.
Still think we'll get Goldie or Martin next year

None of them stuck in my mind, the two Guthrie at one stage down back worked well in one play, and one lovely pass inside 50 in the first half but the rest, uninspiring stuff.

Don't think Sav will have a great year this year mite take him a year to get over than broken ankle
I think people also need to remember that he wasn't exactly a dominant star when he got hurt.. He's a kid who has played a handful of games, so he's got to get used to playing top level as well as getting over his ankle injury.

He stitched Miers up last night too...
Took the handball receive and ran past. Got stopped by defender in 2 steps. Look at Miers and handballed to him. Miers was under pressure before ball got there. Miers gets tackled and tries to get it back to Guthrie. WC clear ball and eventually goal.

Poor section of play to call for ball, get it and then dump it off to another player who gets hammered.

Go Catters
Modus operandi

Doesn't fit when you hate someone Dave.
He shits me to tears and also provides me with a few laughs, but I want him to be good.
He's gonna play every game.
Preety good game by his standards, was very close to kicking a goal from the centre too, which is his signature move when he's on.
But some of defensive efforts are just so appalling. He really shouldn't be in the team. And it was a scratch match but a lot of other players were trying.
And that was just on TV, not at the ground where you get the real Guthrie defensive appreciation.

Yes, there were more positives. I was just being a smart arse.
Clark, Stewart, Atkins... It was also great to watch how the new blokes went about it.
Kelly was meh, but he will be back normal by Round 1.

Yeah all comedy has a sense of truth to it though. Honestly I felt a few bright spots like mentioned, no injuries hopefully except perhaps Taylor

Outside of that the key position forward line depth is pretty worrying.

But I just feel unsatisfied lol because I know that game means nothing and neither opposition really went at it. And a lot of players sitting out for both sides.

So Ieading into week two I honestly have no idea what kind of side geelong will throw up on the short break. Does it mean we are just going to condition players to play then throw a round 1 side together.

I could name half the board that don't think Cam is doing enough and should be booted up the arse to see if he can kick start his career,IE extended spell in the vfl,but couldn't name one that hates him.

I want us to win every game, but I really felt there were agendas being met in this game.
Will be interesting to see the tactics next week.
