In terms of volume though, 6 unavailable players is incredible.

And the rest of the list look really fit, not just fit enough to not be on the injury list.

Another plus is that outside of Lang all our mids are fit and firing...still the most important part of the team.
Still remember a few years ago where we severely lacked mids on the list and a few were out injured and we just couldn't compete. Last year we still clearly didnt have enough mids, VFL team often had no AFL listed ones.

Quality vs quantity.

We're pretty badly hit in terms of the effect on our team and the backline hasn't been served up any favours with Docherty, Marchbank, Macreadie and Williamson off the list.

Doc and Marchbank are absolute keys to our backline. Its hard to see us competing anywhere as well without them . Its still quite speculative whether Macreadie and Williamson are as important as we all think. If Weiters continues his step up this year, and we get marchbank back then we have half a solid backline along with simpson and Thomas.

HARKER, hate to throw any of our players under the bus, but this is a much better scenario than being down 3-4 key midfielders.

I understand your concern but I am absolutely ecstatic with where things sit at the moment.

Everything that is within our control as a footy club and professional high performance team is tracking well.

Well, Kreuzer, Marchbank & Macreadie seem involved in the ball work, though in blue singlets for whatever that could represent (split for teams &/or injured folk).

Lang was also on the track by recent reports so it’s really the sighting of TW back on the scene to warm the heart.

Would still like to hear on the progress from Mr Pickett as he’s 2.5 months in now and surely there’s some mapping to be seen from the surgery & rehab so far?

Ecstatic?

I'm far from ecstatic about our injury count and the quality of personnel not available.
Have seen it over the course of enough years now to understand that you start off with a poor injury count, the numbers just keep rolling over.

We bemoaned SPS not having pre-seasons and for the relatively poor form presented thereafter, yet we have Marchbank, Macreadie, Williamson and Lang in that basket along with Docherty & Pickett likely out for the year.

Me? ....... Not ecstatic. :)

There was talk that Lang's ankle had, until recently, been mistreated. Leaving aside Picket, Willo, and Doc, none of which can be attributed to injury management, the other injuries fit the MO which AR outlined when he arrived. He takes players as close as he practically can to their failure point; then progressively builds from there. If you look at the current injury scenario in that context, it actually seems a really positive first stage; in that the injury numbers aren't higher.

Not saying it couldn't be worse. Just saying I would have liked it to be better and it has nothing to do with Russell, but for our season.

Call it luck but Richmond only have Caddy & Grigg that for now seem are not in a position to play the opening round, but will be available not too long after.
Year after year, we have not had that same 'luck' That's nothing to be happy about unless our expectations are truly so low, that having 5 of our best players unavailable amounts to a good result.

Cant argue with that. Loosing 1 let alone multiples of your best is a shitesandwitch

Tigers have had an extrodanairy run over the last 2 years

Lions last year was almost the best run I have ever seen, only missing Cameron from best 22, in the 2nd half of the year

No matter what fitness regime you have in place, luck plays a massive part

Players were pushed through what is being reported as an extremely testing pre-season (probably the most) in terms of running volume/intensity and have largely come out of it unscathed, particularly from a soft-tissue injury point of view, which is huge. I don't need to list the players who've had numerous soft tissue injuries throughout their early career and have been unable to display their talents adequately.

Marchbank and Macreadie perhaps the main victims, Williamson too. The latter two were probably extensions of poor management via the previous regime. Marchbank seems to need a reaaaaally individualised program because it has become apparent that he is essentially made of glass.

There's no point addressing the Pickett injury; an unfortunate event. Likewise Docherty, an unfortunate event. Docherty didn't do the majority of his rehab under Russell and Pickett came back to pre-season in horrendous shape. Forget those guys, they are long-term reclamation projects with about a ~50% chance of returning to AFL football consistently. And we're giving them the best chance to do that under that guy we all know.

You can look back to last year and the obvious impact it has had on a few players this year. You can also look to Richmond as a comparison, but I don't think that's particularly fair given most of their list have multiple pre-seasons and hardened AFL bodies to work with.

I'm just looking at October-November 2018 onward, our record from whence is pretty good.

Tigers are a bunch of flogs, and as much as I'm embarrassed and ashamed to admit it, I hope the injury curse leaves Princes Park and makes its way to Punt Road.

Uncanny what The Tigers have achieved through their medical department. It's as though they're beyond injury..........Hang on..... :)

Just kidding but the data would be amazing to compile, as it's so out of step with industry standards.

Have been trying to convince myself that Doc is an unfortunate event. But when I see 2 unfortunate events, one after the other in same seemingly innocuous circumstance, cant help but think that it's not just a case of misfortune.

Saints had a bad run last year too, seems to be mirroring GC from a few seasons back
