Jumper clash fails

You could just wear white (w. black strips) every time you played Carlton and that would work perfectly fine too
I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to this but ultimately if it’s our home game we are entitled to wear whatever strip we want and the onus should be on the opposition to provide a strip that differentiates itself from it. Just as we should do when we play away.

Anyway I also apologise from bringing this up again, for some reason this thread opened at page 19 rather than the last of the thread so I didn’t see this topic had already been done to death.

It's actually Eddie who insists Carlton wear their home strip.
Its ridiculous that he does if so.

No, I understand where Eddie is coming from. He likes the tradition of Carlton/Collingwood games and doesn't want to see either team wearing clash jumpers for the AFL's most storied rivalry game... Which is all the more reason why he should just set aside the idea of Collingwood wearing their home jumpers and black shorts every second time they play Carlton and just agree to wearing white shorts for that one home game.

Anyways, I've been informed the Pies will revert to wearing a white jumper with black stripes and black numbers for their home game vs Carlton this year which is commendable (but they'll keep wearing their black shorts, which is a bit stupid IMO)

Shit like this just confirms my suspicion that clubs only go along with the AFL's clash jumper policy because they see it as a marketing opportunity to sell a few extra jumpers to their fans and make a few extra dollars.

Nobody is really that concerned about the actual reason why we have the rule in the first place. They don't care. Just the dollars.

The AFL realised there was a problem and so they made the clash jumper rule. But their main priority is always to make money (more more more) and this is why they drop the ball on all these little things which pisses off us, the fans.

I know away teams usually go the white shorts but eagles in yellow shorts would have looked crisp. Plus matching shirt to shorts makes things better in most cases (especially when white isn’t one of the colours on said shirt)

Reminds me of this

And a no for the yellow shorts for me.

That actually looks fine to me. (putting aside that it doesn't look anything like Carlton, but as a standalone uniform, no dramas).

Agreed. White shorts just introduces more colours unnecessarily imo - especially when there’s already white on the home teams shirt (albeit limited in freos case)

Matching shorts to shirt just makes so much more sense in this instance

Agree. Richmond need Yellow shorts, Essendon need red shorts and Hawthorn and West Coast need Golden Yellow Shorts.

Maybe I’ll warm to it, and the more I think about it, this with yellow shorts would have been an improvement.

There are generally issues where shorts don’t match the main guernsey colour.

Collingwood fixed it by making their home guernsey black.

North fixed it by making their home guernsey blue.

It’s why Geelong largely use white shorts at home.

Hawthorn is the remaining one - yellow guernsey with brown shorts. Their current away guernsey would make for a better home guernsey (purely for these colour purposes, not in terms of what they might want to wear).

Still nothing done with Collingwood vs Carlton clash, exhibit today’s JLT match...

One of Carlton or Collingwood should be forced to wear a guernsey that is considerably different to what they usually wear. Should be the same rules for Collingwood and Carlton as it is for every other team.
No need for that.

Pies: white shorts, white jumpers with black stripes/black numbers
Blues: navy shorts, navy jumpers

Home or away.

Problem solved

It is the same rules for them.

It’s the AFL. They just can’t make the right decisions on what teams should wear. They **** it up time and time again. Every weekend. In all types of games, not just Carlton v Collingwood.

It’s so simple, but the AFL are just unable to do it for some reason.

I thought Eddie said he'll get their side to wear the white jumper to keep Carlton in their navy.

Or was that only for in season games, as they didn't do it yesterday.

Everyone just needs to draw a line in the sand that white = away/coloured shorts = home is just not a thing anymore.
Shorts should match the main jumper colour.
Geelong seem to have got the idea by choosing to wear white shorts with their main jumper.
There should be no number panels (are there any anymore?) and no different colour on the back/front of the jumper (eg sydney and giants)

If Pies want Carlton in Navy then they have to choose their white variant otherwise Carlton in their "clash". Pies choice at their home games.

Two that have annoyed me in preseason so far:

Port vs North. WTF!

Pies vs Blues. Just make us wear white guernsey white shorts always or make the blue have a light blue away strip.

Also teams should never have the same colour socks exactly.
