So what happens when it’s a +30c day and the scores at the 20 min mark of the 1st qtr is
Team A 0.4 vs Team B 0.2 ?
No goals scored so No Runner or Players to get water!

The interchange system still exists, and anyone desparate for water can grab one from a trainer on the sideline during a break in play if they're quick enough.

I'm sure they'll have a clause for extreme weather conditions , they're unlikely to put players' health at risk.

They had water carriers on during the JLT at some of the hotter days.

I'm a fan of the rule. I was so over runners being on the field all game directing play. Let the players decide the games. If you need to come off, here's an idea, come off and use an interchange.

Mmmmm, climate change will stuff this rule up, we'll eventually be playing 10 minute quarters on dust bowls in 50 Celsius 80 percent humidity conditions.

Maybe the coach is allowed to run on once a quarter, at a time of their choosing. Two minutes and then off again, like supermarket sprint.
Wouldn't mind sticking Dewy in the forward pocket for 2 minutes...

How long till we get time outs so the coach can talk to his players for 2mins during a quarter?

Some teams were using the runner as a 19th man on the field - the coaches grumbling can go and get nicked!

Bingo.

It was very annoying, and compounded by the fact that runners are as dumb as anything and getting in the way. Get them off the field, they can come on after goals

Remember Nick Maxwell living out his Collingwood days for GWS by just standing there and occupying space.

Yep, not the only one but he was a shocker. There was that other one in the finals last year as well. They were on the field every second of the game, was a joke.

Good call- this is a distinct possibility...
Cats fans know the damage Dew can do in a couple minutes.

perhaps AFL players will have to harden up like soccer players

You didn't just say harden up and "soccer players"

They fall over like they have been shot every time someone grazes them! Do we need to look at the diving?

I agree that players shouldn't need runners though.

The coaches created this mess so they have no one else to blame but themselves. For too long They had too much power and now that something didn’t go their way, they are jumping up and down like a six-year-old chucking a tantrum.

As you may already be aware the AFL has a heat rule policy where on extra hot days players can get extra breaks and water...

hmmm interesting
what if its 25 degrees, 25 min mark and score is 6 behinds to 4 behinds
AFL wouldn't think to enforce heat policy in that, but players would be dehydrated ...
meh. I've played cricket in 40* fully padded up and got no relief until a drinks break. Professional athletes will manage.

The AFL has twigged after a few years of sticking their head in the sand, that the game is over coached.

Restricting the runners is a huge step towards making the game more watchable and more player driven.

As for the water carriers, I'm sure interchange rotations will cover it.
