Yes it may be harsh but to put it bluntly on my viewing the girls have been atrocious this year, about all you can say is the effort has been there.

This conference system has to be put in the bin next season surely.
There were three games that I watched this year where I thought precisely the opposite. This game being one. It was all too little, too late.

Trade SFT to Gold Coast as the game seemingly got passed her this year. Teams ran it off her at will. She dangles the carrot of being able to turn a game and make a sudden impact but they would be better off with a more mobile forward with forward pressure rather than just a presence.

If Conway stays she would be a great injection of pace missing from this year.

Suns coming in will shake us up. Get rid of some of the dead weight on the team. Invest in some QLD girls. Well get trounced for a season or two but hopefully pull out of it with a generally stronger team that doesnt need to be carried by a few stars all the time (like Freo this season).
You have to remember, Starcevich drafted those "dead weight" girls, because he obviously thought they were better than the other girls available to us. It's not like there's going to be dozens of better girls for us to add at the draft later this year.

I have a feeling, if the QWAFL doesn't improve significantly, both Gold Coast and Brisbane will be left behind by the majority of the competition.

I'd like to know, how many of our academy girls stay in the game once graduating from the academy and school?

Because from here on out, almost every girl/woman who joins the Lions will come from our academy, or girls/women who are playing in the QWAFL and have taken a big step forward in their development.

The Vic girls have an advantage over the northern girls, in that they're playing NAB U18 games right now, and when the NAB U18 season finishes, the best girls play in the VFLW. They're already being exposed to higher levels of competition than what our academy girls are exposed to.

For those that follow the Lions AFLW team, it will be interesting to see how many follow the girls U18 championships, because that will give us the best idea of the talent coming in to the team each year.

As hard as it is to take this competition serviously we did play in the First 2 grand finals so we’re going pretty well and for all the advantages they have Collingwood have been horrible.

I'm pretty sure I heard on the coverage today that SFT kicked 1 goal all season.

1 goal and seven behinds!
Already checked out?????

It's a shame as she has been one of Brisbane's success stories but you can't afford such a sudden drop off in a short season. Maybe she can work on it during the year but I would move her on whilst she still has good currency and refocus the forward line.

I'm not sure you understand how trading and drafting works in AFLW.

SFT has absolutely no currency/value for us at the trade table.

She does have value if someone of equal or greater value is prepared to come here as part of the trade.
But of course that is not as easy as it sounds.

In that scenario, yes.

As you said, the player has to want to come here, and SFT has to want to move on.

Now we're talking like a pro sport, where players are commodities and loyalty doesn't exist.

To be fair no I didn't but would seem you weren't totally across it either. I just don't hold that great an interest in it but have followed the Lions due to no Swans team.

Game is moving quicker now than her output. Probably only needs a bit more fitness base. Last year she went to ground too often but she has fixed that up which is a credit to her. If she has a good year the Lions are going to have success but she had the major dropsies this year possibly because of fatigue. She is a likeable lady and a fan draw but needs some work if she is likely to be retained. Good luck to her.

No, I was fully aware that if a quality player from an interstate club asked for a trade to Brisbane, SFT would have trade value there. I just don't believe such a scenario will occur, or that SFT would ask to go, or that Starcevich would willingly let her go.

Nah other poster called you out there. You are just quick to judge. At least I can admit I didn't Know as I don't follow the ins and outs of the comp.

Mate, I always put my hand up around here for stuff I don’t know.

If I covered every scenario in such discussions, my usually already long posts would probably be three times as long again.

Sabrina just needs to work on her fitness .Shape up in the off season .
Agree and also how to hold a mark, so many drop chest marks.
That could be blamed on fatigue, or could be she just struggles to take chest marks because of her anatomy.

On our team positions.
it seams as though our backs have good penetrating kicks on them , but our forwards and some of our mids either don't possess the ability or get caught looking for the short pass.
How many dinky 10m to 20m passes happened when someone could of taken a shot on goal.
Some of our passes where pretty short, lucky to get paid in some instants es .
We tried hard and most of the girls looked like they were having fun out there.
I find it hard to take the comp seriously at this shortened state.
Still feels like an exhibition .

Went to the game yesterday convinced the girls would roll the Pies. Apparently our girls did too, because from the first bounce they seemed shocked that Collingwood were putting up a fight. We had far too many players balking from giving a sheppard, putting their head over the pill or simply putting their body on the line. "Bruise free" footy is a phrase that comes to mind. Woeful decision making, poor skill execution and some petulant behaviour all added to an absolute shocker of a day. In the last quarter our lack of on field leaders was apparent and, whilst it's been great getting games into the new girls, it's a real area of concern. We have some of the most experienced AFLW players on any list and they pretty much all went into panic / self-preservation mode during the game. Kate Mac was continually sitting off the pack waiting for a cheapie while allowing her opponent to create a plus one at the stoppage. Our lack of two way midfield running was evident with Pies players regularly getting goal side on a turnover. Plenty of tape for the coaches to work with, but geez...between GC coming in and natural attrition, we could be looking at another 8 - 10 new faces next year - most of whom are likely to have little - if any - experience. A 2 win season is a fail in anyone's book; bring on 2020 and let's see what the 4 new teams coming into AFLW 4.0 means for the Mighty Lions!
