Easy solution for me

Out Butler
In Ross

Rioli can move forward more and put Ross in the guts
As untidy as Butler was, his forward pressure was still very good with 7 tackles

Alot of people inside the club have big wraps on Garthwaite. Apparently hes been Rance and Astburys protege over the last couple of years. Riewoldt said in the pre season that we would see him play alot of games this year but i struggled to see how we would fit him in with Rance, Grimes, Astbury and Broad already back there. Always believed everything happens for a reason, maybe this injury to Rance is the opening we needed to unleash Garthwaite into the back 6 (know hes a few weeks away though). From all reports this kid is gonna be a star and now were going to be able to get a good amount of game time into him. Maybe it all turns out ok in the end

rubbish west coke won it without gaff and natanui
Who?
But if we manage to pull it off, how good would it be? It’d almost be better than 2017 because we did it without one of our stars, proving a lot of opposition supporters wrong.
Would be amazing but we saw last year however hard it is to win the thing. Even as the supposed best team with very healthy list. Everything has to go right...and well...not a great start.
Chicken little peaheart comment
Ok, thanks
In Lunch
Out Rance
Nothing changed class wise from last year.
Yeah we didn't win last year. -_-

Wishing all the best for Rance hopefully the suspected severity by the post injury assessment by the medico's is not reflected in the MRI scan tonight.

If Rance is unfortunate to require a lay off then David becomes our new leader and Dylan his direct deputy this will provide an enormous opportunity for these players to step up in their roles. These are fierce and proud men they will bleed out before letting Rance down.

We have Bachar and Nick highly capable backmen and Nathan who is more than a match for most opposition forwards.

Transitioning and integrating Ryan into the back six will be achieved the unit is tight and one hole will not sink the ship and I will be tipping Rance's presence will not disappear he will be there watching and they will lift knowing their general is wounded but looking on.

Hopefully what the magnet reveals will be kind to us tonight.

.

Bloody well said mate.

Yes, but don't underestimate how important he is to the team and how good he is. He's been in charge down there for 5 years ,it's a massive blow.

It’s a blow for sure and narrows our margin of error, but WCE lost Gaff and Nicnat, dogs lost Bob etc... it’s another soldier up.

Yes. People dismissing the fact that over the last few years, in the last quarter of perhaps 4 or 5 games Rance saves 3 or 4 goals and proves to be the difference. There's a reason the oppo hate him so much and why they are all so delighted now that he's injured. He's the difference between finishing 17 wins and 14 wins. And I'm being serious about that.

Agreed. Caddy would really help at the moment.
Caddy is too slow, we need to fast track Ross, someone with mongrel and isn't afraid to get dirty.
Cotch was doing all the dirty work tonight, next week against Collingwood we will get smashed big time.
Our midfield won't stack up with the new rules and the AFL got their wish.

Correct. He has a massive influence on games.

I think of Vlaustin, Grimes, Astbury, Houli... what a better four to lead two other players in the backline? Whether thats Short, Ellis, Garth, Balta, etc. What better hands than four incredible players, who all hold their own at the very least.

Rance is incredible, no doubt, but these things happen. Garth will get a second or third tall. Yes, it might be an issue sometimes, but we'll have to work it out.

I'd be more concerned about our midfield (clearances) though, but that's another story.

He'll have a whole year to get used to AFL level as well

You cant force an inside mid in to fast track. He needs time, and seasons in the gym to harden the body and build the motor. Throwing him into the bottom of packs against guys like Cripps or midfields like the Pies or Demons just wont work.

I think he will be a player, but he isnt the answer to our inside mids this year.

Butler was putrid in the JLT, and putrid again tonight. Needs a few weeks in the 2s.

Short's stat sheet suggests he had a decent game, but I thought the new rules exposed him defensively.
We can't afford to carry a bloke just because he's good at kick-outs... Especially without Rance.
I actually thought Short did some excellent defensive work and cracked in hard a few times.
More than I remember last year. Didn’t think his kicking tonight was very special at all.
