Surprised by the Clark ommision

We now have 2 back flankers on the bench and very little midfield depth.

Clark would have given us both options

Trying to make sense of it I’d say Newnes won’t play back and will be on a wing. McKenzie the 7th defender

Our 3 starting mids aren’t very versatile so maybe we’ve accepted that and so don’t need as much mid depth - none of them will rest forward. The 3 of them suit a defensive reactive stoppage setup and pierce plays to that more than Marshall. Steven will be the one to look to be positive

Going small forward doubles down on what worked for us in the jlt - locking it in the forward line

Sinclair has been chosen ahead of Clark which is a surprise

We’ve gone with an extra flanker than Marshall - not sure that is a surprise. Wilkie/battle could give pierce a chop out so Bruce can stay forward

I agree it’s very safe and steady. Hopefully they’ll take more risks after they’ve avoided the banana skin

The player that is lucky in my opinion is Sinclair. However, a few watching him closely really liked his JLT games. He has got the spot ahead of Clark. MacKenzie is an absolute no-brainer if fit in my opinion as he can play so many different roles.

Long is also a no-brainer for the simple reason that he's a gun and a match-winner. Just look at his last quarter against Bulldogs JLT. That's why he's in.

He is not a gun yet and match winner yet either, so he is getting picked on one quarter of JLT ?

Look I'm happy Long is in, just hoping our selections this year have a bit of integrity

Hunter Clark out is mystifying, i would def have him in ahead of Sinclair and Lonie!
Same with Acres, but at least they have the excuse he is underdone!
Other than that, pretty much as expected i would have thought!

We will get away with this side for this week
But will def need Acres, Brown and hopefully Clark and Coffield for next week on!

Frustration levels over selection had dissipated over the pre-season after doing my absolute plums in last season.
Thought we might see something different this season.

Having a few cans to warm myself up for the first melt of the year, couldn’t even get passed the first team selection of the season LOL.

Hunter being left out is a f***ing joke, especially when everyone has been raving about his pre-season. Piss off Cho and co.

People have to have faith in what the selectors come up with and remember it's not just Richardson selecting the team.
They would of gone with the best side for the game plan they have.

Everyone has there favorites and a couple of mine are not playing , but there would be reasons.

What happens if Acres packs up in the first quarter , knowing he could been underdone but we still played him.
Hunter played in the JLT games , played o'k but why play him if you know he is not up to standard just yet , you could play him in the forward line but where , we already have about 6 smalls in there already.

Lets just look forward to a new game plan and hope Parker , Wilkie , Kent really show us why they are in the team.
Parker is a real marking option in the forwardline , Kent is a massive upgrade on Weller and Wilkie looks like he could be a Gilbert type with a better kick.

This first game will be a big marker to where we are - spots on the team can not be given because you are a high draft pick now , they have to show it on the track and on game day.

I'm looking forward to a couple guys kicking a bag of goals.

And it’s not like we are a top team where the young guys find it hard to break in...

We have an injury list as long as your arm and finished 3rd bottom last year. If a pick 7 and 8 can’t break into this team, you just have to wonder what the hell is going on.

It's not so much the players this time round besides McKenzie who hasn't played all season even the practice match, but rather the team set up.

We are IMO 1 tall player short, and have 1 too many small forwards in the side.

Because they have no one better , did Hunter really show against the Dogs and Roos he really needs to be playing round one.
Hunter will be with us for a long time lets just let the kid develop , would be nothing worse than let him play and he gets demolished by some mid not half as talented as him , which could really destroy his confidence.

I would of liked Hunter to play , even if it was playing as a forward - but then people would be bitching that we left out Parker , Long or Lonie

Holy shit balls some campaigners melt over nothing.

Wilkie has been selected to play 3rd tall defender. I also believe he’ll chop out in the ruck. They decided we looked more dangerous when we had 2 talls versus 3, which from JLT form, I would agree with. Bruce should be able to be permanent forward too.

On my bench, I have an inside mid, outside mid, defender and forward.

Looks like a pretty good squad to me, considering our injuries and minus the inexperience in defense (Brown, Carlisle and Roberton would look a hell of a lot better).

Clark could easily have been picked over Sinclair, but he didn’t dominate JLT (neither did Sinclair). Dunstan outperformed Clark, so no issues there.

McKenzie in over Hind, fair enough, Hind showed glimpses but didn’t dominate preseason. McKenzie top 10 bnf from only just over half a season, they must really rate the role he was playing.

Marshall is probably the most hard done by. I would have selected him over Pierce, but it hardly makes our team much different. Both young and developing.

Melt City! Had to laugh with everyone over the last few days predicting their own melts. You were spot on.

There is no one on the list picked who I think doesn’t deserve to be there. And there are a few outside that are unlucky. With all our injuries that is a good thing surely.

As Hunter Clark’s advocate I am disappointed he’s not playing. He did fade out of both JLT games though. McKenzie if fit deserves to be there. Really like what he did last year and we can use his speed v the Suns who have lots of pace.

So it is down to team balance that everyone is unhappy about. Not been at training so it is hard to tell from the supporter angle how everyone looks. If everyone thinks Richo picks the team on his own you’re mad. The whole match committee would be responsible.

Anyway, onwards and upwards. Looking forward to our first win of the season, and a good showing in terms of game style.

A fit and in form Acres would immediately make this team much more balanced.

Can play inside and outside in the midfield and can also play the 3rd and/or lead-up marking role up forward.

Hopefully he kills it in the VFL and is back in for R2.
