Have to say I quite like our side. It's a new approach. The only changes I'd make are Marshall for Pierce and Clark for Sinclair. Structurally I like it. Our forward line looks quick and exciting. Gresham will definitely go through the midfield. Newnes is named at HB but will play in the middle. McKenzie is a great guy to have in the side, came on leaps and bounds last year. It will be interesting to see how they use him.

I'll also be keeping a close eye on Battle and hope he has a successful start as a backman.

Mav Weller has an AFL body! Just saying is all!

Being hard and buffed is far from the be all and end all when it comes to footy!
Clark playing would hardly have been a case of him being gifted a game! He is one of the few we have that is capable of being elite early!
I personally have thought Clark has been ordinary. If he’s the shining light we are in deep poo.
Guy just disappears for huge blocks and watching some of the jlt can see his chase is sometimes pathetic.
But yes his 15 possessions will destroy GC

2017 National draft:

1. Rayner - Playing
2. A. Brayshaw - Playing
3. Dow - Played
4. LDU - Playing
5. Cerra - Playing
6. Stephenson - Played

7. Clark - Not playing
8. Coffield - Not playing

9. Naughton - Playing
10. O’brien - Not playing

I know there will be some to many that disagree with me but I don’t believe we are much of a chance to break out of the bottom 4 this year.

I’m not sure if it’s us making the constant wrong choice in regards to draftees but 7 of the 8 other kids in the top 10 are all getting the hype, experience and confidence of playing round 1.

Don’t get me wrong I understand everyone needs to earn their spot and just because of a high position pick doesn’t make you a guaranteed starter, but I’d imagine Coffield especially and Clark would be going into the 2019 season as flat as pancakes.

It would make it a lost easier if we were a top 8 team for them to break into but currently we are probably bottom 4 at best.

The second MKing is available for selection and passed fit I want him in the centre of the goalsquare, no more ******* wasting young talent giving them 5 years to build their game, chuck them straight into the deep end.

Were playing Powell and Ballard from last years draft.
Both had really good pre seasons

Not really, like Acres, people get fixated on a player who is basically sub standard.

Doesn't mean he can't improve, but the moaning about a bloke who plays part time ruck ans part time forward, neither very well, is in my opinion extraordinary

I would have imagined that every top ten recruit from 2017 draft would be playing round one 2019 unless injured. I wonder how many others beside our 7& 8 have not got a game. Says a lot for our development doesnt it.

Witts is a mature ruckman and a true ruck man. Marshall is a bits and pieces forward ruck. Witts is their captain or vice captain now, he's not a bad player and smashing the shit out of Rowan isn't going to fast track him. I rate Marshall but he's not ready for a full time ruck role, height isn't everything.

I have no opinion on Pierce v Marshall. I have seen many mention that the worry is that Witts is a huge beast so we need Pierce to try to compete with him. Maybe this is true. However, it is indicative of our reactive back foot approach. How about taking initiative and making Witts worry about chasing a mobile Marshall all over the ground in round 1?

Wilkie or Bruce. Nothing wrong either. Better to pinch hit for 20 minutes a game than to select a player who will have limited time in the ruck and doesn't suit our other structures. If we are picking players based on injury its time to give the game away.

This argument doesn’t hold water with Marshall because he can clearly play ‘outside’ the ruck and could easily slot in as a strong marking forward, or intercepting backman.

Not really. Says they aren’t in any rush. You don’t have to play a lot of games early to end up being a very good player. Steven is a case in point

I don't get how people can't see this!? This whole so and so isn't ready business is rubbish! Blind Freddy can see Hunters talent... successful sides blood kids like him all the time when they are not 'ready'. If he was a mile off it and was going to look stupid out there it would make sense... but that is not the case!
It is the best way for him to learn! From the best in the business! It's not hard to show faith in these kids and the rewards are going to be more offen than not great.
The other arguement I've seen plenty of since selection is the 'match up' 'horses for courses one' surely that cannot be serious... a side in our situation main focus has to be development. We are not going to win the flag. Building a 22 to compete for a flag is the only way to go.
We are at the back of the pack and don't understand how to bridge the gap.
Everyone keeps saying have faith and trust selection... faith and trust doesn't build success. Hard choices and smart decisions do.

This is 100% what I am trying to say.
We select teams like we are top 4.

Hopefully we win and the naysayers on here will say, see selection was correct, but in the long run is that helping the situation? hardly.

Anyways lets go boys, get in and have a crack and hopefully (said with not a lot of confidence to be honest) get the W

thought this game was televised.........seems not
Rumour has it that they are bringing back the old 70's style Slo Mo Six million dollar man version of televised,
With no commentary like the old World of Sport days just for this blockbuster!

The 95% floor makes it pretty difficult for lower teams to only give out good contracts,

Never thought about trading in a guy and overpaying to keep available cap limited enough to only allow provision of value contracts to other players.

Interesting concept

We had no choice but to pay Hanners that amount p.a. as he still had a contract for that amount. He wouldn't have moved to us for a pay cut

Enough sooking about Marshall who we took as a rookie a couple of years ago. More to the point our top ten picks from 2017 cant get a game. Lonie, Newnes, Sinclair, Dunstan, Parker, Kent all get a game before them. I cant see the sense in it.

Well as I said he hasn’t really played back at afl level and at the moment he is an average forward who kicks half a goal a game. And provides little pressure as most talls don’t. They obviously want more pressure and most likely a goal or two over him up forward and 20 minutes in the ruck

Even if they are better and it helps us win the game? Pick number should not guarantee a game

Going to hold fire and see how the team goes before any potential melts by yours truly happen

What if we win by 4 goals plus? Does that mean selection of the team was in fact ok?

I don't think Clark set the world on fire in either JLT game - did some nice things though.

I'm excited that footy is back and we get to watch the mighty red white and black in action tomorrow afternoon. Want to see some quality ball movement like we saw at times during the JLT and no injuries (especially to Pierce lol)!!!!

Ummm.......they are playing better
And some of those players have different positions?
