Sitting there from the mid tier seats today, I saw some utterly inexplicable leading patterns from our forwards. Lost count the amount of times we had two players leading to the exact same spot. It's not like it was kids like Fog or Himmelberg. It was Jenkins and Betts leading to the same spot, or Tex and Lynch. Sure you can have bad games, or be outclassed on a day, and Clarkson had a clear plan, but things like leading patterns stick out like dogs balls and are concerning from senior players.

Eddie I'll give a break, the Hawks have always managed to negate him throughout his career and he did show some signs of urgency today.

The other 2..... more cooked than my lunch.
I saw Josh Jenkins lay three tackles today...I saw him play up the ground a fair bit too. Tex was worn like a glove and somehow hawks had two on him most of the time. And hawks also just clog up our arteries. They are like solid ****ing cheese!

Interesting correlation between Contested Possession and Inside 50's differentials (second half)

I thought our much heralded half back line was terrible. They made some really bad mistakes early which saw them go completely into their shell.

There was zero drive and attack from there which resulted in slow movement, rushed kicks and increased pressure. It was just hard work moving the ball up the ground.

Its games like these where the lack of class really shows.

I actually don't blame the forwards for this one.
The half back line is where it broke down.
Forwards gave nothing. Knight was ordinary, he is ordinary. Murphy was awful.

My daughter's got a stronger constitution than me. Despite the loss and the generally putrid performances, she's already looking forward to going back for the next home game. Oh to have the innate positivity of a 4 year old.

My 2 cents on Keath. Overall, he was very much involved and stopped many advances, but he had several weak disposals, much like Hartigan's MO. For example, he was directly responsible for the oppo's first goal. On several other occasions, he didn't look as though he knew what to do (not alone there). To his great credit, he kept presenting regardless and improved as the game wore on. (I stopped watching halfway through the third, so can't comment on the (irrelevant) later period.

So, I'm between the two polar Keath assessments on here, but maybe more realistic.
Watch the replay. We would have lost by 10 goals without him. Focus on players that cost us the game, not players who kept the margin from being bigger.

Tex when he did actually moved, moved into the path of his own players which took the space away.

-Good
Keath
Sloane
Crouch’s

-Bad
Doedee’s knee

-****n deplorable
Mackay
Douglas
Our movement out of defence from a behind
Atkins.. did **** all again
Stupid handballs
Lynch still trying his ridiculous cute short kicks
Eddie still trying for mark of the year leaving no one to pick up the crumbs and the hawks just ran away with it
Murphy.. did he even get a possession?... think he missed every tackle he tried.
Mackay...
tex... although the delivery into our forward line was woeful.
Taking McPherson over Worpel... I remember being laughed at by many when I suggested Worpel with our second pick in 2017. Will McPherson even make it?.. seems he’s one more injury away from delisting.

Well at least we didn't have to wait till later in the year to get the Hawthorn embarrassing loss out of the way this year! Clarkson must rub his hands together when he sees us on the fixture. They play the same game plan against us every time and we never have a plan to overcome it.

Thought Crouch x2, Keath and Sloane were our best. Jones did a few nice things but didn't get much of it, hopefully they persist with him but wouldn't surprise me if they drop him unfortunately.

Our forward line looks so slow and one dimensional, I know the delivery was awful but Jenkins got caught out behind so many times. We seriously lack any X-Factor in there (or anywhere TBH) with Gov and Cameron both gone we are so slow there now and very predictable. Would love to see Fog come back in to crash some packs.

Not panic stations yet but we need to see a drastic improvement next week.

Your giving the club a free pass here. You dont hang onto average players regardless who leaves. That ****s your culture number 1.
Number 2 is why are we more than any other club losing elite talent? Don't mention adelaide. Nothing to do with it. More to do with players who aren't stupid and knowing when an organisation is rotten to the core and looks after their mates. Looking at you Mark Riccuito.
3. Coaches. You create a good program they come. Don't give me this adelaide crap. It's weak excuses like this that gets the club nowhere.
Yep.....I agree with that too. It’s been a terribly managed club for decades.

The main thing is the players are having fun and Happy:rolleyes: What a terrible display we put on today. I can only hope it gets better but I can't see it myself.

We've been through this a million times before. Just responding next week and puffing the chest out on that response is not good enough and will get us nowhere. It has got us nowhere before.

We need to fix and change it or we will continue to fail with handling bigger games or pressure. You have to handle the heat to get in a position to challenge. Then you need to handle a month of real heat, consistently, to win the whole thing. We aren't reliable enough to scrape through a whole September without tripping up somewhere, unless we get very lucky that we pass our due date of putting up a shit game.

And surely all the games it has happened in over the recent years don't need to be brought up again? It is a trend, not an event.
Sorry must have missed the part where is said do nothing lol. There should be certain players made examples of (hopefully). But i also expect us to respond from today effort. Even with that group that played today i except better.
Think we are all getting a touched carried away after one game.

What do you suggest sack everyone and start again? lol

Taking no responsibility obviously makes you very happy until your delisted.

“Hi,
My name’s Ben and I like long walks on the beach and having no f*cking idea what’s going on when it comes to coaching football on either a micro or macro level.”

I agree with you on those things especially on Knight and Murphy.

But I think what actually killed us was our half back line. Everything flows from there.

Our defenders worked their arses off, released to the half backs, then they and the mids distributed terribly or bombed it long.

The Good: i won $240 on a Port/Hawks multi today from a $20 bet. I put that bet on 2weeks ago. Crows are too predictable and Hawthorn have owned us for a decade... Same $ hit different year... nothing will change with pathetic club.

Bad: Doedee's ACL season over injury.. our forward line entry, Tex and JJ were MIA

Ugly...the turnovers, happy handball and the fact we are now looking at a 0-4 start IMO

Disappointed like everyone but not totally surprised. Had said to my son earlier today that I wasn’t as confident as I was the last two games because Clarko has our measure. Because they’d won the last four at AO and 9 out of the last 10. He is an exceptional coach. But what I saw today was almost identical to GF day. Where all most every single player had a bad game on the same day. The coaches too. It was like the nerves were contagious, like the panic moved from player to player unabated, and there was absolutely nothing any of them could do to stop it. You could see the look on Pykes face, on the players faces even - this wasn’t what we’ve spent all preseason practicing, and it certainly wasn’t the game plan we’d played in the JLT. And they were powerless to stop it. I refuse to condemn them on the back of one game, and I am almost positive they will come out in a different mindset next week, but their biggest challenge will be to honestly assess their game plan against relentless pressure because it clearly doesn’t work. They must ask the hard questions.

Obviously you don't get it..... lol....

I pointed out that responding doesn't mean shit if we continue to puff out the chest "well, we responded" and then go back to serving up this sort of garbage. Which has been the cycle for a few years now.

I’m calling it early.
We will roll Sydney next week. We will play an ‘inspirational brand of football’ against a list with a similar age profile and a coaching group with a similar stubborn persistence for a broken game plan and all will be forgiven. The cracks will be papered over and nothing will be said again about the Hawthorn game.

Until it happens again when we play them next...

Smith and Laird were very average under pressure today, Smith looked panicked and Laird's high loopy kicks under pressure were easily knocked off by the Hawks. A majority of our players just did not stand up to the Hawks high pressure which they brought on steroids.
