Prediction Changes vs Carlt’n

We should be safe with regard to Marshall staying in the team, unless he's concussed, in which case Howard or Frampton should replace him to maintain our forward structure.

I really liked Marshall's game yesterday. He looked sharp from the outset, and although his stats were still modest, he impacted on numerous contests and was an important link in a couple of crucial goals, most notably Butters first goal and Westhoff's fourth goal. That was his best contribution of all the matches he's played so far this year.

Our forward line looks much more dangerous now than at any time last year. Clearly most people will rightly point to the change in game-style with quicker ball movement and overlap run, as the main reason. IMO we are also benefiting from not having 1-2 main targets down there that the opposition are drawn to. Even when Gray is down there, we're not looking to use him exclusively.

Rozee and Butters provide the agilty and speed that was missing from Wingard's forward game of the last 2 years, while their ball handling and skill execution is cleaner than Sam Gray or Johnson's. Brad Ebert impacts on so many contests. He is going to pluck more of those high marks the longer the year goes on; he looks so dangerous when he is one-out in the goal square with the ball coming in long - his hands just need to be stronger to complete the mark when he feels body contact.

The commentators were also spot on about Westhoff. Keeping him forward for longer is doing wonders for us. His form throughout JLT was strong. He is marking cleanly at the highest point and his set-shot goal kicking is much better than usual.

I suspect Ryder will also have more of a presence forward as the season rolls on. Which brings me once again to questioning where exactly Charlie Dixon fits into all of this. I'm unconvinced that his presence makes us a better team. At his best, absolutely. But his best is so rarely seen that it can't be at all assumed. Given his typical output, it's debatable whether he's first 22.

Personally if Wines is ready, I’m make him an example of and bring him back for one week via the reserves, this shows too all players coming back from injury in the 2nds isn’t a bad thing.

Only natural changes
DBJ for Hart’s but he needs another game.
Wines for one of Rockliff, Boak, Ebert, SPP Drew. If we are fair dinkum in holding out shape and structures.

I agree IF he played like Marshall as a lead up forward yes, but he doesn’t.

DBJ.
Drew would be stiff and I'm not sure having Pig Ollie and SPP isn't one too many but SPP isn't getting dropped. Drew is ok outside and see what happens.
Drew did play at half back at the beginning of his career.

Agree, hold structure. Bringing Wines back through the twos is a big call, but not necessarily a bad one.

On yesterday’s game it’s SPP to go. Can’t drop Boak or Rockliff which means it SPP or Drew.

Drew did nothing wrong and was impressive on debut. Peps with 10 score involvements was messy with 7 clangers. He could have had 3 goals and if he did would be safe as houses and Drew would have to go. But he didn’t, Says a bit about competition for spots, if your off by a small bit that’s all it takes to lose your spot.

It's hard to see what happens if Ollie is ready this week, but it's a great problem to have.

In previous years, we would all be expecting the easy option (Out: Marshall (concussion) In: Wines) that pays no attention to position. But with the change in gameplan, I'm hoping we're sticking to our structures more. So if Marshall does miss, Frampton or Howard should come in.

As for Wines, they clearly think Drew can play more of an outside role, so he isn't necessarily just covering and is straight out. It's hard to see who else it would be though. It won't be a defender, so DBJ stays in. The balance of backs is good at the moment, and they'll already be looking at one to come out for Hartlett in a few weeks. It's probably between DBJ and Bonner at this stage, which hopefully gets the best out of them over the new few weeks.

We need pace on the outside, so we shouldn't be dropping a fast outside player for Ollie, unless Amon played a stinker leaving no choice, which he didn't. Rockliff and Boak are locked in, and while SPP has some work to do, he's not dropping out this week. Ebert moving forward also takes him out of the equation, so that really only leaves Drew. Unless they want to push him more outside and make Duursma the unlucky one, but I don't see that happening. Definitely won't be Butters and won't be Rozee, who is playing a forward role.

The good news is, dropping a form player should keep everyone else on their toes. Assuming whoever it is goes back and has a strong SANFL game, the team knows he's straight back in if someone has a bad game or two. That's a good position to be in, and I can't remember the last time we were genuinely there.

Yes and no, I said the same thing.

To me He is one of those type of players that you realise what he does when he is not in the team. Like 8 possies from him is worth more than 20+ from others.
Motlop is a very valuable player with a history of good finals performances.
No argument.
Just want to see a bit more of him.

Who comes out for Ollie then

You can't drop an outside runner for an inside stoppage player like Wines. We were really good on the spread yesterday so why would we take that strength away. It might look good on paper Wines for Duursma but it would be ridiculous for team balance.

When Wines comes in it will be for either Drew or SPP.

Coming off a good win my current view is...'NO UNFORCED CHANGES'! regardless of your name. Ollie should bide his time in the 2's until a spot opens up due to availability or performance that demands he be picked. Would send a strong message to the team (AND Ollie) that selection is based on performance, and let's face it Ollie's performance last year after signing a contract extension was somewhat underwhelming.

Dixon comes in for Ebert for me. Dixon as a forward > Ebert as a forward. The thought of our forward line with Dixon, Marshall and Ryder, with Hoff streaming down on from the wing does things to me.

Wines is our most dominant Midfeilder and captain. He does not bide his time in the twos, if he were to come back through the magpies it’s simply to prove his fitness.

I think it's more a question of his shoulder than his fitness. He had a whole pre-season and only missed a few weeks of training.

I'd prefer his shoulder gets the time it needs and we don't rush him back too quickly. I think another week wouldn't be a bad thing.

If Ollie plays in the SANFL, it'll be purely an issue of lack of match conditioning, not some kind of message.

I think we'll play Ollie but limit his TOG, which means we'll need to keep Drew in. Duursma unlucky.

Sends a strong message to this group, that were backing em in to get the job done without Wines. That we don’t need to rush him back.

I actually look at it that he WAS 'our most dominant Midfielder' (last year) - so far this year he has not proved himself. Therefore I'm not sure why we would risk weakening a team that has just come off a good win by swapping out a performing player for one who is unproven and coming off a significant injury, but respect your opinion.

With the form of the team so far I would may be make one change, that being Howard but not sure who would drop out. Our players coming back from injuries like Hammer probably need a few games at the Magpies for fitness.
