As of this moment I am staying strong, backing in Dunkley and Williams and Smith and Heeney and trading Collins and Blata out for Schultz and Wilkie (or any defender who gets named).

I planned for a reason, mid pricers are mid priced for a reason and we'll see if they can turn this one game into two and i'll have another think.

Given the forward rookies went better than expected and the mid priced backline didn’t go all that well I’m looking at a bit of a restructure this week.

Billings -> Schultz
Ridley -> Sicily/Whitfield

Improves cash generation because Schultz’s hefty negative BE should see him make more cash than Ridley in the short term (and possibly score higher as well). Also confident that Sic/Whit can outscore Billings. The man had the perfect role and still only managed 84... seriously what was I thinking?

Against GC as well....

This is looking like my most sensible trade. Darling is the weakest point in my team, has the highest BE from the players that I’m iffy about.

I’m willing to give Zwilliams and all of my midfield (cogs, Taranto, brayshaw, Bcrouch, libba and walsh) another look. Dont really want to make a knee jerk reaction to get rocky and do sideways trades or give up future cash generation (eg libba)

Thoughts?

I think your thinking is the smartest way to go.

I am in the same boat midfield wise. Macrae, Coniglio, Cripps, B.Crouch, Sheed, Libba, Cousins and Walsh (Scott/Constable)
Rocky may come out with another 140 plus score this week, but he may also score closer to 100.

It is a hard call to make, but at this point I think I am going to have to focus on some rookie fix ups or maybe a backline or Dunkley fix as opposed to tinkering with my midfield which actually performed solidly.

Not sure what trades will look like:

People I am unhappy with

Gawn - Should find touch, likely hold but annoyed I paid up.
Grundy - looked tired and showed signs of no preseason, Likely to be in top rucks by seasons end but a trade ok while he leaks cash is possible.
Williams - looked proppy end of game but no word, Low score, Newman and Houli look better around his price.
Gibbons - Fix up to Constable
Atkins - same as Gibbons.
Darling - Started well, likely to be better in Perth and less slippery, Worried West Coast are too tall though.
Burgess - General potatoness

People I am considering bringing in

Coniglio - Looks great, still no Kelly but mids going well and likely not the best long term move with money and decent rookie options.
Constanble - Chose Atkins and Gibbons, Could fix one up here.
Parker - Chose Burgess forward seems like the obvious fix up.
Newman - Add beef to backline if Williams injured
Houli - Same as Newman
Burton - Big fall last year and looked pretty good on weekend.

In a similar boat to some others in that it doesn't seem right offloading Brouch or Libba for rockliff.
I have enough spare cash to upgrade Crouch but he could average 100 anyway.

2 awful games by Collins, a long way from the 110VFL average so I'll be doing something there.

Rocky has Carlton & Brisbane next 2.
Then Ollie Wines, Richmond, West Coast.

I am very confused over what to do this week.

Scored 2121 which while not being absolutely terrible, was a pretty big drop off from other top scoring teams.

Had the C on Macrae, and own Cogs, so that's a loss of about 50 or so points just there. Also don't own Rocky or Boak.

Can anybody see an obvious player to upgrade/downgrade to Rocky in my midfield?

Macrae (107), Brayshaw (100), Cripps (101), B.Crouch (109), Sheed (133), Liberatore (87), Cousins (98), Walsh (87)

Bench - Scott (97), Constable (82).

Libba is probably the one that stands out for me, but he was solid enough for his price. I don't want to totally gut my team to get in Rocky after one week if he's only going to sit around the 100 mark for the rest of the year.

The most obvious place I can find the cash to go Liberatore to Rocky which is $238k is from my heavily mid price forward line.

Dangerfield (103), Dunkley (79), Worpel (101), Higgins (83), Elliot (79), Setterfield (71)

Bench - Drew (86), Balta (29).

I guess the most obvious move would be a Higgins or Elliot down to Parker (field Drew) and then Libba up to Rocky.

I am a little hesitant to do that though, given I took a risk in the forwards with the mid pricers and while Higgins and Elliot didn't set the world on fire, they both scored well enough to make money and I would love to roll with them for at least another week.

At the moment I feel I could go two ways with trades.

Option 1 - Higgins/Elliot to Parker and then Libba to Rocky. Changes my forward line structure and means I still keep Balta.

Option 2 - Keep my same structure and go Dunkley to Boak and then Balta to Parker. Gives me Drew and Parker on the fwd bench.

I think Rocky would still be gettable next week if I made a similar trade with a fwd mid pricer and Libba.

Thoughts?

Chase the cash in the early parts of the season. Balta to Parker ✅. Dunkley to boak don’t mind at all

Don’t normally do this, but dumbfound on what trades to do.

DEF: Laird, Lloyd, Smith, Williams, Duursma, Clark (Hore, Wilkie)

MID/RUC: Fine, don’t want to trade anyone.

FWD: Danger, Kelly, Billings, Setterfield, Drew, Balta (Burgess, Brander). 43k in the kitty. In bold are the players on the chopping block.

I have a couple options;

1: Burgess to Parker & Billings to Worpel
2: Williams to Newman & Billings to Worpel
3: Burgess to Parker & Brander/Hore to 170k rookie

Surely Macmillan getting the injury cross is a conspiracy.
He played out the game, nothing in match report..
Are the traders behind that ;)

Early thoughts are Williams -> Wilkie (and bring Scrimshaw onto the ground and move wilkie to bench).
Libba -> Rocky.

Tough though, potentially sacrificing a lot of cash gen with Libba based off 1 score from Rocky. Especially when it's not out of the question that Libba outscores Rocky occasionally.

But the fomo is just too intense.

Also have Dunkley/Heeney that I'm very disappointed with but willing to give them another week to see the trend.

I missed all the big scorers rnd1 (Coniglio/Rocky) which has crushed my ranking early (~20k) with a score of 2044 but on the plus side I couldn't have gotten my crop of rookies better if i tried (I've got all of Duursma/Clark/Scrimshaw/Walsh/Constable/Scott/Cousins/Parker/Drew/Setterfield). Pretty confident the foundation is there... just need Rocky in to stem the bleeding.

All my moves point to the same to get Rocky, as libba is the one to get chopped. Id like to turn Billings into Rocky but finding it hard to make it work. So as you said the Move seems to be Williams - Wilkie and Libba to Rocky, which i dont want to really get rid of Libba as has alot of cash to generate but if Rocky goes 140 then suddenly at 700K and alot harder to get in. Decisions...

Really thinking I need to stay strong and hold onto Williams and Ridley for one more week, there’s no way Essendon will be that bad again and trading to Clark gives me next to no upside, still think Ridley has the potential to go 75... Williams gets one more week. Only have 22k left over aswell and really want to get rid of Burgess and Gibbons. Thinking of Burgess to Wilkie (unless a young debutant is potentially named) and Gibbons to Schultz via DPP... makes me feel more confident about my bench. Hopefully there is a young debutant named because really, Wilkie doesn’t interest me a heap...

In the same boat. I paid up and picked my rookies carefully this year but because they've all come off well, I have nowhere to pivot to besides sideways trading.

Williams downgrade and Libba upgrade looks like my go.

Hi all. Thoughts on the backline?
I am dumping Ryan Clarke but I am not sure whether to target Sicily, Salem or Houli. Anyone have any strong opinions here?
Also do you stick with Brodie Smith and Williams (depending on injury news ofc) or move them on too?

I’d target Sicily out of them three, very good chance to be a top 6 defender at seasons end, there is some nice value in Houli and Salem though, I personally like Salem and think this could be his breakout but if Sicily is an option than I’d certainly go him.

If my reactionary mid price trades after the first round over the past few years are anything to go by, then Smith/Williams will score 90+ this week and Salem/Houli will gets 60’s.

I wouldnt recommend Gibbons to Schultz. Gibbons didn't go great but his JS is good and he may yet increase in scoring. Worth another week at the very least.

Also if Linc the Stink didnt start with -9 in the first quarter his score would be a passable, still made cash but 4 goals to do it is alarming

Agree. But I started the year asking of a 65+ average from Linc for 5-6 weeks... so I can't knock the guy for 67. I'm prepared to wait a few weeks to see how he goes but I might field Parker this week over him and relegate him to the bench. 4 goals to get to 67 is certainly alarming.
