Gibbs given his pay packet, seniority, reputation and known ability is the one player that really needs to take a good long hard look at himself in the mirror after his performance on the weekend. If the weekend's game is an indicator I'm really starting to worry he's just going to coast along for the next few years until his contracts expires and then ride off into the sunset. I saw no urgency or leadership whatsoever from Bryce on the weekend.....I hope it's just a once off or we're in real trouble there.

I pointed this out a couple of days ago: I'm also most worried about Gibbs. The thing is that it's not a one-off: he played identically in JLT2, no drive, and mainly weak disposals going straight to the oppo in both matches, this from a long-kick competition winner!
I'm hoping that he will recover from what ails him, as he will be the first dropped if he keeps this up.

Are you kidding? I saw him a number of times doing that thing where he thinks he is Wayne Milera and holds onto the ball until he has run into the middle of three or four oppo players and then gets pinged HTB and has that stupid look on his face like he didn't expect that to happen again.
What pissed me off were the times when he chose not to take possession of the ball himself, because he didn't want to be tackled. Instead, he chose to allow his opponent to gather the ball, before laying a (frequenly ineffective) tackle of his own. When it's your turn to win the ball, you put your body on the line - and he squibbed it. He's the softest Adelaide player I've seen since Luke Jericho.

Things i notice in the stats:

Doedee at 100% when he goes down. Says it all.
Tom Lynch, our HB -> HF link player... 2 i50s all game.
Gibbs, 16 disposals at 62.5% with 7 tackles - WTF were you doing?
Atkins, 10 i50s, more than twice as many as anyone else... if i say our entry into F50 was terrible, is that your fault? or bad forward running patterns?
Douglas, 15 disposals at 47% with 2 points? Just **** off. People want to claim your 250 games of experience, is important, then why did our debutant have a more influential game?

And p.s., stop ****ing jogging past on the wing in front of me when there's a contest you could impact, it's ****ing disgraceful. If you don't want to put the effort in, you want to be a millionaire, seriously **** off and quit, I'm not interested in the Richard Douglas 22 Game Retirement Tour.

31 touches, 10 inside50s and over 600m gained would suggest he's not in our top dozen issues currently.

We're starting to accumulate a nice little stable of players who get heaps of ball and do nothing with it.

The meters gained frequently go straight back over their heads with interest.

Still no stat for effective meters gained after all these years

With all our mids in Dougie was playing Gibbs role. It should be Gibbs as that secondary attacking mid after B Crouch.

I though Gibbs looked a bit lost after virtually carrying the midfield last year.

Hoping with Dougie out, is he out with that ankle, Gibbs takes that spot back.

Said a few times last week Dougie should be out of the side. There is no room for both he and Gibbs IMO.

Yes Gibbs was extremely ordinary, however this was because he was sent into defence to cover for Doedee. He had no idea what to do, and was completely useless. Prior to that, he had 7 possessions and 6 tackles and I thought was one one the few mids that was going hard at the man. Putting him into defence made our midfield AND defence weaker. That's on the coaches, particularly after they tried it and it was obvious it wasn't working.

How many of these metres gained are long bombs to a contest or straight to the opposition? We have only leading forwards and put it loopy on their heads to disadvantage. We were by the goals and watched it loop in blindly over and over and over. Son got pretty frustrated that they could be so rubbish and he's 11.

I feel bad for your son knowing what his future as a crows fan will hold.

Dude, you're completely taking the personal element out of footy, which is easy to do on a football forum. You create a club where people are disregarded and thrown away at the first sign of decline and you create a club players don't have any interest being at.
Bullshit. Players don't leave hawthorn. They lineup to be a part of it. Hawthorn is the most ruthless club in the league and guess what? They are the most successful

I tore my 3 month old sons Adelaide socks off and put on his Hawthorn ones his pop got him. At least he can experience what it's like to win big games and premierships, I won't subject him to life as an Adelaide supporter.

Can a form slump run for 12-18 months though? After that time I’d be considering calling it something more permanent.

I said it before the season started Tex needed to turn around 2018 go look at the thread most on here were saying Tex was good to go and no concerns what so ever

Lets be honest half the reason we finished 12th in 2017 and it will happen again as we don't have a replacement and JJ Is so so and a joe the goose

Atkins is the type of player Malcolm Blight would despise.

Hawthorn didn't force anyone out, they happily let them go in the twilight's of their career for greater opportunities. There is a difference.

Lance Franklin says hi, Jordan Lewis says hi, Matthew Suckling says hi, Taylor Duryea says hi, Bradley Hill says hi......

Lance Franklin says hi

then he tearfully says, can you let me back to the club so i can be part of the 2014 and 2015 premierships? please?

had the balls to get rid of the biggest player in the game... and then won another two flags without him

Cmon Bicks, all those guys left after Hawthorn’s 3-peat (with the exception of Buddy, who left after two, for a nine-year contract).

And Jordan Lewis (+ Sam Mitchell) didn’t leave, they were politely shown the door as part of the Hawks’ rebuilding program after the 3-peat, a strategy which netted them O’Meara and Tom Mitchell.

It’s not in any way comparable to the embarrassing mass exodus of players out of Adelaide, with zero success to boot.

C'mon Pete....
All of Franklin, Suckling and Hill were best 22 when they left and Duryea very, very close to it.

Franklin left for a once in a generation contract. I’ll give you that one...just.

The others left when the club was at the very top of the mountain, or had just begun it’s slide back down. You cannot compare leaving after helping the club win three premierships, with the sort of leaving that has happened at Adelaide.

Really?? It was clear at the time that the instigator of the departures was Clarkson. He invited several senior players in for a man-chat, and suggested that they might like to consider trying their luck elsewhere. Mitchell took the hint, Lewis took it belatedly. Clarko has also had the man-chat with Roughy this year: he's not a slave to sentiment.

It is very interesting to imagine what might happen right now if Clarko were the Crows' coach! Perhaps, several of the elderly suspects panned here would be called in for their man-chats? ;)

I'm sure Hawthorn were left reeling at the departures of Matthew Suckling and Brad Hill after winning three premierships in a row.

And they would have been devastated to gain Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O'Meara, Chad Wingard, Tom Scully, Jack Scrimshaw, Jarman Impey, and Ricky Henderson who are all best 22 players

Relax we got Dean Gore for Dangerfield.

And Brad Hill left for the very same reason we lose players!

Given the bulk of the players drafted is heavily weighted to Victorian TAC kids and has been so for decades now but people just want choose it's not a factor in regard to our retention vs the Hawks and other Vic based teams.. Don't recall us losing too many of our SA draftees to Victorian clubs?
