Just reading in the paper Bassett say that Karl "quit the club last post-season".

I wasn't aware it actually got to that stage.

It adds another bow to a pretty remarkable journey for Amon.

I for one had written him off after last year but if he keeps going like he did on Saturday he will well and truly prove me wrong.

There's a long way to go buts it's a great start for Karl.

I think maybe Jarrad Schofield might have something to do with it, as he has certainly turned things around. Hope it continues.

Not sure about a remarkable journey, unless you count getting into 40 game territory without any real contribution to the team ever. Still not Damon White but was getting there.
As of the end of 2018 I still have it in my head that he was offered for trade and if I'm right about that the footy world must have given him up as a failed player, as had I and any Port fans I know.
So something (who knows what?) happens and this year he can play!
I'd love to know where the Clayton's quitting fits in and if he changed his mind before it took effect or whether he was talked out of it, and even by whom if so. Astonishing really that he had a contract through to this year. If it had expired in 2018 would we have tried to get him to stay?

Remarkable in that to even play AFL after having 5 hip surgeries between 5 and 8 years old is an amazing story.

He just looks so much better this season. Has clearly added a few kgs and it's giving him a lot more confidence in the clinches. I have a lot of faith this will be a breakthrough year for him.

Was really impressed with his game on the weekend. That second quarter was the best football he has played. Hardness at the contest and tackling to go with foot skills. Now to back it up.

He quit the club and no one even picked up the phone to talk a trade.

It’s the last year of his contract so let’s see what he does. If the penny has dropped then there’s a place for him in the best 22 moving forward. If this is simply just a way of making sure he can continue his career elsewhere...that’s fine too, because we’ll actually get something decent for him if he keeps playing like that.

I'm not afraid to write players off, but Amon is one I have held out hope for, because he has shown enough in glimpses to convince me that with consistency of opportunity, he can deliver. Let's hope he can build on the round 1 performance.

I said it in the podcast and in the review thread, but my best Amon moment of the weekend was when he got a blatant high tackle and just turned and got the handball out to a teammate on the outside.

That’s what gets you respect from teammates - not finishing off work, but doing the work yourself when it’s your turn.

Yep if guys on the periphery like Karl are playing well it’s likely the team as a whole is performing. It really is win/win even if he still wants to go at season’s end.

Always been a fan of him as a bloke, but a hater of his selection... Can actually see some promising signs though now - really hoping he breaks out this year - he basically has to for both himself and the club if either is to succeed

Would be stoked for him if he turns this season into a breakout season. His first couple of seasons I loved some of the stuff he did and even thought some things he did were Wanganeen like. Obviously been a very inconsistent and annoying player the last couple of season but would absolutely love to see him succeed.

Its been 1 week guys....
Give it time before we make any judgments if a player has turned the corner.
Dont forget young. 1 brilliant season then back to his average self.
Amon tried to leave, realised nobody seriously wanted him and only has 1 year left of security before he is out of a job. I expect him to lift this year out of self preservation, but im not sold that after 1 round he will be a lock in our best 22 for the next 5 years
