Man gets convicted of paedophilia and sent to jail and has done his time.

Paid the set price for his crime - yes
Should continue to be actively punished - no
Should be persecuted - no
Should get ongoing help and treatment - yes
Should be granted mercy on recidivism - pfft
Should be allowed to run a child Care centre - hell no

Mr Hird, whatever his flaws, features, and fame, has been in a position where given the choice between honour and the lives of young men explicitly in his care vs win at any cost, personal glory/reputation and personal financial gain tossed his men and his club repeatedly under the bus.

I would no more put him back in that position than I would give an alcoholic a pub or a paedophile a kindergarten. Yes there are stories of people who have undergone intense personal transformations and come out different people but since Sir James is still in I did nothing wrong mode we can scratch that off the list.

Even those who believe that he was simply taking the team down the same path he himself walked as a player ... well that is even worse as that would make him a career long habitual cheat.

I get that the game was a big part of his life ... but so was alchohol or gaming etc for others ...

I'm rehashing old ground but seeing it's the current topic, there was plenty of blame to go around at Essendon during that sorry saga and the one IMO who got off virtually scot-free and is right near the top of the blame list is Dr Bruce Reid, the ones I saw and still do as down near the bottom of that list is the players.

At the time it was said that they hid the program from him and when he got suspicious and asked what was going on the lied to him and said nothing.

Appaerently. Though they are all clearly liars

You will be having these injections (no you don't need to know what) ... oh and you will be having them off-site ... oh and you can't talk to the club doctor about it ... oh and you have to make sure that you don't record it anywhere on your ASADA forms ...

Nothing suspicious or dodgy looking there at all ... although I do hold Jobe Watson (aka poster child for cheating scumbag) more accountable than some others but even the concientious objectors (eg the guy with the tattoos who was afraid if needles) didn't speak of what they knew and closed ranks for years...

Doesn’t sound dodgy at all??????

When I was 16 I mentioned to my Coach one day that I was sore and couldn’t train as hard as I should because I was stuffed.
He organised for me to see a masseur in Capalaba which was relatively close to where I lived.
When I got there it was in a house on a large property with lots of Horses?
Started the massage, got to talking, he asked me why I was there, told him my history he then proceeded to offer me some pills ‘completely legal’ were his words??? Told me they are made from Horse Hormones and will help with recovery, can train harder and recover quicker? This pricked my ears straight away and I couldn’t get out of there quick enough and never spoke another word about it. (He freaked me out and scared the shit out of me, I was shaking so much and the whole thing was on my mind for ages).
This was in the mid 80’s and I had heard before then, that Horse hormones were the main ingredient in Steriods at the time!
I brought this up to my Mother about 15 yrs later and she proceeded to tell me that the same Coach had offered some pills to her for me to take and she flat out said ‘NO’!
He told her that I will never ‘make it’ without taking them because everyone else does. She once again said ‘NO’!
He never asked again.
And I never quite ‘made it’ unfortunately!

I was really struck by that section in 'The Straight Dope' where Chip Le Grand mounted his case that the players had nothing to answer for, and had acted impeccably.

The basis of his argument was that they'd asked for an extra presentation from Dank, and Stewart Crameri talked to his mum about it. That's it.

The evidence clearly doesn't support the conclusion.

We're all guilty of wilful ignorance from time to time, but some times are worse than other times. This was bad wilful ignorance. They received consistent information about their own responsibilities. These are relatively well paid adults who really do have access to support networks. Every single one of them made a choice not to get outside advice.

I posted numerous times on the main board about the player responsibility on this at the time it was playing out, I was in the minority of course except for Bombers supporters. I don't really want to get into a deep discussion/argument about it but my point put as succinctly as I can is-

In a team environment IMO the vast majority of players would take the word of the club staff/coaches that said supplements were fine. I couldn't imagine a player at the time (maybe now) asking for a sample of said supplements and taking it to an independent lab for analysis, massive group think and toeing the "company" line would go on in dynamics like that. The vast majority of the blame lays at the top and then trickles down although the players certainly bear a portion of it.

YouTube really needs to sort out its recommended algorithms to be a bit more intelligent about the content.

I can see why if I watch a bunch of football videos that I might be interested in another channel also showing football content, but not when one channel is the team I support and the recommended channel is CollingwoodFC.

Get farked, YouTube.

At the rate players are doing their ACLs in the past couple of weeks some teams might struggle to get 22 players out on the park by the end of the season.

Wow, the week 2 ratings for The Footy Show are diabolical.

9 will have to pull the plug entirely. Terminal.

163k across two cities? That is utterly abysmal. More people tuned in for what was presumably a repeat episode of Law and Order. More pay tv subscribers tuned in to watch Gogglebox on Lifestyle. I give it two weeks tops. Just end it.

Tomorrow night is gonna be a belter. God I wish they had Thursday footy all season.

By Wednesday the media are on already their third lap around on the same old stories from the previous round. Keep the real stuff coming.

I’d take Thursday night and Monday night!

Gold Coast's 2017 draftee Will Powell's family moved to the Gold Coast last year.

That's two Gold Coast draftees who's families have moved State to live in the city where their son plays footy.

Lessens the go home factor somewhat for them.

Seems like Richmond got a bit unlucky. Counted about three times where the ball bounced terribly when they were running forward
