There is a lot of fan fiction in this statement.
Not really. The selections are there to be seen, as are the videos, including one of Cho stating that he prefers to back his winning team (development??). Whilst the White discussion is pure conjecture at this stage, it is the definitely same discussion as last year.

Your commentary about how Richo never liked Dmac until that Gold Coast game and DMac "blanking" him after the game and now he is "now jesus" to Richo is just something you have made up to suit your own narrative. And this whole selecting players to save his job thing is nonsense as well. He, and the rest of the selection committee, are selecting the best available players to help us win - which is what every coaching panel should be doing.

Also your suggestion White has put the "cue in the rack" because he has a head coach is chasing to "suffocate his life dream of playing AFL" is also completely nonsense. If White is making the decision to not work hard enough because he hasn't been selected to play AFL off average at best VFL form and a lack lustre preseason, then it's his own fault he isn't being selected. Games aren't going to just be handed to him.

Im thinkin we will go in unchanged tbh, RoMa on the big ground over there ahead of an un-match-fit Longer surely.

Maybe this means no selection melts this week??

My suggestions on White began with an "if", but I'll go back and highlight it for better reading. But "if" the kid asked to be traded then he's lost belief, no question.
And so far as selecting a team to win, circumstances dictate that it's necessary right now, but if Cho's ares wasn't on the line then we'd still be in development mode.

There is no correlation at all this year between hits outs wins and clearances. We won the last time we played Melbourne in spite of billy. I can’t believe people are happy to change a forward set up just to play a guy who only real asset is to hit the ball and get in the way

And max rucked against Stanley last week who is similar to Marshall. How did the 6 6 6 rule work in that game?

Melbourne had over 70 inside 50s against Geelong, it’s not Max Gawns fault that all the entries were shit. Hit outs mean more than you think.

Although in saying that, I agree with you that I’d rather have Marshall than Longer. I prefer the around the ground work.

St Kilda and proud.

richo has already stated that longer will go through the VFL

I know some players have believed that Richo plays favourites with poor form and doesn't give certain players any chances regardless of form. I'm sure all coaches play favourites, I remember Stuv saying he thought Watters was "a legend" because he gave him games. Armo was on the outer with Ross Lyon too.

yes unless he knows both boys personally just alot of hot air.

It's someone trying to guess scenarios. Big footy would be pretty boring if only insiders with facts commented.

Exactly, all coaches play favourites and players are dropped or given multiple chances accordingly.

Just as every poster on here has a favourite player and a wipping boy often that subjective element factors into selection panel decisions imo. Imagine the noise around Richo coming into the season it makes no sense at all that he select guys he doesn’t rate or trust to implement his game plan.

How would he know if it works if players don’t follow instructions, so a guy who looks like he was decent to us may have looked crap to him and the coaching team. Follow instructions and kick the door down at sandy then step up when you get a chance at seniors, seems like a plan to me.

And so far as selecting a yeam to win, circumstances dictate that it's necessary right now, but if Cho's ares wasn't on the line then we'd still be in development mode.

It’s not mutually exclusive to play to win and be in development mode.
We have actually blooded two new players ( Wilkie and Parker) and are playing players like Battle, Marshall, Joyce etc who have only played a handful of games each.

To me, that looks perfectly balanced between development and playing to win.

That last statement is a total load of rubbish.

The desire to improve as a club and win games is a collective goal of the entire club and playing list.

Does winning hit outs result in winning clearances so far this year? I don’t believe so this year. Hit outs apart from a few a game are overrated. Anyway max palms the ball, billy just hits it. We really do need a stat called hit outs to disadvantage

I think jack was joking. No one thought Watters was a legend. Young or old. Good or bad. Black or white. Tall or short. Maybe the dwarf did

If he asked to be traded and if he is on the outer with richo he would have been traded if someone wanted him. If richo is playing to win well bugger me. Is that what the game is all about. Secondly didn’t he play paddy every chance he had last year and was most likely to this year even though he didn’t deserve it. I reckon he is playing to win and I reckon he is playing a pretty young side. Maybe we just play the kids who usually play at sandy after all they have a great winning record. It’s strange but the players basically bugger all see play always seem better to some than the ones we do see play in a much higher competition.

With regards to Brandon, real life story right here...

One of my early boss was an absolute prick. He didn't like me and hardly spoke to me.

I hated him and was unhappy that others seemed to get preferential treatment. I used to go to work angry and had a chip on my shoulder.

Then I was pulled aside. Facts of life were explained to me regarding my effort and that a lack of results was proof of that lack of effort.

I was advised to notice worry about my boss and worry about my own performance. Stop wasting energy on playing the victim. Take control of your future and work your arse off to make the sort of money you want.

Took the advice and never looked back. Earned his respect and away we went.

Funny how ones future can change.

Kudos to you! But as you admit yourself for a while there your relationship with your boss DID affect your work!
White is still a young man, it wouldn't be inconceivable IF he felt no love from Richo for him and plenty of others in the past to spit the dummy!

Like the wise one Yawkey said all coaches do play favourites! This is no secret!
From my observations Richo more than most! But at the end of the day like you said the only way White is going to find any joy is if he puts the head down
And bum up to give the selectors no choice in the end but to play him!
No point anyone denying that it does not happen in all walks of life and as Scrappy correctly points out in some cases it can be most deflating and easy to become
Defeatist about it!
Especially younger people! The very best Coaches/Managers are the ones that are able to keep the vast majority invested and not feeling this way!

No idea how you decide richo plays favourites more than most unless you follow all clubs unbelievably well and who are richos favourites anyway. I’m sure he has one or two as does every coach. As for this no love stuff well people must think the players have no interaction with the coaches. White would know exactly where he is at and it wouldn’t be told without love from at least one or two coaches. They have more meetings than they do training individually and as a group. White isn’t getting a game for one simple reason. He isn’t playing as well as the player he would replace

I'm just basing it from the amount of players that have been disgruntled at some point during his time at the club!
Just seems a whole lot higher than i have ever remembered it before from other coaches with the exception of the crazy dwarf!

Maybe it's a new trend allround these days with the introduction of social media and public whinging being far more fashionable than the past
Where the general rule was to just suck it up and let actions do the talking!
I'm not saying i'm a fan of this new approach, just that it's clearly a lot more visible than previously! And like i said in my view our coach has had more players
Offside than most previously! It may not have all been him though, previous assistants also play a role and from the general vibe, mabo you know the whole shebang
It seems a more harmonious group in general this year with some fresh faces!

Just my observation Plugger! There is no facts...Right or wrongs here...Just opinion my friend!

Rob Eddy was the classic, played 10 games a season for three years, including 2 grand finals, then delisted.

All players get put under the pump and everyone reacts differently , just look at Lonie , St Kilda would of traded him if they could of got value for him instead they gave him another chance and the kid has taken the chance of proving himself , by attacking the preseason and showing he means business.
I for one never thought he would make it , by the guy has shown he is determined to prove he is AFL material and he has so far this season.

Another is Brown , I was wanted the guy phased out , but once again I was proven wrong , he stepped up and has had the best preseason he has ever had and just looking at his preseason games he has even improved his contested marking , where last year he would just go for the spoil even at times he could of taken the mark.
I expect the because of the physical shape he is in he could actually have the best season he has ever had and could play on for a couple more years due to his condition.
However it is to soon to predict how they perform of the course of the year but things are looking good and with some actual good replacements waiting in the wings.

Another guy who has shocked me is Newnes , last year he looked cooked however this year he has come out and shown everyone he is a really useful player and a very good utility.

These are just 3 guys that have had there future's under the pump and they have risen to the challenge and now are true leaders.

It’s fine to have an observation but it’s also fine to question it. Who has been disgruntled over the last 5 years. We have lost bugger all players so I’m confused. The way I see it from a fair bit of experience is this. Players who know they aren’t yet good enough to play ones like the coach. Players who think they are good enough to play ones but don’t them don’t like the coach. Regular senior players like the coach. Certainly been happening since 1996 and I would guess 100 years earlier than that

It's not always about necessarily the players that leave or don't! It's about extracting the very best from each individual so naturally the team benefits!
I'm just saying that even before last years debacle, we haven't looked the happiest group going around!
This year is the first time i'm sensing a more complete buy in from the whole group!

When the captain who many consider to be one of his favourites comes out as is as scathing on the coach that Richo himself admitted it's normally a reflection
of a wider group! Many have considered him to be far too critical and negative rather than focussing on players strengths in order to give them confidence!
