Non Lions Discussion 2019

Anyone know how many years Buddy has left on his long contract?
I'm probably speaking prematurely, but he looks like he has lost a yard this year to date.
by my reckoning 2022 is the last season of his contract, so this season plus 3 more.

And yeah he will be a liability or dead cap money in that last season or 2 I reckon.

Besides a GF; I'd love to see a Lions v Sydney home and away game in Melbourne.

I honestly reckon there'd be more in attendance than a weaker Melbourne team playing against a Suns / Giants / Dockers game given the level of support that the Lions and Swans have in Melbourne through their respective connections to Fitzroy and South Melbourne.

C'mon Sydney; sell a home game to Melbourne so we can make it happen.;)

Looks like Carlton are in the 'honourable losses' phase similar to us last year.

I think they'll catch us because they have GWS as a feeder club but we could have a pretty good rivalry over the next few years.

I reckon he'll almost be cooked by 2021 and will well and truly be stuffed by 2022. I guess they can always restructure his contract or have on their list for a season despite not actually playing as we did with Voss in 2007 despite finishing up at the end of 2006. I think Sydney also did it with Tippett last year and the Giants did with Patfull a couple of years back.

But they are getting all of the GWS B-C graders. It will help them improve but only to a point (of around 10-12 on the ladder). Other than Cripps, Walsh, Docherty, Charlie Curnow, maybe McKay, they don't have much A grade or potential A grade talent. I think we are way better off than them in this regards and it will see us pull away from them.

Which are the players they have picked up in the draft.
So GWS are happy to hand off the ones they don’t want!
Other than Doc of course, but questionable as to how he returns after 2 knee recos.

This is where we disagree. They've got others like Dow, Marchbank, Setterfield, SPS that look really good. McGovern could come good as well.

Yeah would agree. Dow seems to have a weakness kicking wise. And Walsh while he looks like a gun his kicking is also a bit suspect. But then Dangerfield gets away with being an iffy kick so..

yeah it's always a fun discussion as no 2 people will always agree :) For me those guys you mentioned all look "solid" with Dow probably the most likely to be the pick of that bunch. Marchbank didn't set the world on fire at GWS and hasn't shown much more at Carlton, Setterfield a bit harder to tell because of the injuries he has had previously but after R1 looking great, he has looked "ok" the next two rounds, SPS is flashy but certainly not consistent or reliable, and McGovern goes missing for multiple games.
Personally I would take Andrews, Witho, Berry, Bags, Bailey, Rayner, Hipwood over Carltons best youngsters. As a group I think they have shown more and collectively have a higher ceiling.
But at the end of the day, the players can have all the talent in the world but the club has to develop them in the right way for them to deliver on the potential.

Beyond playing lists I’m way more confident in our coaching group/approach to the game. We are getting close to the 3 year anniversary of Carlton kicking 100 points.

It seems as though Dunstall has just discovered, to his amazement, that a portion of the disposals made within AFL football are not entirely legitimate.

Dustin has gone and done the team thing when they really need and whacked De Boer off the ball which should get him a two week break.

Some Pies supporters starting to turn on Beams, so very sad.

Whilst ‘Aish’ would be a suitable brand name for vanilla ice cream.
I thought D.Beams was fantastic when he was "with" us and I never thought I would say this but Lachie Neale has been a big upgrade on him with what he brings to the team being exactly what we needed, we have other guys that can play similar roles to what Dayne did.

They are crucifying their entire midfield unit in their Eagles review thread - it's delicious reading :D

Yeah I was a fan when he was with us but was always pained by his lack of defensive work and his hack clearing kicks from a stoppage. Now he is back at the pies he has the stain of The Filth.
