It was rhetorical and there is a pointless saying for everything.

Composure comes from confidence, lack of confidence is killing us. The system and structures dont seem to be making it any easier either.
I agree. Lack of poise and composure is the thing that hurts. But that can change in one week. Just a matter of when.
But that saying isnt pointless... its very apt. Only the players can decide when they have had enough of losing. That decision obviously hasnt been made yet out there on field. Cripps tries. Weiters is sick of it. A few others but not enough yet.
Professional hardness is the thing that will follow from composure. Shot for goal..you nail it no matter what.

I didn’t get to watch it but I’m not sure what people are expecting.

Say what you like about the Swans they are a club that is seasoned for battle. We’re still finding our way as an administration and a footy team.

There is no quick repair. This team lost is still finding out what they have. Still 4 players minimum required and lots of kids to develop.

Good coast next week. Day game and 24deg. Might be ok there if Russell has put the miles in their legs.

Go Blues.

While you direct all your attention to one person, like you have for the last 18 months

I never blame players. You can get a group of average players with some excellent players and make a good team.

Hawthorn is an example of that - so is Sydney.

Ratten also did it between 2008-2011

Can we please recruit a genuine small forward in the draft this year, not a makeshift one, where we hope he can take the step necessary to play that role, I'm talking about one that has played small forward right through the junior system into TAC cup, that has tricks and kicks goals from nothing or very small space, someone who instinctively knows where the goals are, we are damn well crying out for one so badly
We should take Boomer in the mid season draft

Really flat after that performance, and one goal in almost 60 minutes of footy is genuinely dismal. A good team would have belted us.

Starting to get real Brendan McCartney vibes about Bolton. Has done some good things for the club, he’s obviously a meticulous planner and sees the long- term vision for the group, but he’s tactically inept. The Swans adjusted to close our space down, and from then we never looked like getting back into it.

Quite a bit of heat on Polson and Gibbons, which is warranted, but Plowman was appalling and despite being billed as this ultra reliable, dour defender, he’s a genuine liability at times. He also proves no meaningful rebound out of defence - almost exclusively takes the safe option every time. It never surprises me to see his DE in the green, he’s so ineffectual. Had to have a giggle when Papley beat him in a marking contest.

Great game from Jones on Buddy. Absolute killed him.

Cripps was Cripps.

The list is in OK shape, but the majority of our players play well in 5 second increments, there still very little cohesion and no base-level composure.

It’s now year 4 in this club-wide reset, and we need to be much further along.

You can't figure that out?
There is only time that can do it.
In a pressure moment you learn it when your sick of being beaten. A coach can talk forever till that moment and nothing will ever change. Our players have got to own it. Once they do that then the coach is able to do his stuff.
There is a saying. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

I reckon Dow and Harry would kick those goals 8 out 10 times (minimum) at training but because of their inexperience and age they haven’t got the head space right to apply that in game time pressure. It’ll come though.

If Ed hadn't popped up to do the unexpected today, our forward crumbing would have been non existent. We aren't far away in terms of solving the puzzle; but at same time we are miles away because we simply don't have AFL quality smalls to bring in. We miss Cunners, and even if he were available we'd still be a quality small or 2 short.

Yeah easy to blame a coach for players missing sodas 35 metres out
He and his coaches are responsible. If players continually fail, you have to start making the coaching team accountable. 9 years Casboult can't kick, and we give him another contract.

How did we get as close as 19?
Other than the first 10 mins or so Sydney were the far better side IMO.
- Hate playing at Marvel. It’s shit cos we are shit there so makes me feel shit when I’m there.
- umps weren’t great but no bearing at all on the result.
- our decision making transitioning the ball forward and/or execution doing so is mainly bad and causes much frustration and angst. If Harry is double teamed try something else perhaps? Sydney’s defence was all over us with seemingly more players than us at each contest in our 50 and we struggled to find space - all a credit to Sydney’s defensive positioning and pressure I guess.
- Hate losing my voice and the footy game.
- Cripps, Wash, Jones all had awesome games indeed.

Lol at people blaming coaching and small forwards for loss.

Inside 50 delivery was horrendous, and easy shots at goals missed while Sydney kicked theirs.

That’s the difference. Swap betts and polson today and same result.

Dow has so much potential but skills and defence need work.

Jones was immense. Cripps bog imo. Harry would have won game if he brought his boots, Walsh such a competitor.

On a positive, we’ve been in all 3 games against quality opposition all year. Disappointing to lose but hey..

Some over reactions here by some of you blokes, Carlton were not that bad and apart from 5-6 players having very ordinary games were in it all day and could have easily have won the game. Heeney was the thorn in your side and his man needed to be better.

2 more quality players as well as some speed on the outside you guys will be right.

Walsh is a beauty though , you guys did well

Good
Walsh
Weitering
Jones
Ed
Cripps
McKay
Good effort
Casboult
Newman
Not enough
Sps
Fisher
Dow
Simpson
Small fwds
Gibbo and polson...4 possessions each very poor....can’t live on chasing alone
Lobbe fourth in line
OBrien .... a full block of games in the twos...way off at this level
I watched him very closely today and he’s not a natural footballer, positioning and game sense lacking.
As a team ball use is poor and a rank of 18th for DE is pretty fair.
Lots to work with and plenty of positives.

there's maybe 10 players that put in a consistent effort every game, maybe less.
