The 2019 Troy Chaplin Memorial Cup

This year we play the team who were probably our second-biggest rivals after the Crows

We've played many memorable matches in the past decade...

* The Tredrea game in 2009, seven goals including the match winner

* The 140th anniversary ruined by an 0-9 Richmond in 2010

* Ben Cousins final game in 2010

* The hens teeth win in 2011, one of our three wins

* The draw in 2012, John McCarthy's final game :(

* The Troy Chaplin aeroplane in 2014, which also featured Matt White's GOTY

* The Father's Day massacre Elimination Final in 2014

* The Kane Cornes farewell before he became a media pundit firefighter in 2015

* The 'at least we can beat someone twice' in 2016

* The "I hate this club sometimes" game in 2017.

* The "we CAN beat a top 8 side" game in 2018

And then in one afternoon, all was forgiven when they defeated the Crows in the 2017 Grand Final, helping make South Australia bearable

--------------

Interesting times for our respective clubs, with both of us coming off losses against highly fancied teams.

Dusty is uncharacteristically out of form, having kicked 0 goals so far in 2019 and only 15 disposals against GWS over the weekend, he could be in doubt due to an off-the-ball hit. On top of that, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt won't be playing.

We may be without Lycett, on top of being without Dixon and Watts, so both of our clubs could be without key players for this matchup.

This could be a season turning point for whoever wins this.

My prediction: Port by 19, Butters to kick three and earning a a second Rising Star nomination in a row for Port

OH! and here's a game for those who love nostalgia, this trial game from 1981 between Port and Richmond at Alberton Oval, the reigning SANFL premiers vs. reigning VFL premiers, which turned out to be a 1 point thriller

We have to tag Martin. Have to. Niggle the ****er all day. He completely failed to deal with it yesterday, de Boer smashed him.

Get SPP to do it, niggling opposition players to frustration is his speciality. Will be Jared Brennan headbutting Josh Carr all over again.

You think he'll get away with the elbow?

But, if he does - 100% agree.

Really looking forward to this. Port by 25.

No Riewoldt, Rance and possibly no Cotchin and Martin out of form. There’s absolutely no excuse for losing this one.
Which, historically, means we will lose. I'd trust the players more against a full-strength Richmond.

Yep. Our players just cannot deal with expectation.
They look at the situation and think they can do less to get the win because the opposition is not as strong. Inevitably, they do exactly that and lose.

Never going to have a better time to beat the Tigers, no Dustin, no Rance, no Riewoldt. Any half decent team takes advantage of that scenario. Win or bust. With the Eagles and Collingwood coming in the next month, we must take full toll of this opportunity.

We need to see a release from this forward half impotence and find an adjustment that can stop us allowing opposition scores so easily.

Will be interesting to see how the tribunal views the Butters and Lycett incidents. Hopefully neither get suspended.

I'm not going to predict, I'm just going to expect a win, don't win and we're back to square one and the faithful will be turning away once again.

Port forward line dysfunctional.

Relying on 18 year olds.

Tigers are favorites especially if we lose Lycett.

Certainly Missing Charlie Up Forward.

If they're missing Dusty, Cotchin and Short on top of Rance and Riewoldt and we cant win well then we might as well stop trying this year.

I'll gauge my confidence levels on Thursday night, or Tuesday morning, whenever we find out whos playing.

It’s essentially the same as get 10 points up and then defend, rather then continue attacking. Except taking the attitude of ‘do just enough and then hold’ across the whole game.

Internally our coaches SHOULD be talking this up as a chance to destroy Richmond. I doubt coach ‘Park the bus’ is though.

I’m sure we’ll stick with the same dysfunctional setup instead of taking advantage of the Tigers lack of decent talls though. We’ll win, but it’ll be far from convincing and be a wasted opportunity to get confidence into our team, with a decent structure, against a wounded opponent.

IF lycett gets a match we need to be bringing in two talls, as our forward line was horribly short!

marshall and frampton?

my changes would be
OUT Lycett bonner Sgray
In Mayes Frampton and Marshall
