It's almost like we arrived at Midnight Mass on Christmas late and couldn't get a seat until the last hymn was started. Or something like that.
Hmmm. Could it be all that 666 Satanist stuff as well?

Macrae did pretty well
Caleb to Macrae - continually got us out of trouble in the backline. The chain links to goal were broken after these 2.

Best win in their history according to Eddie - let the hyperbole roll on.
Yeah agree, we were good all day and consistent with our form this year but hardly our best win ever. Karmichael Hunts goals after the siren to beat ninth mond still gives me chills

I only listened to the game on the radio, still costs power though ! I did not see the game, but it sounded early
we pushed up too high and got beat out the back then corrected and got numbers back behind to creep back
into the game, but in the process made it harder to score efficiently. Just guessing though as I did not see it.

English needs to be dropped, just that simple.

I'm not despondent after that, they are a far better team than people give them credit for. They took their opportunities and we didnt show them sufficient respect in the first quarter.

Has been poor for for a good 18 months now
I've posted several times over the last couple of years that his stats (and form) dropped 10% each year after his AA year (2015). He was good in 2016 without his form being highly memorable but he has been very ordinary the last couple of years. This year looks to be no improvement on 2018 so far.

Maybe Bevo was ahead of us, saw this trend in 2017 and was trying to find a rejuvenating role for him as a forward last year, like he did with moving Matt Boyd to half back? We know that it didn't work with Wood up forward but he probably thought he had to try something.

If we had someone suitable to bring into his role I'd drop Wood.

Would Williams be any worse? Their height and weight are almost identical. Wood has been more athletic over his career - not so much now. The other left-field option is Lachie Young - taller, lighter. Probably too risky to give him a debut against the likes of de Goey, Elliott and co.

I doubt anything will happen though, especially if Bont doesn't come up. Hard to lose captain and vice-captain in one hit. I hope Moz continues to defy medical predictions with his bone broth recovery. We sure need him back.

I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old girl. They throw massive tantrums when we lose. I then come on BF and the tantrums are even worse! lol.

If that is the worst performance we put in all year I would be THRILLED. Unfortunately, it will not be.

C'mon folks, everyone knows what our three weaknesses are by now: 1) We are slow starters. 2) When we turn the ball over we get opened up super easy. & 3) Our kicking for goal is putrid. We balance those weaknesses out with three strengths: 1) We never give up. 2) We win the contested ball and dominate clearances. 3) We come home like a steam train. There will be times when the three weaknesses prevail, and times when the three strengths prevail. Suck it up.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying we can't criticise players and the team. This is a discussion board after all! But a bit of perspective would be nice. You'd swear that we just lost our 15th game in a row by 20 goals.

Suns earned it and it would have been daylight robbery if we’d pinched it. The fact is though that we almost did and would have made it if not for some hilariously inept kicking at goal.

First the good:
  1. Libba has been awesome.
  2. McLean and Daniel kept their heads and were good.
  3. Suckling looks like he means business this year despite one or two bad turnovers.
  4. Naughton fought his way into the game.
  5. Smith looks better each week.
The bad:
  1. Bont, Dickson, Lloyd, Dunkley and Gowers sprayed absolute sitters. One here and there happens but this display gave us no chance to win.
  2. On that, Lloyd never even started a runup for his last shot and was never a chance to kick it. Bizarre. Maybe he was time conscious but whenever you see a player abandon routine they basically miss.
  3. Richards is in awful form. Love him but with Lipinski and others busting a gut to get back in you can’t keep him.
  4. English is a serious dilemma. I haven’t seen a player get so badly monstered in the ruck since Ayce. Ideally he would be a second ruck to mature player. He isn’t really marking or getting much ball around the ground. That said we have to play him to develop him. Hard one.
  5. They out pressured and out scragged us. They got away with murder in marking contests but if they can so can we and we didn’t seem to try.
  6. Horrible unforced skill errors again killed us.
  7. I’m not as hard on Gowers as others and his marking was good but he does dumb things and god knows what Dicko was thinking playing on.
  8. We consistently sat the ball on the head of players who weren’t leading and it never worked. Are players meant to be leading and don’t or are players taking bad options?
The upside is we are much better than last year. This was an opportunity though to build wins and we blew it, even if we didn’t earn it.

JJ will help a lot in terms of quicker movement. While others don’t think Boyd has a role to play anymore I think we could use his size in the ruck at times and deep forward.

Slow starts a massive problem again. Can’t give any team that much of a start no matter how bad they are.

Bloody Hell that’s poor.

Sunscdeserved to win...hopefully if they jag a couple more wins the AFL won’t feel the need to tamper with the draft again to top them up with talent...then again pigs might fly.
A couple of VFL players is hardly a windfall when you think of Melbourne getting pick 3 for Frawley or their tanking or Carlton’s endless No1 picks plus priority picks. Apart from our inaugural year we have not had a No 1 pick or a priority pick. Not trying to pick a fight as I like the dogs but we have hardly been handed the keys to the castle

Decided to order some TomYum fried rice with mixed seafood from Uber Eats to drown my sorrows, well not exactly drown.

Why is it getting so dark so soon? Is it a sign that the heavens mourn with us? G-d damn Suns!

Cordy had a cracking game down back. The amount of times Lloyd fumbled, failed to keep the ball in front, and gave the ball straight to the opposition glaring. Bontempelli played a strange poor game. Daniel was good.

Richards does some wonderful things, just not enough of them.
If only Lippi was a little quicker because he's banging the door down at VFL level.
I'll look forward to having a look at Lippi, I've seen people writing a lot of good things. Maybe once JJ and (dare I say it) Jong are fit again it might give us more flexibility to bring in a slower player like Lippi

He had Hunter on.
If he either disposed of the ball quicker or went back to take his kick it was a certain goal to Hunter.

Basically he did the only thing that wouldn't have resulted in a goal.

We played really dumb football at times today but it was mostly basic skill errors that killed us

He played well last week, but his time is coming to an end. If we had a ready replacement, he'd be dropped. Like Wood.

Just got home from the game. When Suckling seems to be the quickest player on our side, we have problems.

We just don't hit targets when not under pressure.

I get what you're trying to say, but you had effectively had two extra number 1 picks in O'Meara and Martin because GWS were forced to trade those players and you clearly had the highest non-GWS picks in the league to trade

Incidentally, I am now even more interested in next week's game. I was a bit worried that at 3-0 we would get a bit complacent and float into the Magpies buzzsaw on Friday night. But now this game has a bit of an air of "backs to the wall" about it. Coming off a loss, 5 day break, Bont limping. The Pies will be hunting for blood. And so should we be.

Let's see what we're made of. No excuses now.

Thought we played ok after 1/4 time but fmd we have so dumb footballers. Can we learn to kick in front of the leading player not straight over his head Gowers brain fades were embarrassing.

And please play Bont as an outside mid. He's not a battering ram. We have Dunkley and Wallis for that.

We also got shown up badly for pace and spread- they had 2 and 3 guys running unopposed into goals in the first quarter.

The players tried their guts out but the style of play was early 2018 or even 2015!

Yep agree, GWS mini draft was a horrendous decision

Look at all the picks they've hoarded from it and they're still able to move on players when they want out for a bigger pay day or more opportunity fairly easily

You guys got bugger all compared to them, plus their Riverina zone etc.

Shocking result for us but I'm not getting off the wagon. Every game our downfall has been US and stupid mistakes. The fact the boys sorted it out after that shit 1st quarter and again came home again in the last gives me hope. All of us would love to be 2-1 at the start of the year before we played the games so let's get behind the boys.

Bailey Smith was sensational today and although Naughton struggled with crap entries inside 50 to have a target everytime we needed a bail out kick is something we have missed. Bonty set shot aside too was back to the injury free superstar we know. Realistically we are a year or two away from being elite but if this group and this setup stays together I'm confident. Cannot fault our effort or fight and win or lose we all know they gave there all that last quarter.

Let's not bag em out and get behind em this year cause 3 games in they've given us our moneys worth win or lose watching em live.

We've gone the local Viets. Though I am wondering if a packet of chicken Twisties might stick it up the original packs noses. (But no, I don't like chicken Twisties and the suns have put me off the originals for a while)

Know it's home and awy and North and Saints, but Suns should have beaten Freo by more and that same Freo team is demolishing Saints right now. All the talk of a team who were only going to win 1 or 2 or 3 games all season was just lazy analysis, they didn't make massive improvements, but they plugged weaknesses, and they've got a surprisngly experienced/adept defence with Hombsch, Collins, Harbrow, Hanley etc. down back. Of course our peformance sucks, but I think Suns could be a team that easily wins 7 or 8 games this year and messes with a few teams making finals.

I fear what the pies will go to us off a 5 day break

As everyone knows I predicted a really bad year but after the first two wins today was a must to set the year up.

We will now go 2-2 with a negative percentage.

At the game today we continually ignored short options and bombed it along the line when they dropped players. You wouldn’t have been able to see it on TV but they had a plus 2 ratio nearly every time across half back which means we had to have free short options but didn’t use them.

Our disposal was rubbish not even close to AFL level

Sorry, but for all those reasons we'll get smakaroonied. Hope I'm wrong.
