It’s possible but it’s not in America’s interest to kill him when they can jail him for a few years, humiliate him and claim their ‘victory’. It’s been nine years, enough water has gone under the bridge, no one in the general public is clamouring to see him punished any more.

I also don’t think America wants to go to war with the world’s press and free speech by criminalising publishing.

If they see him as an equivalent to Aldrich Ames or Robert Hansson, then it is in their interests to detain him for a very long time.

They could tack on some charges, they could trump some charges up (excuse the pun), but the US wouldn’t want to criminalise the publishing of true facts. Which is why they have charged him with conspiring with Chelsea Manning to access a confidential file, an act that wouldn’t be considered part of regular journalism. Carries a five year term.

Because he’s barely wikileaking anything of value any more. He’s lost the trust of many people through some selective, partisan leaking. It’s why some of the biggest leaks in recent years have come from other sources.

In other words he wasn't just leaking the crimes and corruption of the Republicans he also started leaking the crimes and corruption of the Clintons, Obama etc. "BASTARD!"

He's been arrested on breach of bail for a charge that has been dropped by the Norwegian authorities. The breach of bail should have been stood down at the same time. Except it's in Britain, where there's this great illusion of the powers of justice acting dispassionately for the common man. The British legal system is clearly corrupt from the highest level.

What is the extent of the US jurisdiction? How can someone be extradited to the US for crimes not committed in the US, and not by a US citizen? If the extradition request were made by a country such as Bolivia it would be summarily dismissed.

Well looks like the rape case in sweden and a crap load of charges from the us on breaking national security are going to be thrown at him. Hopefully Australia charges him as well for putting our forces in danger.

On any scale this guy is no hero.

Regardless of the other country dropping the charge, and in this case they are thinking about reinstating it, you have committed a crime by doing a runner on bail, thats in Australia the UK and elsewhere. As you can imagine judges take not turning up to face court pretty seriously.

The British authorities should act on the current status of the Norwegian case, not if 'they are thinking about it'.

Your missing the point it is a seperate crime skipping bail and you will be punished for it regardless of what happens in an extradition case.
 
I wonder if Pamela Anderson promised to show her hooters to Scott Morrison and his buddies that he will act on this.

That’s the way the Australian Government operates, only after they’re given a “political donation”.

So they should assess the skipping bail charge for a charge that has been dropped? That's a 5 minute hearing and the defendant is free to go about his business.

Instead he's in custody in the UK. It's not clear why.

He published secret documents which is illegal. Thats what he is being done for. Not whistleblowing. People go to prison for violating court orders and publishing information they shouldnt. This is no different.

Hilarious is all the conspiracy theorists who thought the us wanted to lock up assange for life or give him the death penalty. The US wanted him for a crime with a maximum penalty of 5 years. He would of been out of prison at least 2 years ago if he just gave himself in. You guys are looking quite foolish now.

Oh no don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say what he did wasn’t considered illegal in the free democratic civilised world. I’m surprised they haven’t disembowelled him and stuck his head on a pike as a lesson to those considering following in his footsteps.
