I don't know if this can go here but I am posting anyway.

The Morrison government has appointed a long-time Liberal Party staffer to a $350,000-a-year job heading up the agency managing the struggling Great Barrier Reef, fuelling accusations the Coalition is stacking the senior public service with its political allies ahead of the May election.
Environment Minister Melissa Price on Friday announced Josh Thomas, a former adviser to three Liberal environment ministers, including herself, had been appointed as chief executive of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The role attracts a salary of $353,180 a year.

The press release said the "rigorous" and "merit-based" selection process was conducted by a public service panel and endorsed by the Australian Public Service commissioner. It did not disclose that Mr Thomas worked in Ms Price's office until he resigned in mid-February. He has also worked for Josh Frydenberg and Greg Hunt in the portfolio.

$498m extensions to the Australian War Memorial

Saturday’s Nine (Fairfax) newspapers carried a story about 83 distinguished Australians signing a letter opposing the plan to expand the Australian War Memorial in Canberra at a cost of $498m. The letter says the extensions cannot be justified, they show the Memorial is being given preference over other national institutions, and the money could be better spent. The letter and the full list of signatories.

Among the signatories to the letter are renowned Australian authors, Richard Flanagan, Thomas Keneally, and Don Watson, leading historians Marilyn Lake, Stuart Macintyre, Mark McKenna, Henry Reynolds, and Clare Wright, three former heads of Australian government departments, two former Australian ambassadors, a former Director and Deputy Director of the War Memorial, and the founding Chair of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. Out of the 83 signatories, 24 have been honoured with awards under the Order of Australia.

Just more future Labor budget sabotage

Asked about his travel, Mr Christensen said last night it was a part of a “smear campaign” from Labor and a “former very senior Liberal MP”, and he had never used taxpayers’ funds for private travel. “As far as I’m concerned and the facts are concerned, this matter is over.”
Mr Christensen’s office last night disputed some of the dates, but not the total amount, of his travel to Manila.

One senior Coalition figure told the Herald Sun: “I’m not really interested in what he’s doing there, to be honest. But how anyone can justify that much time away from a marginal seat when you’re a backbencher is utterly beyond me.”

The outspoken MP, who has threatened to quit the Coalition and cross the floor on multiple occasions, announced his engagement to his Filipina fiancee, April Asuncion, last September.

But it can now be revealed he has flown to Manila 28 times while a member of the Coalition government, and had been 19 times before meeting his fiancee.
His trips were scheduled so as not to clash with parliamentary sitting days or the eight-week 2016 election campaign.

But records show he was on a plane to Manila for a seven-day visit three days after the July 2 polling day.

On three occasions he flew back on either January 23 or 24 to attend Australia Day events in his electorate.

All but one of his trips were self-funded and on his personal passport.

Who is leaking??????

Reckon we can guess who the " fmr very senior MP " is.

This was the story that popped up in january-february and got shut down VERY quickly by " top men ".

Anyway , nothing will come of it because curious george is one of the delcon mafia

And people will still vote for them , and still in with a chance to win ? It’s absolutely mind boggling .
Not according to the bookies

Not according to the bookies

Hopefully people don't get sucked in with this budget & surplus BS , and of course the Murdoch PR firm backing LNP 24/7 in the next 5 weeks , a lot of dumb people in this country. Hopefully the result goes like it did here in Vic last state election just gone.

Ms Bishop repeatedly hacked into the foreign aid budget, bringing it to a record low of 0.23 per cent of gross national income, according to OECD figures.

I think Bishop's foreign aid legacy deserves a bit more consideration that this. To say that spend went down therefore it is bad is simplistic - it's a complicated topic and in a lot of ways it is more about power projection than helping people.

For example, dig into the cuts and there is a significant reorientation away from Africa and Asia towards our Pacific neighbours - where the bang-for-buck is much more significant and arguably we can do far more good. Combine that with non-aid initiatives that she championed as part of wider development policy, like the Pacific Labour Scheme, and you can argue that she marshalled a much more coherent and effective approach to regional development than her predecessors (despite reduced spending).

Reduced spending sucks but is sometimes just a casualty of circumstance. The areas I am most disappointed with her tenure are more surrounding aid transparency (which she promised to improve but failed to deliver on) and the reintegration of AusAID back into DFAT (which I never fully understood and doesn't seem to have achieved much).

Why? Not everybody is an idealist - in fact I'd say most people are not. Scott Morrison could drop his pants and play the banjo on his old fella on national TV, and I'd still vote Coalition over Labor in May. I have no real choice; I'd be mad to support a party that plans to pick my pocket to the tune of several thousand dollars.

My stance is far from unique - Bill Shorten and Anthony Albanese are going to cost a lot of people a lot of money. As they should - the reality is that Bill Shorten doesn't need the vote of people like me to get elected. His willingness to spend his political capital on difficult policy initiatives (rather than simply attempting to secure the biggest majority possible) is actually kind of refreshing.

How much exercise do you get load a gun and pulling a trigger?

That moron would turn up to the opening of an envelope !!

Labor to rescind all contracts granted by the Liberal Party whilst in government ahead of an ICAC in to fraud and corruption while in Government.
To begin with the Howard Government and hope to see "compensation" sought from the individuals concerned.

Start with Child Care law changes implement by John Howard which saw Howard's son-in-law win government contract, make millions, steal those millions and then when caught rorting the system escape a jail term.
Next make the Ministers responsible for helping the Catholic church hide and continue to molest children until their hand was forced by Labor and the independents to face charges for their complicity.
Make the Liberal party or it's individual conspirators (members, ministers) pay compensation to those ripped off by the banks under the Libs protection until forced into the Royal Commission by others.
Then, see the list above.
Prosecute every Minister and sue every member of the Party involved in every instance.
Put them all in prison to rot.

Happy to see that happen as long as the members of the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd governments who also did nothing in power are held to account.
