Let's hope not, Cogs to B. Crouch is a rather big downgrade.
Not necessarily when you look at what the team balance would be.
Crouch would be the first in crash & bash to free up the other boys & who is also a great stoppage player to partner with Mitchell as a 1-2 tandem.
This gets Jaeger, Mitchell ect more time on the outside with less “miles” on the tyres getting knocked up & should run out games better as a result of not copping the knocks.
While Cogs is a fantastic player I don’t think he would give the others enough if a relief at the coal face.
Cogs will have a massive contract payday & more than just Hawthorn will be throwing money at him. I’m sure we will play the game, ala Dylan Shiel, Tom Lynch type hat in the ring stuff but Crouch could get done for a lot less while others are also potentially coming in like Patton & I hope the other is Sam Day.
3 players in a position of need as opposed to 1 inflated contract for mine is much better.

Would definitely take Buddy back in a heartbeat. We need a big forward more than anything.

Yeah we do, but apart from the romantic side of things, the trade would be lunacy.

Slow, lost kick penetration and is physically sub par.

There's a reason he doesn't train during the week, and does minimal pre season. Swans know this.

Clarko will sort him out

Still think he has a couple more 50 goal seasons in him

Coniglio does everything better than B. Crouch, who is a quality mid in his own right.

Our best midfielder today has played 15 games.

Probs need a midfielder or 2.

Prefer Cogs over Crouch, but can't go wrong with either. Crouch is a ripper.
You have to wonder how much longer Cripps is going to be ok with being the only Carlton player who turns up every week.

McEvoy, Mitchell, Cripps and O'Meara would be insane.

Cogs coming off the bench or cutting his teeth at Box Hill?

Pretty certain if Buddy is traded his contract with Sydney finished without them having to pay the remainder in the cap. He is then on a contract with us.

Makes zero sense for traded players to still be in the cap of their former club. Players have to agree to the trades and contract terms of the new club, clubs can't just trade players without their acceptance.

Bud's contract needs to be in someone's cap.

Hypothetically, say Bud's on $1.5m a season for the balance of his contract. That $1.5m needs to be somewhere.

If he stays in Sydney, the $1.5m will be there every year of the 9yr contract, whether he retires early or not.
If he goes to another club, say Hawthorn, and only gets $500k per season, then $500k is in his Hawks cap, and $1m will be in the Swans cap.
If Hawks agreed to take on the full $1.5m then, its in Hawks cap for good and Swans are out of it.

So we should offer GWS our 1st and 2nd picks ostensibly just for Patton, providing they understand that Cogs walks to us unopposed. AFL can then give them pick 1 as compensation for Cogs, whom they ostensibly got nothing for.

We then agree to get Buddy back from Sydney for nothing, and pay him minimum chips, allowing the AFL an excuse to revise the rules and tear up the cap debt over Sydney, as well as giving them a compo pick, likely better than pick 19. The AFL gets a heart-warming prodigal son return story and makes him an ambassador of the game for a million a year outside the cap to sweeten the deal. In return for that concession we quietly agree to depart Tasmania and leave it to Norf, and the AFL signs off on Hill returning to us as a free agent.

We use our free cap to then acquire Crouch from the Crows, Clarko and co find us another Scrimshaw type pickup from nowhere, and we draft another Worpel/Sicily type with our third round pick, as we are prone to do.

That Cornes guy then entertains us with his mild happy opinions all that summer.

Midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders, midfielders please.

I don't want Judas Franklin anywhere near Hawthorn again either.

It’s funny reading some of these posts. Perhaps some are hoping we become the dumping ground for recycled players like St Kilda were in the 80s.

We are not getting Buddy back peeps.

Almost 4 million of the 10 million is contained in the final 3 years of the contract. If you don’t hold Sydney to it then in effect they got buddy on a 6 year 6 million deal. Still a big deal but not as prohibitive. Other clubs could have matched that offer and quite possibly we could have. So the wage has to be accounted for in sydney’s cap except possibly where they trade him (not clear on that). But the balance of the original amount and what buddy gets paid from the new club still needs to be in Sydney’s cap else the free agency model is corruptible.

Cripps will be AFLX Rampage's first full time player next year after experiencing a winning 6 game season with then earlier this year.

Carlton to receive MDF draft picks as compensation.

My God- days and days of posts about washed up Buddy on a hideous contract based on a hypothetical media time filler conversation...
Folks, Buddy moved to Sydney because he wanted out of the fishbowl of Melbourne, also to be with his now wife, there is 0% chance he ends up at Hawthorn and besides, I have no idea why anyone would want him.. the most amazing player in the last 20 years but he’s slowing down a lot.

If the rumours are true and Cogs doesn’t look likely so be it- but can we move on from the romantic fantasy that Bud is coming home- we need a
-marking- key foward amongst many other glaring holes on the list...
