Looking at this standard of this game we would be probably the major beneficiary of a national reserves comp (along with Suns, Swans and GWS)
I reckon even a non Victorian reserves comp could work too involving clubs from Qld, NSW, WA and SA.

Worth noting that Freo are the only club of the non-Victorian clubs that doesn't have its own stand alone team (aligned with Peel) although someone would need to verse me on whether Port Adelaide is a stand alone team or similar to Freo with Peel (don't know enough about SANFL footy).

VFL has easily the best record in producing AFL players.
Makes sense considering most AFL teams based in Vic.

Aspley did not play that bad from halfway through the 2nd we where 7 goals up and won by 8.
Sort of just coasted for the 2nd half of the game. Urgency gone once they 7 goals up. Would of thought as spots open would of been more.

One interesting thought was we know Andrews probably out with hammy, although they moved Ballenden to the forward line for the second half.
So does that mean they thinking of McStay back or Eagles over Ballenden? As you think they leave him to finish game in back half if he was next in line?

Of the tried players.
Cutler, Basti, Taylor and Keays played well.
Eagles did what he always does.
Smith needs another go

Younger ones on list :) Wooler/Fullarton both went well forward.
Some nice things from Berry, E Smith, Allison, Joyce, Madden, Hinge and Lyons.
Ballenden and Skinner not bad not sure either get Andrews spot.

Wouldnt mind Eagles coming in, bit of aggression.
Maybe a Wooler coming in as well. Dont want Basti, we know what he can do and it isn't much.

Doesn't look like there is any formation in the forward line, looks like it is just bombing it in, same as the seniors.
Keays lead up a few times and probably the mids lowered their eyes more then seniors.
Although yes bomb to the pack and hope someone marks or crumbs is not really % move.
Pies cut us open with leading players space and small-mid marks last night

If the AFL can't afford to subsidise a whole AFL reserves comp then perhaps they could at least subsidise having Northern AFL teams in the VFL. I really don't see what value either the AFL clubs or the NEAFL community clubs get out of this competition. Did quite enjoy it today though. Spent a bit of time near Fagan and Leigh Matthews and eaves-dropped a bit of Leigh's analysis of last night.

Any details on that bit? Sounds very interesting

Just bit and pieces, they were watching the game but Leigh made a few comments mostly about the NEAFL game but sort of relating the game back to last night: Poor positioning and body work at the centre clearance and stoppages allowing opponents to get in front and win the ball and get clearance from Lions players and too straight and fast in attack at times. About last night he mentioned a lack of pressure and poor skills as the game went on so Pies were committing less at the contest but winning the ball anyway and confident of doing so and therefore had extras forward or outside. Didn’t hear anything in response from Fagan. Matthews a big fan of De Goey

Fagan, Noble and Swann seemed to get together for a bit of a debrief straight after and I wanted to hear a bit of that too but it would have been awkward to get too close given that all other fans and the field had sort of cleared out :)

Chris Fagan and Lethal get together quite regularly for a coffee as they live near each other in the Bulimba area.

I disagree. If we had a slew of losses and we still didn't reward form then I'd agree wholeheartedly. The reality is, this team is 3-1 and the coaches are backing the boys in to bounce back. If we get pumped and make no changes for the Suns then we should worry!
Got pumped... played no different to Essendon game... changes coming.

Because playing a team half full of amateurs is comparable to playing one of the stronger sides in the AFL?
Nah we got destroyed v ess... signs were there that few werent going well and were on a 5 day turnaround against an even better lineup. No change and what happened. Same mistakes and ran out of gas.... hmmm id say changes coming this week.

Fullarton, Answerth, Eli Smith and Cutler deserve a game next week.

If Andrews is out move McStay back, Fullarton plays McStays role, Cutler for Bundy, Answerth for Roberston and Smith for Matho.

What have you got against Bellendeen? Been emergencies a few times this year. Had to have his nose in front.

Mitch Hahn on Keidean Coleman:

The Lions only played one non-listed player, with 19-year-old Keidean Coleman kicking 3.1 from his 13 touches.

“Keidean’s been really good. He’s played a variety of positions from half-back to half-forward, and every time we’ve changed him he’s really adapted to the role and bought into that process,” Hahn said of Coleman.

Keidan's footy journey is a really inspiring one (posted an article about him in the Academy thread last year) and worth a read if you don't know much about him. I really hope he finds his way onto one of our lists next year.

I would love Coleman to get a chance. Admittedly haven't seen a lot of him - but what I have seen is a classy disposal that can regularly hit the scoreboard. If he can learn to find a bit more of the ball (and can convert it to the big league) he could be exactly the outside player we are looking for.
