Purely guessing - they're narrowing down then field for the mid years selection. Got some criteria that they'll compare notes on? And being seen to be considering NB players so helps with recruiting next year....
Totally agree BG....they'd definitely be looking at bringing in someone this year with an eye on this year's trade/draft period.

I think we'd be naive if we think that we're not looking at bringing in another mid at some point. Early days, but Frank the Tank is the hard arsed in and under 'mature' mid that you could bring into the fold and cost you nothing but a rookie pick.

I do tend to get a little obsessed about our list strategy, but given our current draft picks, if we got a quality mid at this stage, we can use our currency during the trade period to bring in players to complement our current list, like a young ruck and small damaging forwards. We're likely to trade our high draft picks, so the strategy may be to look at topping up now, as opposed to relying on our 4th and 5th round picks in the ND.

I think it's great Stocker playing back. A first year player gets around 20 disposals in defence in his first two games is a really good result. It's developing defence, two way running and reading of the game in open play as well. It's also developing a secondary position and may develop him as a Docherty type who can play midfield and is pretty much a midfield type but can also play back at a really good level. Playing half back and half forward at a high level in modern footy is practically midfield anyway.

It might give him an early avenue to an early debut as well. I hope we persist with playing Stocker in defence and I hope he really improves at it to the point where he gets some good numbers and pushes for selection as well as spending some time in the middle.

If he plays AFL this season could see him as someone who spends a lot of time in the rotations coming on and off the bench through various positions.

Maybe.

Its almost as bad as those who are constantly throwing their toys out of their cot and behaving like spoilt brats everytime someone questions something about the club or does not conform to their own personal beliefs in their role as self appointed gate keepers of supporter behaviour.

Yup - constant and unrelenting attacks on supporters is far worse than having a discussion about issues at the club.
Still ranting I see. I liked the way you moved the goalposts in the match preview thread after I called out your lack of factual information.

You will be transported to the dungeon for the term of your BF life to join the other toy throwers. Enjoy.

It's a contract to the end of the year, so it doesn't cost any future selection opportunities unless we sign him on, it simply costs the rookie draft pick we never used.

Lastly, I think we've found one in Franky Anderson....loved his attack on the ball. He was moved onto Alex Woodward in the 2nd half in a run-with role after he was carving us up early...and largely nullified his game as well as finding the ball himself. Very impressive, especially as a 21yo.

SOS was up in the grandstand, sitting with the Silvagni clan. Hopefully he's keeping an eye on the talent in the state league.

From what I hear Frank Anderson is an “Isaac Smith” type project, a few clubs wanted to see him at VFL level.

At least we have first dibs on him at the mid season draft.

Just a question Jimm....those of us at the game saw a pretty impressive oppo ruckman in Max Lynch....rookie listed out of contract at the end of the year.

Hypothetically, if SOS approached him or his manager and said we're interested in picking him up with the view of being the our future #1 ruck, and he's keen to come over, how would we be able to get him on board?

I'm just not sure what the rules and regs are regarding rookie listed players out of contract.

It would depend on what kind of contract Collingwood have him on. If he's only contracted to the end of the year (standard rookie contract), then there's a decent chance we could get him as a DFA, or as a rookie.

Otherwise it's a trade. I saw him as an OK prospect for GWS back in the day (he was an academy player), but I've not seen anything in his career to date that he'd be worth pursuing in a trade.

For mine, it's DFA only, but there's lots of quality rucks coming out of the juniors lately, and we shouldn't keep burning list spots on mediocre rucks (albeit this would still be a step up from Phillips, Levi and Lobbe's ruck output so far this season).

Team:

Notable Outs: Cottrell, Hill
Notable Ins: Finbar, O'Rourke

I'd expect 4 or 5 AFL players to drop out of this team (3-4 bench, 1 emergency), which means one player will drop from the bench, likely one of Keppel, Stavrou and White.

Interestingly, Charlie isn't named despite being on the extended bench in the seniors. No coverage.

EDIT: Simpson also not named, hence the bench congestion despite the squad being finalised. Perhaps Garlett as the senior emergency?

Looking forward to this. Really enjoyed watching the NB's so far this year and I expect it to get better and better

The better they are ... the better the senior side will be ... at least this year Fraser has some assets to work with.

Hopefully we can find another radio feed of this game. There are just so many guys I'm interested in following. I actually really enjoyed listening to last weeks game. Gave me the Blues fix I needed in the day before the big game (Getting the win certainly helped too). Saying that, VFL coverage desperately needs a revamp, IMO. Not having any coverage at all for some of these games is very disappointing. He need to see or hear - in real time - how our next generation of superstars are performing!

I guess this got moved from PCO? All the Northern Blues news and tweets say Ikon but I've seen 2 different fixtures (including the one on the NB website) which says PCO.
