Should the victims of the Sri Lanka terrorist attack also be remembered during the ANZAC day minutes silence.

It would be a good gesture and I hope the AFL agrees to pay respect to victims in all the matches across the round.

Wondering which way he voted on marriage equality too.

Trying to belittle somebody’s argument based on their beliefs on another point is a pretty weak crutch to lean on...

Also assuming that somebody would blindly devote themselves to a faith, taking its scriptures at face value is a pretty silly assumption.

How many churches and christians/Catholics supported marriage equality? Many.

How strong is the stance of the bible against homosexuals? Very.

I’m not saying that Waleed is the greatest guy on earth or even a great guy. But how do we ever make positive change in the world one way or another if we only exclusively listen to those who are infallible? How “perfect” do you have to be for your argument on unrelated issues to be relevant either way? What qualifies you as a person who is allowed to have a belief?

If we ignored the arguments and opinions of everyone simply because they don’t fit perfectly into a “box”, we wouldn’t believe anyone and would never progress.

Tigers -

With the high rate of the churning news cycle - it wont take too long for another issue/event to overtake this terrible mark on human history. Unfortunately this too will become a distant memory and in a couple of months it will be very much at the back of our thoughts (unless it directly effected you - and if it did - I'm very sorry and sympathies to you) - take the Notre Dame fire - almost 24hr live coverage - now... 'oh yeah - it burnt down' and that was last week.

But - for remembered for ANZAC day … ummm - NO

Being the devil's advocate, although this attack was far more devastating it didn't happen in the West so the impact is far less relatable. We've already seen the outrage is far less, theres no crowds standing out on the Old Museum lawns demanding inclusiveness, no Eggboy. Those activists are nowhere to be seen when its Islamic State. Its these activists who push the AFL into action so there will be no commiseration.

Yes but that's the achilles heel of your argument. We did it for Christchurch but we won't do it for Sri Lanka when unlike Christchurch Australians and Australian residents actually died there. Plus the scale of this utterly dwarfs Christchurch. Moreover, the Sri Lankan government has linked the bombing of these Christian churches as retaliation to the Christchurch attack. Acknowledging Sri Lanka has at least as many good arguments as acknowledging Christchurch, especially if one attack proves to be linked to the other.
Lol. What about the Russians? Lol Stop spreading uncorroborated news. Don't be like mass media outlets and most people who just believe anything they hear.

Walleed Ali is a man of unique talent. Not everyone can write a full page story for the Age about terrorism and never use the word Muslim or Islam once, I'm sure he'll give this his usual special treatment.

You’ve been duped. Terrorism and Islam aren’t anywhere near as strongly linked as Murdoch and his cronies would have you believe.

Look at any shooting in the US. If you’re black or brown you’re a terrorist. If you’re white you have a mental illness.

terrorism
/ˈtɛrərɪzəm/
noun

  1. the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
Lol What exactly was the political purpose of the columbine shootings? Some shootings are terrorism, some are due to mental illness, etc etc. Some are drug cartel territory shootings. Maybe you're not as smart as you think you are? Maybe just adverse to the truth.

Would think that Anzac Day is a day for remembering all those who died in futile wars, which includes all victims of futile terrorist attacks. Lest we forget applies to all in my mind. To me war is not patriotic, it is beyond borders. So a mention of the latest tragedy would not be out of place.

What about the Mozambique cyclone disaster, or the aeroplane crashes recently killing hundreds. All terrible tragedies worth remembering for all the pain. Where is the line?

I think everyone can 'remember' in their own way. No official acknowledgment of who is necessary.

I say no. ANZAC is reserved for those who died fighting for our rights and freedoms.
just Australian soldiers who were killed in WW1, WW2, Vietnam? Those who died fighting Fascists and Communists. Or do we include those who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan? Fighting Al qaeda and ISIS.
