Is Papley a free agent?

I agree, should be pretty high on our target list. May be players wanting to get out of Sydney as well
Only 22 so not a free agent but I rate highly.

It was kinda funny listening to the commentators. While the score was still pies 1-0 up one of the commentators piped up 'Shiel has had 8 touches already, the pies really need to put someone on him'

I just thought. Wtf. 8 touches that have led to a total of 0 shots on goal. Why would a coach waste time and alter his game plan to account for a ball butcher.

Same

Yep, exactly spot on. We are already an unclean, under-skilled team.

We need more high efficiency players, not a Dylan Shiel type. Absolutely glad we avoided him and instead landed Setterfield.

GWS pushed Shiel out the door for a reason.

Best thing is that SOS bidding on him it forced * and Dodo to pay way overs, 2 1st round picks.

IIRC - Ironically it is Dodoro that was refusing to hand over 2 x R1 picks.

Negotiations were taken over by his boss (Dan Richardson) to get the deal done.

One thing that sometimes posters may forget when discussing recruiting players from GWS, GCS and NM and similar clubs. Carlton may be a rebuilding club, but we also get huge crowds to attend games when up and moving. Seeing some of the above teams play at home with dismal crowds, no wonder hawks pies * can snare so many decent players, without giving away too much. Must be our turn...

If we want a cheaper version of Jack Martin - we should approach Shai Bolton.

They play a similar sort of game in that neither of them are small crumbing forwards, rather they play as clever lead up HFFs that like to leap and fly for marks.

Shai would be happy at Richmond - but Ralph Carr can make anything happen.

Jack Martin has a bit of Harley Bennell written all over him, a supremely talented footballer who simply refuses to work hard enough. Steer clear IMO.
I am yet to see him really ave a great game, Never seen him play a game where he dominated to a level where i thought wow
Agree mate. Still mainly hype at this point. Should be consistently playing high level by now.

Only if cheap for me ( in picks and $)

He wont come cheap due to the hype and will need a top draft pick to move him from the sun's

I think Ralph Carr is good when he has a client thats a Gun player but wont be able to dominate proceedings with a player like Bolton who is out of contract this year and yet to really be a consistant player due to his fitness which has improved but still has a fair way to go. Will probably get offered a 2 year deal at around $200k but cant see him being offered alot more from another club to move and he seems to have a good bond with the other indigenous boys at the club.

We saw on the weekend the precise reason we should be targetting 1 of 2 players. Lachie Whitfield, or Josh Kelly. If we have the ball being delivered to our forwards like on the weekend consistently, we would be playing finals. We have a lot of very ordinary kicks in the side, whether that be because of age, youth, confidence or ability. Those two blokes are absolutely Elite inside 50 kicks, Whitfield could just about serve me my dinner with his deliveries by foot. We have ball winners for years to come with stocker, kennedy, dow and setterfield developing under cripps... we have tall forwards, we have defenders of all shapes and sizes... but we have 1 BLOKE who i genuinely trust to deliver the ball inside 50, Samo. Walsh will no doubt be one too, at his rate of development who knows when, could be next week with this bloke.

Whitfield is possibly the best kick in the comp at this stage, and Kelly has been hampered by injury, but his 2017 form will forever go down to show at his best he may just be the most damaging kick in the game. And even better, both are absolutely elite runners and can win the ball themselves.

Our best game in probably 3 years, just so happened to be the day that Samo had 35 touches delivering absolute gems all over the ground, and if we had 1 or 2 more of him consistently playing like he did on the weekend, we would be having 20 marks inside 50 a game. Walsh will no doubt end up being absolute class on the inside and out, but if we had 3 players that could deliver inside 50 and win their own ball, we would dominate.

We basically have the 2nd coming of Jesus in Cripps, sent to save this club from mediocrity. But when you have the best contested animal in the comp you need to surround him with blokes to dish it out to, he had 32 handballs on the weekend, and arguably tore the bulldogs a new one with 83 metres gained in 37 touches... If you surround him with elite users of the ball, theres no knowing how good we could be. Right now we don't have consistent users aside from Samo who doesn't find the ball enough at this stage, and Cripps ends up trying to improvise and break lines and deliver it himself, which is not viable when he's got 3 blokes hanging off him at stoppages. Someone like Kelly commands attention at a stoppage which relieves pressure on Cripps, and if he gets into space he destroys teams for fun. Whitfield is more of an outside player, but hes just stupidly good at kicking footballs. These two should be at the absolute top of every supporters list.

We also need a small frwd... but really we can go to the draft and pick up a young fella, they may not end up elite but we just need some pressure down there with some goal sense, also clubs like richmond and the saints have plenty laying around. Plenty of the best small forwards in the game came from well outside the first round of the draft and can help lock the ball in.
Hoping LOB eventually is the one on the end of Crippa's hard yards. I see the talent there.

Found the posts on Max Lynch really interesting reading this week caught up with a mate of mine who's a Pies supporter and mentioned what I'd read on this thread and what his opinion of him was, first he mentioned the big fella has a massive tank on him, he finished in the top 3/4 in their 2km time trial over the preseason behind Tom Phillips also mentioned his mobility and having great hands both in the ruck and around the ground, apparently club has a high opinion of him...

Can TDK become a full-time ruck? We need to plan for life after Kreuzer.

Yes.

He can also go forward and clunk them.

Going to be a ruck who averages 20 goals a year.

Could be a Sydney / Mumford deal where 1 team goes after another teams rookie ruckman

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/sydney-snag-cats-ruckman-in-trade-20091009-ge84wv.html

"Cats ruckman Shane Mumford agreed to join the Swans on Wednesday night, he told Geelong yesterday morning, Sydney offered the premiers their second-round draft pick, No. 28, and that was it. Done deal. "
Mumford played 18 games for the year including finals but not selected in the 2009 grand final Sydney offered 1.2 over four years and could have walked into preseason draft where Geelong would have got nothing for him...
Brodie Grundy Max Lynch are the only ruckman on the list Mason Cox more part time...

Papley would be a significant get. Absolutely significant.
Unlikely though, has significant history with swans. From memory both grandfathers were excellent players there including Max Papley. Not quite as hard as getting a silvagni out of carlton but not dissimilar.

Forgot about that.
From the games I’ve seen from Papley, he seems to be an improving midfielder who gets a lot clearances.
