Feel like we have a few guys that can rotate through that wing position atm. Would like to see Tom Berry come in as a pressure forward and Ah Chee used on the wing. Noah half back again. Sharp did well last week but I think him against someone like Nick Cox might be a mis match. Maybe Ah Chee has better physicality/ defensive experience at this stage of his career. I thought our ground level stuff in the forward line was off on the weekend. Charlie going up for too many marks and getting in the way of the talls. Need better roving off our forward contests. I think Berry can do that well. If Jarrod Berry and Zorko are in any way impaired by their knocks they shouldn’t be playing. No excuse for playing players injured/ banged up in round 2. We pretty much have a full list to pick from. Pick players that are 100% ready to go.

I don't see any hands out for the ball. It's a really weird position to take a mark. If he's actually been going for the ball it'd be less dangerous, because the contact would be spread out rather than concentrated from the point of contact. His original intention might be to have gone for the mark, but he changed his mind and ultimately he just took out Rowell.

I saw the incident live, I've watched replays during the telecast, and I've watched a replay after the game. I'm not going to do silly gatekeeping rewatches just because you think it somehow conclusively proves he should be getting off. But to me it boils down to his actual play on the ball - if Rioli had actually put himself in a position to try to mark the ball, instead of tucking in his arm, he wouldn't have a case to answer. Yes, it means he might be marginally more likely to get injured but nothing compared to the damage he could've done to Rowell.
It's unfathomable how Rioli got off.

I can see the rationale as to why they upheld Mitch's ( a rationale that didn't seem to apply to Rioli) but if his name was Dangerfield or Bontempelli there's no way Christian would've given him a week in the first place.

Tackle practice this week please boys.
A slight side-step and admittedly I don't watch many of their games, but I'm always impressed with how well our girls tackle in the AFLW.

Whoever is working with them is doing a great job. They always seem to have a really effective technique of locking the arm in the tackle resulting in a lot of HTBs.

My last comment on the Rioli incident

My big issue is players going back with the flight of the ball
They put everyone in danger. A speckie is completely different to going back with the flight

Bottom image
Ball kicked from bottom right where WCE player on ground.
Rowell clearly going back with the flight as head looking up.
Rioli coming in quickly from the right
Middle image
Rioli leaves ground hands out in front to take a standard chest mark
Top Image
Rioli slightly changes direction. Only he can answer why

Was it to protect Rowell, protect himself or to hurt Rowell

This all unfolded in 1 or 2 seconds. Look at where players are in bottom image to top image

Can you show me where the grassy knoll is………

Rising star nominee Nic Martin out for the Bombers - Covid protocols.

Would think there’s a reasonable chance others at the club might fall too then if he’s been in around them.

Enjoy it while it lasts, hey. Sooner or later at least one club will cop 5,10,15 players with it.

Wonder how many players played with a slight flu in the past.
They may played but it wasnt pretty. I know at least a couple of shock losses by best teams in the comp have come when they tried to play through a wave of cold/flu through the club

The Lions team as a whole just appear to be a much stronger outfit overall this year
This happens over a period of time and preseasons of the younger players coming into the club
We should be just too strong around the contest, forward and in defense

It will be hard to see Essendon returning to a top 8 team until they get a few players back
If Stringer returns that will help them. He was very good in the 2nd half of last year as a mid
However if he returns he may spend a lot of time forward. Essendon just had nobody forward last week that gave them a spark

Game at 4.35pm AEDT so wonder if the roof will be open or closed. No rain forecast

I've found it interesting that every player entering the protocol seems to come out totally fine and play straight away. I guess we don't know how many have had covid versus close contact.

For the season to be not too badly affected they (govts and afl) REALLY need to ditch the close contact rule. Close contacts could have a day or two in isolation and negative test then get back into it. Otherwise you'll have players knocked out as close contacts multiple times in the season.

Players are all vaccinated and that does reduce serious symptoms (in most).

Maybe we will see upsets the other way - late in the season players who sit out for a week come back peeved after sitting out, play their best ever game, collect Brownlow points and change the expected outcome to a win or a bigger margin.

We don't have any really good Thursday night melt downs any more but I have one.

No more Robbo stuff on a thread that is about Saturdays game.

Mods make another thread for this crap. I want to read who comes in for us this week, not about some West Coast bloke.

I ask everyone a question.

Who shouldn't replace Robbo?

Who, if he comes in, will annoy you?
