I don’t see Hartigan as a bad idea. He’s depth just like Campbell. We get him for free and give him a modest salary.

Not sure why people are melting over this. We’re also heavily into De Goey, so people can’t accuse us of having no ambition. And we’ll most likely take our first and second round picks to the draft and get Mackenzie if he’s still available.

I think you can find depth whilst also finding a player that isn't looking for a retirement plan and also has some upside with a chance to turn himself into an AFL quality defender in the coming years.

We should be targeting 21-25 year olds to fill these gaps, not 31 year old stop gaps.

We've been down that road with Frawley and McKernan before.

Nothing can be done past a verbal commitment for another month, everyone knows that. Rather than be bored it’s generally accepted that it’s amusing to treat everything as gospel and react accordingly. We’ve had some very funny times on here in the past with some very colourful characters, Jonny ray flamingo for example.

Why aren't we enquiring about Lewis Melican instead? Is contracted for 1 more year, but may want to leave. He's 26y.o, who shouldn't cost much.

ok. Believe what you like. As I said he indicated he wanted to go home. Port and Adelaide can't trade for him this year.

This means we have a full year to convince him to stay. if not we will see this time next year. lets hope he changes his mind and signs. I think he will be an absolute gun.

Much better than hartigan Imo but what did Tom play, 2 games. Great player at sandy, break glass in case of emergency. How many do you carry like Tom, is he the best option, is he helping or stifling Heath, anyway we carried a few this year and most have retired so we have a couple of spots we can fill. Personally I’m still hoping for better than hartigan whose best is below average.

One of our many medium sized defenders?

Oscar Adams?

Some guy from one of the State Leagues with no AFL experience?

Some kid from the under 18s who we’ve just drafted?

Someone such as Kyle Hartigan?

Kyle’s name would’ve sent shivers through my spine pre 2022 as I too would’ve seen him taking games off a developing younger player. However the recruiting of Tom Campbell, and in particular the manner in which the Saints used him, gives me some confidence that we can utilise such a player in a true ‘break glass in emergency’ situation.

If he is named it should be in place of Howard; not alongside Howard.

So as much as I’m a bit ‘meh’ about it; I’m not gonna get upset about such talk.

Chase Melican who at 25 might still have some up side then. Hartigan looks like he'll be another like James Frawley or McKernan who come for one last season before they have to retire. Phillips from the VFL looks much more likely to go somewhere in 5 years. We are not quite sure where we stand. If we miss finals again next year we'll have to prune hard and the guys that come for top up will be long gone. Might as well have a bet each way instead.

Melican's issue at Sydney is he wants to be playing seniors again.

We can't offer that to potential key backs given we currently have 3 good ones who are all at an age where they have a lot of football ahead of them.
