I'm not saying Rankine is worth a 3rd round pick or something stupid but his value, on evidence so far is not super strong

No it’s not. It’s irrelevant.
We aren’t considering his first two injury interrupted years when looking to trade for him. We are looking at what we projected him to be in his draft and what we saw on the field a number of times this year
Look at Rozee - start of this year people on this forum we’re starting to call him a “bust” for where he was drafted at. Unquestionably one of the exciting players in the comp going into next year.
Rankine a step behind Rozee at the moment but every expectation a full pre season and he is one of our very best players and a terrific pick up regardlesss of the price we pay

Absolutely spot on.
Its an interesting comparison between him and Rozee.
Rozee - Pick 5 2018. 59 games in first 3 seasons with a breakout year in his fourth year.
Rankine - Pick 3 2018. Have to completely disregard 2019 as he was injured all year. 48 games in his first 3 seasons able to play AFL footy.
Rankine will have been in the AFL system for 5 preseasons and will hit the magical 50 game mark in round 2 of 2023. Fingers crossed he has a similar breakout to Rozee for us in 2023.

While your statement is technically correct, it's a bit misleading. Dawson made the top 10 in 2019, followed by top 3 finishes in 2020 and 2021.
For what it's worth, I do think Rankine has as high a ceiling as any player being traded this off-season. But he's a riskier proposition compared with some of the more proven players on the trade table this year.
In a fair market, we should be giving up less than what is given up for Jackson, Dunkley and Taranto but probably slightly more than what is given up for Hopper (unless GWS can actually afford to keep him).
if they are offering pick 7 and bowes too anyone for whatever he is clearly cooked or his salary is 1m next year or something

I read that article. It was bizarre.
Suns willing to give pick 7 to someone to take Bowes off their hands. No talk of what that club would have to give up.
Oh and yeah they’re going to take a hardline stance and get pick 5 from us.
Even if we don’t get Bowes I expect we’ll be part of the Bowes deal if there’s even a shred of truth to this, and benefit from the Suns salary cap shed as well.

Yes the use of pick #7 makes no sense whatsoever as a salary dump ......makes more sense to use 1 or 2 of their 2nd round picks

We don't have to play him, we just have to pay him. He doesn't even need to come to training to earn his keep.
On no planet should GC trade pick 7 & a player as a salary cap dump. Giving the player away for essentially just the salary (ie a pick in the 60s+) should be fine. Pick 7 in the draft could be used to trade for an A-grade or experienced player, and fill a massive hole in their list.....Then again this is GC we are talking about - they gave away Pick 2, and were trying to give away Pick19 for free last year, oh and what was it, Pick 11 they essentially gave to Geelong for like Pick 27 the year before. They trade like bots from a Playstation game....
Sydney are stacked with quality players and that's why they are playing in the grand final. Gold coast are stacked with high end draft picks and not high end players. Rankine hasn't shown anything near what Dawson showed for at least 2-3 years with the swans. Dawson was a guaranteed star. While we hope Rankine will be a star we are buying on potential. GC are under salary cap constraints as well and need to pay a price for that.
So you are saying that this years premiers future 1st is about right for Rankine?
