Personally while he might be the better player he is also five years behind.
I just think Petty is ideal. Why we might overpay now he is no flight risk in the future. He is no superstar but gives us an option at either end of the ground for the next 7 to 8 years.
When you look at what clubs have to give up for average key defenders I don't think we are overpaying either, especially if we front load the contract.
Anyway, sounds like it won't happen this trade period. We have 12 months to reassess.

Harrison Petty is a “known”.. connor O’sullivan is a complete unknown. Could end up a gun player.. could end up being another McAsey. Could end up being a just above average 250 gamer. No one here.. including you.. can deny that cause no one here knows.
We are coming into a finals window.. we need “knowns” we can use now over “unknowns” that could become great in 3-5 years.
And, as you say yourself, he probably wont be there at 10 anyway.

Actually love this footage, sat within earshot (150 metres, nah really 20 metres) at Alberton one day with John coaching the not so mighty Panthers. You have never heard a more foul mouthed tirade of abuse and aggression coming from the coaches box than by JR.
Hard to think Justin doesn’t have more than a little mongrel in him with this pedigree. Just a more refined, certainly public, persona in our new era and considering he was a prominent Player Manager himself before being wooed to the Crows as List Manager. IMO, Justin is a strong asset for the club

I’m going to bet you didn’t see petty play at that age, I’m guessing mutineer did, not that it means his opinion is right but it probably means he’s more qualified than you or I.
Speaking purely about trading, the vibe I get from Justin is that he's a hard case that doesn't roll over. Huge improvement on his predecessor who didn't even understand the concept of leverage. Noble seemed to think trading was a chance to make friends at other clubs.

and my comment that he responded to was all based around Petty being more valuable to us next year than any player we possible get at pick 10.
If he wants to introduce the name of a draftee that probably wont even be there at pick 10 and hasnt proven a single thing at AFL level yet and try and argue that as some sort of reason not to use pick 10 for Petty..
then i’m gonna call him on that fragile as fxxk arguement.
