Preseason super goal. Gone. Andrew Mackie said good riddance.
Super Goal was never a rule change for any AFL season.
What they do with back-yard footy, little-league footy, super-rules footy, me and you playing footy in the park, doesn't count as a rule change.
Soccer has not changed the scoring system rules. A goal is still a goal if it goes over the goal line between the posts. That has been the rule for over 100 years. No change to getting half a goal if hitting the goal posts, 1/4 goal for the ball coming back into play, etc etc. A goal is a goal if the ball goes behind the goal-line between the posts. That is soccer.

In AFL, the scoring rules have not changed for over 100 years as well, in any season.

simple solution to get rid of goal reviews & the costly "cheap arse" camera set up at every ground ..if it hits the goal post and bounces through the big sticks, its a GOAL
It’s such a simple solution. Goal if if goes through the goals, point if it bounces back into play, point if it goes the other way. Same methodology with the point post . No technology needed ( except to determine if it was touched or perhaps when ball was above post height)

Disagree regarding behinds hitting the post being awarded a goal. Whilst the games score system does make score reviews a pain in the a***, it's also one of the things that makes Australian football unique.
I don’t see any special romanticism or Australian identity in that.

In a list of the 100 greatest things people love about this game, i don’t think “ the ball hitting the post is a point even though it went through the goals” would be on that list.

not sure i follow your logic

mine is:
  • clips the goal post on the way through but still goes through the goals, then 6 pts
  • hits the goal post and bounces back into play, no score, just play on
  • hits the behind post and bounces through the behinds, then 1 pt
  • hits the behind post (on the bounce) and bounces back into play, no score, play on
does away with the need for goal reviews and cameras and all that carry-on

simple game, better for the spectators etc

I like it.

Can't make the game simpler - AFL might have to sack half their staff.

Play on when it bounces back into play is a stupid concept though. It’s football, not pinball. It’s a point if it bounces into play. Or out of bounds in the case of the behind post.
how about the ball being 'punched ball back into play' by the boundary umps ..does that mean handball back in or they'd pinball it back in?

1904
Boundary umpires were used for the first time in all VFL matches. They punched ball back into play.

No, mate. My point he has changed his approach in the last 2 months. Forget the stats. I'm talking about what I've seen with my own two eyes. Instead of dropping to ground and looking for high contact as a first course of action, he is keeping his feet, staying in the contest and being more effective.

You can take or leave what I'm saying. I don't care. No need to be a smart-arse.

I posted the free kick stats for the hell of it - they do show a decline from his 2022 numbers when he was a senior regular and was paid 32 frees. Certainly not an increase in frees. The general perception from a few of you was that he was hard done by at Collingwood and now he's at Hawthorn, he's suddenly being looked after by umps. That's just not true.

I also posted his free kicks since Gather Round - just 4 free kicks from his next 6 games. Bugger all.
He was tackled high plenty of times in these games, which was ignored by umps.

He hasn't though. Most of the flailing had been removed by the second half of last year with him trying to get off handballs rather than putting himself out of contests when he was tackled - the flailing is making a return. You're just looking at him with different biases - as are we.

Let’s go all the way, if it goes through the goals, regardless of who touched it last or how they touched it, it’s a goal.🤭

I'm not even sure if the club was keen (I was) but it still haunts me that the Hawks traded up to take Weddle with their pick before we took Allan.

Hopefully in 5+ years I see that differently.

It was good of them to save you having to watch us pass on Weddle if he was there…

With the way Hawks are going and our injury luck this year we might've paid Hawks to take Ginnivan.
I never understood that trade, at the time I told my brother, “Hawthorn aren’t a bad side and anything can happen, we might be riddled with injury next year.”

Hopefully my accidental prophecy doesn’t come into fruition.

Our trades last year were all dumb. Or post premiership arrogance.

Giving away Ginni for nothing. Trading in an average-above average small forward in Schultz in an area we have an abundance of depth for our future first. And if the rationale was that a ready made Schultz would make a difference to our immediate premiership push, we should've kept our contracted VC Adams. Adams would actually be a difference maker in games for us especially now with our midfield decimated.
