Captains/leaders have been moved on before.

Ryan Griffen was traded as captain in a shock move to GWS - they won the flag 2 years later.

Deledio left Richmond - flag.

Buddy left hawthorn - flag.

GAJ left Geelong - flag.

We all want nothing more than Cripps to take us to 17, but 3 sacked coaches is 3 sacked coaches.

Wouldn’t have a clue on the ins and outs & his relationships with the coaches.

But the fact is, this would be a 3rd sacked coach under his captaincy. Has that ever happened before, at any club?

As a captain who has done his bit on field, improved his game, helped other players and been great to members and supporters I’m not sure what else he could do to support the coach. He and Weiters would be the only 2 on our list if they say the coach should be turfed I’d listen.

I'm not suggesting we put Cripps up for trade, that would never happen. However, if his leadership comes under scrutiny in a review, I could see him doing a Griffen.

Blame the board, head of football, etc on poor selections and decisions. At present it’s 2 coaches but a lot of players in an AFL system go through many coaches. How many coaches has Max Gawn been through (just because he wasn’t captain for all of their sackings) and they’ve won a premiership.

And then played one of the best midfielder games ever the next week against Brisbane with like 39 touches and 4 goals.

I'm not going to infer anything as I love Crippa and I don't think (or like to think) he wouldn't try to get rid of a coach by totally giving up on the field, but it was a curious time.

On Soapy's input a few pages ago, I have to say it would be so totally peak modern Carlton that the only thing we give Voss control over is... match tactics.

Plenty have blamed Voss for everythign on here either directly - or ( like you) by insinuation. I giuess it is better to adopt this approach than actually go through the list and see what teh palyers actually do week in week out against opposiiton - when they arent taking personal leave or perennially injured.

The only thing I really blame him for is not having them well drilled.

Eg. I asked one of the backmen a couple of years ago about having set plays for kick outs. We had one. The one where they clear out and get Cripps alone about near the middle.

That's it. It's why we basically always go to 70m near the boundary.

They should have half a dozen combinations locked and ready to go.

I mean you could have not had him as captain for the same period and I still think the coaches get sacked. I don’t think it’s directly related.

Dale Weightman was captain of Richmond in the 80s or much of it, prob had like 5 coaches sacked in his tenure, doubt it was him driving player mutiny.
